Very briefly, an image layer is like an individual embedded layer, while an embedded document is an entire embedded native Affinity format file, including all its layers.

Indeed he is, because since he is nearer to the camera than the wagon wheel, he should be proportionally larger to account for that. As it is, it looks like if he was moved back next to the fence, he would be about as tall as it is.
Also, he can't be from the same 'old West' era as the wagon wheel because he appears to be a model holding a machine pistol, dressed in high fashion leather duds.
Slightly more seriously, step 3 of the method suggested by @carl123 can also be done on the canvas -- set the rotation center to the bottom center of the shadow layer & move the pointer to just above the top center control handle so it changes to a double horizontal arrow shape & drag to skew (sheer) the image interactively.

I did one that I imagine is going to be "big but quick job" in Designer, oh boy, I was wrong.
All the fonts where big, really big (20 inch +), outlined. On screen look OK.
But then I exported all that out, PDF X3, EPS, SVG (cleaned background before export, so I don't have clipping, masking, etc.), font to curves. I try to open it (to check everything before cut) in Corel... it open the file, looks ok.
Turn on wireframe, and look it closely - and I'm screwed. Illustrator would not smell the file. Ok I try same thing in Flexi, and for some reason result is better, not perfect, but better. I remind you that font is 20 + inch, so small irregularities won't show - perfect.
Wrong again. It did not show on the screen, but in production sure did (I blame it on screen rendering in Flexi because it does not show smallest details). Lot of time and material vested, need to recreate everything in Corel.
But let's think just a little bit.
You have font that's already vector by itself, and it show perfectly on the screen. You can parse it directly to vector. Then you have outline/contour of the font, that is also already perfectly good curve, why you do not just parse it in place?
Also I have feeling that Designer have 2 different "mesh" system. One for standard stuff, like fonts and images, and other one for curves. When you try to translate from one to another they probably have rounding errors. IDK.
    Keep it stupid and simple.

My workaround is to use Inkscape's Path > Simplify tool. I copy the expanded stroke, paste into Inkscape, apply Simplify, copy and paste back into Designer. The clipboard copying behaves well (on Windows at least) and the result is normally fairly accurate. Of course if you've got a copy of Illustrator handy there's a more sophisticated simplify option available.

    Hallo,

Here's an amazing idea. Let's crowdfund Affinity Designer and Photo for Linux!
This is a huge "what if" scenario. What if Serif were interested in developing a linux version if they already knew that a sufficient amount of users would buy it? Then why not crowdfund it?.. If thousands of linux "nerds" who only use the computer for hacking and coding and never designing (irony intended) would pledge the needed amount, Serif could just wait until the goal is met and then start developing? If not, all backers can get their money back, nothing lost, nothing gained.
I'd be willing to pay and I'm sure others would too. If there aren't enough linux nerds, the goal won't be met, if there are, who needs graphs showing estimated numbers, we would have facts and money to back it up. Serif could even do it as a test without any promises. Backers can promise money if they decide to go for it but should they choose not to, no hard feelings. As long as they are clear with their intentions. I can say right now that I'd be willing to pay quite a bit more for a linux version than for the mac and windows version if that's what it takes.
If you think this is a good idea, please "heart" the post or quote it or whatever so that we can be noticed =)

Unix by definition is the family of OS derivative of the original ATT Bell labs, with OSx (iOS in turn) being considered the Unix with the largest install base, you can look into it if you like or believe it's not true I don't care. "Unix-like" (which really just means they didn't pay for Unix certification) systems like Linux are derivative of Unix (again responding like it,etc. But not directly using original Unix code), and in turn Android runs atop Linux.

Believe what you want, but that is what it is, that is part of what makes porting between them so relatively simple. I'm not much interested in simple "nope you're wrong" answers if I'm going tbh, so substantiate what you're saying besides just saying no because everything else seems to disagree with your statement.

Im sorry for the necro but this I had to comment on.

This statement is pretty well wrong, unless you use a Windows phone or the cheapest garbage phone possible you guaranteed have either the Linux kernel or a Unix kernel, thats just plain fact of the matter (iOS and Linux are Unix based systems)

Second, Linux/Unix flat dominates the web, it runs everything minus a hand full of people running maybe windows server which I'm not 100% sure Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc., Everything you've come to use every day, the servers that got you here, all likely run Linux (and the 3 listed actually do and contribute to it) . Being conservative 90% of the web you know is Unix/Linux, 10% is Microsoft/Other.

Linux isn't supported simply because of the slew of ignorance and misconception displayed throughout this thread permeates to the software industry that perpetuates these ideas. Linux isn't an unknown, it's everywhere, just not as much in homes. There isn't a reason it can't be supported, just most companies don't want to because of the idea "Linux is for nerds" and other such things expressed here. It's a mindset issue not a technical issue, period.

