John Rostron got a reaction from Smee Again in Took a break to play with the $99 camera
Nice. What was the $99 camera?
The last pic looks like a Dig Violet Viola.

John Rostron got a reaction from Alfred in File extension taking over
It is probably due to how individual programs install themselves. Many programs appropriate the file type names for all the file types that it can open.
You need to change the way Explorer displays file extensions. Try this page for a how-to.

John Rostron reacted to R C-R in Affinity will fail - Harald Heim
Without the links from @John Rostron & @Fred C I would not have gotten anywhere with that, so the credit should go to them.

John Rostron reacted to R C-R in Affinity will fail - Harald Heim
"Overtaking" Adobe is not necessary for Affinity to avoid failing, so I will put about as much faith in this "will fail" prediction as I would in reading tea leaves.

John Rostron reacted to R C-R in Focus merging instructions
It is not necessary for the files you want to merge to be in your Pictures folder, or even all in the same folder. Just follow the procedure @John Rostronmentioned in this post above. In step 2 you can navigate to any folder on your computer that you have read access to, in the same way you can when opening a single file.

John Rostron got a reaction from MRphotography in Focus merge and HDR merge at the same time
I suggest you get a depth of field calculator. These are several apps available that will do this for you.

John Rostron got a reaction from MRphotography in Focus merge and HDR merge at the same time
I was going to say HDR first, Focus Merge second. However I think that it will really depend on your subject matter.
I would suggest that you try it both ways and report back here. I'm sure that many members would be interested to see your results.

John Rostron reacted to IanSG in Focus merge and HDR merge at the same time
9 different focal points sounds too many. I'd start by finding how small an aperture you can use without seeing diffraction effects and then do some hyperfocal distance calculations to see how many exposures you need. My guess would be only 2 or 3.

John Rostron reacted to firstdefence in Focus merging instructions
You need to add images to the stack by clicking on the Add button, then go look for the images in the window that opens, once you have the images in the focus stack window the OK button will be active.

John Rostron reacted to qendl in Duplicate new layer behind instead of in front? (In both Photo and Designer)
I do a lot of stuff using power duplicate on semi-transparent layers to make repeated outlines appearing to move back into or forward out of the image. Sometimes it would just be much easier if I could duplicate behind.

My PC specs are not all that different from yours and I have no difficulty in running any of the Affinity apps (including the betas).

John Rostron got a reaction from RPbySC in photo catalog
By "LR photos" are you referring to the LR catalog? Or do you mean your original image files? Your original image files will still be there plus sidecar files whilch LR (or ACR) will have used in translating raw files into other image formats (such as tiff). AP will not be able to utilize the sidecar at present. When I ditched LR I was able to use the 'developed' files (tiff, jpg etc) and to read my raw files without any LR adjustments. None of my files were lost, just the sidecar edits.
If you mean the LR catalog, there is no way that AP can utilize this.

It's always good to learn new languages.
Mind you, what do I know, I'm English. They just teach us to speak louder if people don't understand us

John Rostron got a reaction from gumbo23 in How to cut and move objects within PNG?
Or you could use the clone tool to copy the background over the old signature.
I suspect that the reason you did not get a solution earlier was that the respondents assumed that your signature was on a separate layer from your drawing. This is why they asked to see the Layers Panel.

John Rostron reacted to Raymondo in Filter Forge 8. Almost, but not quite there yet
Hi john
Just to say FF8 works fine in Photo1.7 beta on Mac so I’m assuming it’s a Windows thing.
