I'm working in AD 1.6. As before, I can chose the option I want in the Swatches pane under Appearance and the change remains. However, when I click "Fill" or "Stroke" in the Context Toolbar, the default is "Color" and there does not appear to be a way to change that. Thus, if I want "Swatches" in the Context Toolbar (in "Fill" or "Stroke"),  I must each time go through the same process. It would really be nice to change this default to "Swatches" or some other option and have it remain so when I go there again, and when I bring up the doc again.

I use Vuescan. In windows, if you set Photo as the default program to open tiffs, then when you save from Vuescan, it will automatically open in Photo. Hardly any difference from an integral scan facility in Photo. You do need to be aware that Vuescan will have saved the tiff somewhere and deal with this.

When I develop the css of a website, I like copy / paste the hex code of a color. When I like a color, I copy it hex code for use in the new creations. Show hex code of the color and allow to copy it with 1 click, could be perfect.
What do you think of that ?

    Hi Dik Salsbury,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
We do have plans to offer a DAM solution later but it will not be available any time soon. Currently we are focused on fixing any remaining issues of the 1.6 release, Affinity Publisher and Affinity Designer for iPad. Please check our FAQ for more info.

I'd help if you'd provide an example image that shows what you want to achieve. If you mean something like this, it's a bit easier in Photoshop because there is no Stroke Path feature in Affinity Photo, so you'd have to trace the text with a brush by hand. Apart from that, you can basically achieve a very similar look by experimenting with the brush dynamics. My quick attempts weren't quite as convincing as the ones in the video (mainly because the available brushes are different in AP), but I'm pretty confident it can be done with some more effort. In Affinity Designer, you could just apply a vector brush to the text path, but I don't know of any good vector brushes to create that fireworks look. The raster brushes were, again just from what I could do on the quick, more promising in this regard. Sorry I can't be more specific here.

There are a couple of applications that will do it.

Faststone image viewer (free for non-commercial use)  and  Irfanview (free)

I use Faststone which is a very good viewer and you can set it to load the scanned images directly into Photo.

So, scan the image, press Ctrl + E and they are in Photo.. In reality, you will probably want to scan a bunch of photos, view them and edit them one by one, so it works better than scanning them into Photo one by one. You can even carry out basic edits in Faststone.

    Hi Peter,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Thanks for your words and support. Affinity Publisher is still under development. We were a little optimistic regarding its release date and due to some adjustments to our plans (Photo and Designer for iPad), Light UI interface and other non-planned additions to Photo and Designer it end up delayed a little more. There's still no eta but it's progressing well. We will announce it here in the forums and on social media as soon as the Beta becomes available.

Congrats on the update, It is awesome.
The question I have though is what about Affinity Publisher last time I saw anything about it, that it was going to be available for Beta towards the end of 2017... well we are just about there and yet no news.
Is it still going to be for beta in 2017 or has it been pushed back?

You guys have made some awesome software, now we just need an Adobe In-Design killer from Affinity to round out the pack... except for maybe an Affinity D.A.M though :) that would just be awesome.

    Hi Retrograde,

This is a known issue with switching the UI on Mavericks and has been logged with Development. Not all of the UI is being changed over when you switch UI, however restarting the app will force it, which is why it will have resolved itself.

What do you mean by "fill tool"?  There is no tool. Just select the transparent area and use the menu, Edit > Inpaint.

Did you select the transparent area before trying to impaint ? I used the Magic Wand but there are other methods. Inpaint will be greyed out if you don't select the area.

At least for me, this works without the rasterize step, but only if the canvas has been extended only vertically below the image (as in the video) or if it has been extended only to the right.

IOW, if I set the resize canvas anchor point to the top center one & change only the canvas height, or set the anchor point to the left middle one & change only the canvas width, then Edit > Inpaint or Edit > Fill > Inpaint fills the empty area without the transparent fade or the need for the rasterize step. Enlarging the canvas in any other way requires the rasterize step to avoid the transparent fade.

If anybody else can confirm this, I think it means there is a bug in the Edit menu inpainting function.

It is possible in designer but I will use Photo for this demo
Open the two images (preferably the same size)
Place one on top the other
Layer > New Fill Layer  (colour not important)
Add full length Horizontal gradient to the Fill Layer
Drag Fill Layer to use as a mask on the top image
(Gradient tool should still be selected, but if not reselect it to see the gradient on the mask layer)
Select left-hand node of gradient and set Opacity to zero
Drag (separately) both left-hand and right-hand nodes of gradient towards centre of image, keep adjusting, until you get the blend effect you want. (You can also move the nodes up & down to affect the results)
You can readjust the gradient at anytime just by selecting the mask layer and selecting the gradient tool

