I know what you mean. And you are right with it.
But, the advantage of how lightroom or ACR is working with series of big RAW files is to put them into a xml like database or let us call it catalogue.
Not for sorting files, but for a fast as possible editing of a series of photos. You don't need to load and edit each photo separately (Of course you can...) if you want to edit a series of photos.
In AP photo persona the macro function is currently not useful for that kind of work. Neither the stack and batch job function.
And the preset function in the raw/develop persona is not working as it should be right now.
Maybe booth in near future... thats the reason for such a thread (in my opinion)  :)

    Hey guys!

I'll be posting some of my photo-manipulation works in this thread. To get started I'll share this poster I made for a local electronic band. Hope you dig! I'll be uploading all my AP works to my FX Monkey project Twitter account too: @fxmonkey2

As always any comment is welcome!

Simple Question: Is it possible to add global presets for all adjustments in RAW Persona?

I know that you can add presets for each step (Basic, Lens, Details...) but is it possible to make a global preset?
I cannot find this option anywhere.

Hofnaar reacted to James Ritson in Have Shadows and highlight in Develop affect exposure
Hey, thanks for the suggestion - you are correct, the shadows and highlights adjustments tend to compress tones rather than boost/recover them.

In the meantime, if you're interested I can suggest a couple of alternative approaches:

    1) Use the Shadows / Highlights filter rather than the adjustment (in the Photo persona). See the Shadows/Highlights video for more info:

    2) Remove the default tone curve and bring the highlights slider all the way to the left - this will recover a huge amount of highlight detail and allow you to craft your own tone curve. There's a video called Custom Tone Curve that covers this:

    Hope that helps!

Noticed this morning that my fuji raf files from my xt2 are not loading with fuji in camera lens correction - is this something that could be addressed or has it been reviewed already?  I understand fuji apply lens corrections in camera...

Got the shock of my life looking at my out of camera .raf files compared to out of camera .jpegs!!!

    Hi Hofnaar,
Currently you can only save presets for each section individually. I'm moving this thread to the Feature Requests section.

    Squeaky wheel here...

Busenitz, I don't see this as a feature, I see this as a one of the basic cornerstones of a vector app's toolset... especially one that is as cutting edge, innovative and industry leading as Designer is.

...would really love to see some of these core and fundamental aspects nailed before adding "x" features and/or export/compatibility functions/workflow/you name it, etc... It's these "little" things that you do hundreds of times over the course of a piece that need to be solid. They're not sexy, they're not buzz worthy, they don't make for compelling video teasers but they are absolutely essential!  :-)

If some of the core structure needs addressing or rewriting as suggested above, in order to make some of this possible, I would think sooner rather than later is the easier course to follow. No?

Still waiting for offset / contour, so the Expand Stroke is an unhappy work around, when it's ok.   Still a great fan of the software - just wish this feature was higher on the list!!!

Hofnaar reacted to MrFlexo in [AD] Features request
    Hello all,
I would like to write a list of features that make Affinity Designer can be called application for professionals. I know that probably some forum users get angry with my words but please read my explanation. Currently this Adobe Illustrator is the standard application for professionals. With its help you can design a poster, large format advertising or packaging. You can also prepare a project READY FOR PRINTING. Sorry but AD currently does not have many features that allow you to easily design the packaging or a poster and  prepare the project for printing.

Below I will try to list all the functions which according to me is missing:

    Missing designing functions:
    - Selectable units (pixels, millimeters, inches)
    - Possibility of dimensioning graphic elements (elements in the project, visible after saving)
    - Tracing raster graphic
    - "Offset path" function
    - "Gradient mesh" function
    - "Aling to selected object" function
    - AI-style transformation/scale tool
    - AI-style zooming tool (by selecting area and zooming, not photoshop-style zooming)
    - Selecting by attributes function
    - Locking/unlocking selected objects
    - Creating a pattern function
    - Creating a package of files (linked photos, used fonts + creating report one specified folder)
    - Barcode generator

    Missing "preparing for print" functions:
    - Fist and MOST IMPORTAINT - Separation preview
    - object "Overprint" atributes

Without most of these functions AD has no chance to become a serious application that can be an alternative to the market leader.
No matter whether someone likes it or not but it's B2B determines what is standard in the market and what is not. Currently, the standard is Adobe Illustrator. There are several reasons. According to me, except that it offers a lot of interesting features, it is open to the external plug-in developers. We have a great design supporting plug-ins  from astute graphics, we have a great plug for preparation for printing and 3D visualization (from ESKO). They are extremely expensive but for the leaders of the market price is not such a problem. The opening up to third-party plugins creators seems to me to be one of the keys to existence as an alternative to Adobe Illustrator. Create your plug-in market oper to the third-part creators. Make money from a percentage of the profits (like Android Market, Apple Store).

Serif - please! Be a real alternative to Adobe. I am writing this as the holder of APh and AD (even though I do not need it - but I bought them to support you)

Hofnaar reacted to R C-R in Are you sure.
DxO Optics Pro is a fine application, but it lacks most of the features of AP's other Personas. That's why it asks if you are sure you want to close the RAW file without developing it -- since most users want to do more than just develop the file if they open it in AP, they most likely would complain about it being a poor design choice if the file simply closed without warning. It is more or less the same kind of 'are you sure' warning most apps provide if you try to close a new document without saving it.

Besides, since you are aware of what a RAW file is, it is easy enough just to not open one in AP unless you do want to develop it with the app, right?

May Im the only one who need this in RAW editing for my fuji x-series and canon pictures, but is it on the roadmap for the near future? I can't find any thread about it :)
attached is an example of how adobe did this in lightroom

I wan't to be able to insert a new layer below the current active layer by holding some key down while clicking on the new layer icon and some other shortcut for the same as Shift+Command+N does. Inserting a layer above and afterwards dragging it in place below is annoying.

Most apps that can import AI can also import PDF.  If it doesn't work directly, renaming the file extension to .pdf may be enough to make it work. It can also be worth trying EPS.

Perhaps a related issue with AD on Mac: currently, it's only possible to drag/drop files from Finder to currently active document.
it would be nice, if an image dragged from Finder would activate desired document by hovering over its tab, so it can be placed inside of any open document.

    Thanks for considering ;)

Hofnaar reacted to Dave Harris in How to select text that's "outside" the text box handles area?
We considered hiding it, like most apps do, but then thought, why? Having text that's there but you can't see it, just causes problems (for example, with things like Find&Replace and spell-checking). Leaving it on the page may look strange, but you can see what's happening and what to do about it. Often there's no need to do anything. If it looks OK on the drawing, it is OK.

This is a bit of a departure, so we'll review it if we get a lot of negative feedback. It's not supposed to be harder to select, so I'll look into that next week. Other than that, do you see it as causing you difficulties?

Is it possible to remember last choice or set a default setting.
Feel this would add to ease of use!