    Hey guys,

Just bought Affinity Photo and since there's no Opacity + Flow pressure sensitivity options, I've pulled a rabbit out of a hat and starting off with some tips from this thread I've made some brushes and thought of sharing them with the nice people on these forums. The last in the list I think are especially useful for paiting. Hope you'll like them.

Pariah73 reacted to RM10 in How to bend a logo? Help needed
Hi everyone. Thank you all for the suggestions.
Since the Logo was NAME+Symbol, i managed to rotate each piece and place it as good as possible along the line to create the bend effect.
It was for something very small so it didn't need to be perfect.
As I suspected, and as told here, the affinity designer doesn't have the tools (yet).

@Pariah73 I had some text to bend to, but that i managed because the tool exist, it was easy. the problem was really with the logo because it was totally in curves, and the name is not in a regular font. But thanks for the tips, i will try to use some of your suggestions in the future ;)
    Thanks everyone.

Assuming you're in Photopea, grab the text tool and type something out in whatever font you like, then access the warping options by clicking the button there and choosing your options  Make sure to export as svg to keep it vector. Then you can import that into AD or AP and use as you like. Hope this helps. If you need more info, let me know

Pariah73 reacted to Cristian Dragos in Select Document Palette by default when opening a project
    Hey guys,
One thing that keeps bugging me when I open a project that I'm working on is that the first thing I have to do is switch to the respective Document Palette from the Default Palette.
Wouldn't it make more sense for a document to remember this and just select the last Document Palette you used (in case you have more than one) when opening a .afdesign file?
Or at least give us an option in the Palette menu to set that Document Palette as default for that specific document. This would be nice as well.
    What do you think?
    Thanks in advance,

Pariah73 reacted to Mark Oehlschlager in Trouble with Spot Color Channel on Export
    Working with Publisher 1.7.0.227
I've placed a greyscale image in Publisher. I've used a Gradient Map filter to map two Pantone spot colors to the image (one spot for the dark tones, one spot for the light tones). I've also drawn two rectangles on the page and filled each with the respective spot colors used to recolor the greyscale image.
Having exported the document as a PDF with "Honor spot colors" selected, I get a PDF document where the colored image separates out onto the four standard process color plates (CMYK) rather than onto the expected spot color plates. The spot color filled rectangles do however separate correctly onto their respective spot color plates.
This appears to be an ongoing bug in Publisher.
Generally, I see nothing in the help files for any of the three Affinity apps (Photo, Designer, Publisher) that clearly explains how to apply spot colors in such a way that the colors will correctly separate out onto the correct spot color plates for offset printing. Please give special focus to spot color handling and control in the Affinity apps prior to releasing the official 1.7 versions.

Pariah73's advice is great for text but it only works for text, it doesn't work if you want to bend anything else such as curves, shapes or anything imported from other software.
Designer - currently, as of 1.7.0.209 - doesn't have any complex automatic distortion tools, such as shape-on-path, perspective or mesh warping, but I'm fairly sure that the Affinity team have said those types of thing are on the roadmap so maybe sometime in the future.
In the meantime, you could try using Inkscape to get the vectors into the shape you require and then import the modified vectors into your Designer project.
Inkscape is totally free and has some very sophisticated tools - the one I think you need is in the "Extensions -> Generate From Path -> Pattern Along Path" menu - but the learning-curve can be quite steep, so be prepared to practice and experiment.

Pariah73 got a reaction from Mithferion in Warped Text as Curves for Designer/Photo with PSE and Photopea
I don't have the funds for PSE so I decided to try the Photopea method. I did this instead of the .psd method.
After doing the Convert to Shape step, instead of saving as a PSD, go up to the top and click the SVG button. I can confirm it exports a vector file of the text and warp. Then import to AD. No the text is not editable in that form but you can always go back to Photopea and do it again -or- save it as the .psd if you think you might need to change it and wait until your art is finalized to convert to shape and download .svg
Thank you Mithferion for the idea! Now I no longer need Photoshop for anything!

Another option, Photopea, an online Image editor, and this one is for free.
First, create a new document and write your text:
Then, warp it the way you want it to be and create a copy of it.
Right click on any of the Texts, in the Layers Panel, and click on "Convert to Shape"
Save it as PSD to your Computer:
You can open the file in Photo/Designer... but here is the thing, you have the text Curves and Pixels. Right now, text in a PSD file generated by Photopea opens as a Bitmap object, but if you open it again in Photopea, it's still recognized as editable Text.
Hope this is of use for anyone.
    Best regards!
