Thank you, Stokerg and Toltec, I appreciate the info. I am not use to getting help from Britain but that is my misfortune. Already, I like this site.

If certain tools appears not to be doing anything, you may need to rasterise the layer or check that it says pixel not image on the layer type.

Roger C reacted to Alfred in PNG File Size Question
Dithering can be used to smooth out banding, but it doesn't smooth out (i.e. reduce) noise: on the contrary, it could be considered to add noise. What dithering actually does is use small dots side by side to simulate colours which are not included in a limited palette, and compression in the file is going to be relatively inefficient because of the swapping back and forth between different colour values. If you use PNG-24 you'll have a much bigger palette, but large areas of solid colour will be very efficiently compressed in the file.

I'm not sure I understand this correctly, but the OP's problem seems to be more about filling a layer with a texture. The best and also easiest way to achieve this would probably be to offer the texture as a clipping layer to the parent layer. How this is done is comprehensively explained in this help topic: https://affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/pages/LayerOperations/clipping.html

Thank you all for the feedback so far, we really enjoyed making Affinity Spotlight!

It has been answered further up this thread, but just to reiterate, this project was developed by the web/systems and content team and has in no way affected the development timelines for any of our software releases.

I will also let the web team know about the RSS feed requests, its definitely something we will talk about!

@retrograde Hey Kevin! In answer to your question, content will always be there on Spotlight and we will just keep adding to it. It will not be replaced by new stuff.

With the exception of QA staff checking this site for a few days there is no overlap at all in staff involved and these programming teams are 100% independent, as you suggest.

    @davemike
Not developing this site would have had ZERO impact on the release date of Publisher, though I appreciate why it may feel that way when you are patiently waiting. Sorry that you are giving up, but it is not ready yet, and it would not have been ready if there were no Affinity Spotlight website.

There is no ‘either/or’ here! Those who are working on Affinity Spotlight are not programmers, and there is no indication that development of Affinity Publisher has stalled.

It's been very clear for a long time that for most serious users of Adobe InDesign the first version of Affinity Publisher will not serve as an immediate replacement.

    Hi owenr,

Sure, using underlying composition ranges is also a way to go that will give you great control, especially of the transitions. However, I don't feel that the transition is much of an issue in many images. But I will consider to add using the underlying composition ranges in the blend options as a fourth and more advanced method in the video. Thanks for the input.

Turn your image Colour Format  into LAB( Document->Colour format->Lab) , select your image with the figure,
click on the Blendranges button/cog symbol, change from Master to Lightness and edit the Blend ranges  to decide on how the Source and underneath layers are going to affect each other on showing the marble.
Adding a Highpass can make the Colours stronger.
forgot to write; create a mask for the body.

You don't need to flatten it. Just save it with layers.

Make two new documents, one 4 x 6 and one 8 x 10. As Alfred says, keep it at 300 dpi (as shown below).

Go File > Place and position and size the placed document inside the page area. That does it all for you. Crops, sizes, everything.

I have just tried this with Nik Viveza, Nik Dfine, Topaz Adjust and a couple of other plugins. All showed the same behaviour: Crop then Filter shows the full image. Crop, Rasterize then Filter shows the cropped image. Rasterizing first also seems to prevent the Nik plugins showing peculiar colours.

    Hi gewoonm
Are you able to re-photograph your drawing and expose it so the paper appears white? i.e. increase the exposure by 1.5 to 2 stops?
This will obviously be a better place to start from if you want the final image to accurately reflect your drawing.

Right.  I started this thread to showcase features that are coming in 1.7.  This was no way an exhaustive list of everything that will go in, and I have said there is time to add more, so I fail to understand why us showing new (hopefully helpful) stuff has come across as the complete opposite.

It is a shame that some people have hijacked this thread for a diatribe about how we aren't doing what they want... and in their imaginary time frame.  1.7 is not coming just yet, and we have given no fixed time frame.

So, I am going to delete all posts on this thread that are not discussing the features that I am showcasing (in a helpful manner).  The intention was to show what we are doing and take helpful feedback before we even get to Beta, and so that you know we are already working towards the next updates.

Thank you 'firstdefence', much appreciated. And yes you're right, better taken and multiple images is going to save time, and frustration. Exposure Bracketing is my next port of call

I've figured it out, There is no history, I must have closed it down and wiped the history Doh! I'll try making a video later if I have some spare time sorry dudes.

    Basically I...
Selected a lot of the back wall, some of the side wall on the left and the ceiling I used the Haze removal tool to try and get that mist off the image I tried doing some haze removal locally with the curtain but that was a big fail  so... I selected the curtain on the right, refined the selection by adding some feather. Copied and then pasted the curtain selection. Flipped it Moved it so it overlaid the left hand curtain. Did some erasing around the edge near the door,  a bit of position tweaking and finally some colour adjustment to match the colour of the curtain underneath. That was the best I could do as I had to go out.

Ultimately these images need to be better taken and spending a bit more time taking multiple shots is big time saver over all. Taking a shot for the window and then for the interior would work quite well, also fill-in flash will also help. Better to slightly underexpose and bring the detail back

    Hi
I can't see the history either; though from the af.file, firstdefence's actions are clearly discernible.
But yes, Save History with Document is ticked in the file.

When you add layer effects to layer they are indicated in the layer panel with an "fx" icon next to the layer. However if you modify the blend ranges for a layer they are not indicated in any way, and the presence of the blend range setting is only visible if you know to open the blend options cog icon. With many layers this can become confusing. Please add a cog icon next to the layer in a similar fashion as the fx icon when the blend range options are not on the default setting to indicate their presence.