Note: The blending results of 2 images depends a lot on how similar (or dissimilar) the images are.  But you can always play with the Brightness/Contrast, HSL, Noise levels etc on each image to try to get them to blend better ( or find different images  )

    Where do I get support?
The best place for asking questions, reporting bugs and requesting features is right here on our forum – this is where we all hang out:

     · Questions
     · Report a Bug on Mac, Report a bug on Windows and Report a Bug on iPad.
     · Make a feature suggestion

    What are the system requirements?
OS X Mavericks (10.9) or above for Mac and Windows 7 (SP1) and above for MS Windows – but you can see the full spec for Affinity Designer here and for Affinity Photo here

Is it available to buy for Windows?
Affinity Designer for Windows is available to here, and Affinity Photo for Windows is available to buy here and both are also on the Windows Store here. We support 64-bit editions of Windows 7 (SP1), 8.1, and 10.
If you have bought any Affinity apps for the MacOS or Windows or iPad and want to run on one of the other platforms also, you will need to purchase additional licenses for those other platforms.

    Are there trial versions available?
Yes, there are free 10-day trials for Mac and Windows available on our site, with Affinity Photo at affinity.serif.com/photo/trial and Affinity Designer at affinity.serif.com/designer/trial.

I've used my trial, can I have another?
No, unfortunately not. The trials need to be secure to prevent abuse, so even though your wish is for an honest evaluation we cannot circumvent the trial checking built in to the app. If you installed a trial of Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer before, you can only use a future trial when it is updated to reflect new features (1.6, 1.7, 1.8 etc). The customer beta versions of Affinity apps do not offer an additional trial period and only work for paid customers.

What is Affinity Photo Plugin support like?
We are currently working with some plug-in manufacturers to make their plug-ins fully compatible with Affinity Photo. We will keep you updated on our progress. We would also love to know which plug-ins you would like to see made compatible with Affinity Photo.

Do you plan to have Web site design/Digital Asset Management/animation/video editing products too?
We’re not sure yet! but we are very interested in adding a DAM solution to the Affinity suite in future.

Do you produce apps for iPad?
Affinity Photo for iPad is available from the iOS App Store here.
Affinity Designer for iPad is available from the iOS App Store here.

Do you have any tutorials or handbook available?
We have the Designer Workbook available to purchase here and the Photo Workbook here. We also have a comprehensive set of video tutorials, you can find our growing collection here . Due to high design and production costs each Workbook is only available in English and in German, with no plans for otther languages.

Are Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher available in any languages other than English?
    Yes, each apps already includes
English (US and UK), German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Japanese, Russian,
and Chinese (Simplified). Language is chosen for you automatically and you can also change it in Preferences > General.

How does the pricing work in different countries?
We set the price in USD for sale within the USA, and from there the price shown in other countries and currencies is set by Apple based on a matrix they use. We have no control over that matrix or any updates Apple may make to it in the future. Our Affinity Store matches these prices for Windows to make the sale price the same.

Are Affinity Windows apps available to buy outside of the Affinity Store?
Yes, Affinity Designer for Windows and Affinity Photo for Windows are available on the Serif Affinity Store and also the Windows Store.
Are Affinity Mac apps available to buy outside of the Mac App Store?
Yes, Affinity Designer for Mac and Affinity Photo for Mac are available on the Serif Affinity Store and also the Mac App Store.

This also applies to educational and other volume license sales — Serif operate volume purchase programs for organisations to reduce costs and simplify distribution and management, which you can find our more about for business here and for education here.

Is there anywhere I can download a cheat sheet showing the shortcuts for Affinity apps?
Yes there is! You can download a full list of default shortcuts for the Affinity apps in this Affinity Spotlight article  (where you will find printable PDFs and also the Affinity Designer source files for English and German keyboards in case you want to include your own customized shortcuts).

Can I use the Affinity logo and name for my website/channel/product/service?
We really appreciate and encourage activities that support Affinity software so we're pretty fair about trademark usage, but naturally there are limitations. We want Affinity users to be confident about what content is created by Affinity and what is created by third parties, our guidelines in this short PDF (English only) make things quite clear.

If you've been using Designer or Photo for a while you will probably have switched off the Welcome Screen.
Start Affinity Photo, go Help - Welcome and the popup will show.  The big panel on the left is a 3 part slider - either wait or use the button on the side to go to the 3rd panel which has a button that takes you to the Affinity Site.  If you haven't done so, you'll need to create an account (also for Designer downloads), but it's there that you'll find the free downloads.  All packages come with an instruction PDF of how to install/use them and I believe even with video examples.

For Designer the process is similar, but the link to the free goodies is on the SECOND pane instead of the third.

If you've been using Affinity from v1.5 you'll find that you already have the Photo macros pack and the Designer grade-ui-kit - not sure if there has been any update to them since 1.5.

    So there
