Alex_M reacted to walt.farrell in Invert layer selection
For others, or in case you're still missing the context:
-
Alex_M got a reaction from NotMyFault in Affinity Photo 2.4.2 - Mask changes when converting document to 16-bit
Sure, see below.

With all the layers you want to keep selected, right-click one of the selected layers and select Lock
Select > Select All Layers will then just select the unlocked layers

Alex_M reacted to iconoclast in How do I invert layer selection in Affinity Photo?
I can't test it at the moment, because my PC is off, but if you have the layers selected, you want to keep, you should be able to group them and move the group to the top or bottom of the layers stack. After that, it should be easy to select the rest and delete it. After that you can ungroup the layers, if needed and wanted.

It is not possible to invert the selection of layers but you can use 'Select Same > Tag Colour'.
Select all objects via CTRL+A In the layers panel right click and assign a tag colour to all of them Then select just the few objects you want to keep and assign them in the layers panel a different tag colour Finally select one of the objects you want to delete (with the firstly assigned tag colour) and use menu 'Select Same > Tag Colour'. Then hit delete That should solve your task.

I may not have understood what you want correctly but if you have selected the objects you want to keep, you can copy them to the clipboard & use File > New from clipboard, you will get a new document with just those objects in it on a canvas just large enough to enclose them all. Then if desired/necessary you could resize the canvas & export that to a new PDF.

Alex_M reacted to walt.farrell in How do I invert layer selection in Affinity Photo?
I don't think there's any way to invert a selection of layers directly.
With a single page PDF, you could Hide all the objects you currently have selected by Hiding one of them in the Layers panel. Then Select > Select All Layers, which will select everything that's not Hidden. Then Delete. Then select all the layers using the Layers panel, and unHide one of them.

Hi @Alex_M,
I've reproduced the issue here and I'm logging it to be looked at. Thanks for reporting it.
I'm assuming it works fine for you with CL compute turned on? It works fine here.

Alex_M reacted to Ash in 2.5 new features and improvements list
Hi All,
Below is the list of all new feature and improvements which are included in the 2.5 beta (bug fix list is available here).
To learn more about these features please click on the link to go to each feature's dedicated post. To give feedback or report bugs against any of these features please reply to that same post (also check out bug reporting and feedback tips).
Variable Fonts Line Width Tool Pencil Tool Improvements QR Code Object "Default preset" for grid Typography Dialog turned into a Panel Other Improvements Getting the 2.5 beta
If you have not enrolled into the beta program yet and would like to take part, you can do so here. This will immediately give you access to the latest 2.5 beta builds to try for yourself.
If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
1. If you still have the 2.4 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.4 beta.
2. If you have uninstalled the 2.4 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.5 beta from there.
Thanks,
Ash

Alex_M reacted to Ash in Other Improvements
There are a few other minor improvements to mention in 2.5:
1. Some new cameras have been added to LibRAW:
FujiFilm X100VI Leica SL3 Pentax KF (Rioch) Samsung Galaxy S23+ Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Sony ILCE-9M3 (A9 III) [improved] 2. As was requested in a few places before and on the last beta, when you have "Transform objects separately" checked and have a multi-selection, if you type a value in either the width or height field and precede it with an equals sign (e.g. H: '=100px') then it will set all objects in that selection to have that specific width or height value entered. This is opposed to scaling the other objects in your selection proportionally based on the key object which is he result you get without the equals sign.
3. DWG polylines import improvements
We have made some substantial improvements when importing polylines, which now ignores the cached points which AutoCAD creates. This simplifies the resulting curves substantially.

Alex_M reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Photo - A document made entirely of linked images is still over 120mb?
The file format is not designed to be small it is designed with fast drawing in mind and image previews of all files are saved. "Linked" in an affinity file mostly means "watch out for possible changes" so the internally saved previews (at a number of sizes/zoom levels) are still there in the saved file, just not the original source file. Without those previews it couldn't draw quickly as you change zoom level.
Perhaps we could offer a slower loading smaller sized "save minimal" that always regenerates the previews of a linked file on each load but that's not what we have currently, sorry.

Alex_M got a reaction from Paul Mudditt in Where can I find the official webpage that leads to the previous versions of the apps?
Thanks! @walt.farrell is correct. Previous versions don't appear in the downloads section of the account. It would probably be smart and convenient to have them in there too?

Alex_M reacted to Dan C in Photo often crashes when picking colors with ALT+LMB
Thanks for your report @Alex_M!
I'm not seeing the same crashing here, and I have been testing this function throughout multiple files today.
You can find crash reports generated on your machine by following the below FAQ -
All of my testing will be completed in the latest available update (2.4.2) and we always recommend updating to the latest version.
If you update to this version, does the crashing behaviour continue please?

Alex_M reacted to GRH in Canva
First red flag I saw was 'To our amazing Affinity community,'
The second was 'I am thrilled to announce that ... ".
Which usually means 'We have been made an offer we can't refuse.'
A quick google brings "Canva has made its largest acquisition to date, likely spending more than $1 billion to buy professional design software company Serif to compete directly with Adobe as its prepares a long run at going public."
https://www.afr.com/technology/canva-s-billion-dollar-bet-on-a-37-year-old-nottingham-company-20240321-p5fea0
I'd certainly be thrilled to announce that (jingle jingle).
From the FAQ's ' Canva’s business model is subscription, are there any plans to change how Affinity is sold?'
Answer: 'There are no changes to our current pricing model planned at this time, ... ', which likely means, after 'this time', uhmmm (whispers) 'yes.'
Affinity marks Canva’s latest Europe-based acquisition, joining Flourish (2022), Kaleido (2021), Smartmockups (2021), Pexels (2019) and Pixabay (2019). Canva opened their first European HQ in 2023, based in London.
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20240325965656/en/Canva-Acquires-Design-Platform-Affinity-to-Bring-Professional-Design-Tools-to-Every-Organization
Oh well, good bye and thanks for all the fish, it was great while it lasted.
-
Alex_M reacted to Sam Neil in Canva
I must say this was a shock but not a good one - Canva also bought SMARTMOCKUPS.COM which was amazing and now they are shutting it down - I do hope this is not the case with Affinity.
Canva have the cash and resources and do make the final decision which is a shame. All this companies say at the beginning no no we will be independent but in reality that will not be the case.

Alex_M reacted to Lee D in Holding down shift whilst cropping in the Unconstrained mode constrains the current aspect ratio
@RahoraI've passed this over to the developers.
-
Alex_M reacted to Rahora in Holding down shift whilst cropping in the Unconstrained mode constrains the current aspect ratio
I'm sure your sample doesn't have the same ratio at the start and end either. When you have the crop set to the smallest, it's more like 16:9 or 2:1. Try cropping to an even smaller rectangle, that's when the inaccuracy is most visible.
-
Alex_M reacted to Ldina in Holding down shift whilst cropping in the Unconstrained mode constrains the current aspect ratio
Same here. Holding Shift while Crop is set to "Unconstrained" does not maintain aspect ratio as it did in a few previous versions. I also noticed that the hints in the task bar (or whatever it's called at the bottom of the screen) do not show that as a 'hint'. Perhaps they changed this recently. To maintain the aspect ratio, I have to select "Original Ratio" for the Mode. I'd like to see holding Shift maintain the aspect ratio, like it was before.
I'm on a Mac using Ventura.
