AiDon got a reaction from nezumi in Please NO MORE NEW FEATURES!
It is quite amazing that so many people are complaining about the product(s) from Affinity. My only gripe is that there is duplicated functionality between Photo, Designer and Publisher. As a previous long-time user of Photoshop, I find the approach to processing images refreshing. And yes, there will always be issues as products are updated but there are processes to improve functionality and solve bugs.
It seems strange that some of the comments here seem to be aimed at a photoshop product rather than an alternative to product that doesn't meet the needs of a changing world. I believe that Photoshop is struggling and the only innovative products are coming from companies other than Adobe.
All in all, I am satisfied with the progress of Affinity products and I am hoping that we will see more innovation as well as bug fixes. And any product requires workarounds to fit individual processing requirements.

Try turning hardware acceleration off to see if that helps.

AiDon got a reaction from Bound by Beans in Affinity Photo freezing entire PC
Obviously there are very complex processing environment when you combine CPU, OpenCL and GPU processing. As an after thought have you tried running SFC/scannow in a Terminal window with administrator access. That may give you some idea if there are any issues with your system.
Mostly I assume that people have already

TBH, Norton is simply bloatware like any othe AV software you have to pay for. I'm not a Microsoft fanboy, but the MIcrosoft Defender coming with Windows does an excellent job. He is as good (or bad) as any other commercial AV software. To justify the price other vendors are asking for their AV software, they add tools, which are simply snakeoil and sometimes even dangerous.
I never got a false positive with Microsoft Defender, but tons of false postive and useless warnings with Norton and other commercial AV software.
Based on my experience in the IT security business, for private use cancel your subscription for your AV software, save the money for something usefull and use the Microsoft Defender.
Back to your issue: turn off Norton and check if it makes a difference

AiDon reacted to RolandF in Affinity Photo 2 completely crashing my pc
Currently on the latest Studio driver, as I was all through the 2.6 beta period as well (with no crashes). After the crashes started, and users were posting about it being an NVidia issue, I tried the Game-Ready drivers, which made no difference, so I switched back to Studio again.

If this is Affinity's first implementation of an AI module, I applaude the devs. I like it. Kudos!

I have no way of knowing whether you're right that there's no technical reason, nor do I know how much it would cost the company to make it work properly on an Intel if it is possible. Nor is it my role to speak for Affinity, let alone apologize for them.
What I do know is that this is how it's always been with digital tools. With rare exceptions you know going in that you're only going to use them as long as you can.
And I sympathize. I wish I could still use the 2009 Mac Pro 5,1 I replaced three years ago. It still had plenty of power, but some developers stopped supporting it. Not all developers, just some - including Apple, and I wasn't interested in hacking this and that to run newer macOS versions.
You have an 8-year-old computer. If this is the only thing you can't do with it, that seems pretty good to me. Again, until about 20 years ago I had to replace Macs every couple of years to be able to run the latest music software. (You should see my computer graveyard aka garage - I think the Mac Plus I have in there still works.)
The other thing is that the M machines are the biggest jump I've noticed with any computer upgrade ever. I'm not talking about benchmark specs, how quiet they are, or how much less power they use - I'm talking about how fast everything happens throughout the day.
When you finally are forced to do it, after the kicking and screaming you're going to be very happy.

AiDon got a reaction from alessandra in Machine Learning: Object Selection Tool
Hi,
Although this isn't a particularly difficult subject of a woman sitting in a rowboat, the Object Selection tool won't allow me to add the woman's legs either below or above the railing - does not even recognize them as a object to add but will let me select the dark areas below the leg. Even using Refine doesn't help ... note that the Subject Selection tool also fails in the same way. 100% view added below.

AiDon reacted to Komatös in Windows 11 24H2 - Upgrade concensus
I recommend updating graphics cards and system drivers after upgrading to 24H2 if you have not already done so.

AiDon reacted to Komatös in Affinity Photo is incorrigibly, maddeningly buggy
I would say that is the nature of a crash. It comes without warning, and of course unexpectedly.
It's always easier to look for bugs in others rather than in yourself.
Crashes are usually caused by outdated drivers, operating systems that are not kept up to date or, in rare cases, defective hardware.

AiDon reacted to PaulEC in File type is incorrect in Windows File Explorer
This isn't a "bug", the file type has just become associated with the wrong app. (probably because you opened an afphoto file with ADesigner at some point.)
Just right click on the file (or on any afphoto file), go to "Open with...", then click on "Choose another app", select "Affinity Photo 2", then click "Always".

AiDon reacted to Callum in Opening any photo - not responding.
Hi BudgetEagle,
I have just tested this here and I'm not running into any issues I'm afraid. It might be worth reinstalling the latest driver just to rule out any issues.
Thanks

AiDon reacted to Mitalis in Launching Affinity Photo 2.5.5 w/ Qualcomm laptop gets blank warning message
I'm running the latest 2.5.6 version. I uninstalled the .exe and reinstalled the MSIX version. I'm getting the same blank error box upon launching the app. I checked the Windows Event Viewer (Windows Logs -> Application) and I'm not seeing any warnings or errors displaying in the logs.

AiDon reacted to Meliora spero in 2.6 or 2.5.6 beta when?
What you describe applies to this forum as a whole. There are very few professional or knowledgeable users, but the forum is otherwise packed with posts from users who apparently have found the meaning of life in commenting on everything here, rather than creating graphics and publications. I have more often seen these people demonstrate their lack of knowledge about using software and software development than the opposite. And there is something particularly curious about the obsessive craving for non-stop releases.
It gives me a very clear idea of who Serif's customers and potential customers are, and it’s a segment that Adobe and Corel comfortably leave to small companies, who survive on small fish, with a great deal of risk. I also think Canva is well aware that they need to collect small coins from many small customers, not bills from big ones. They’re not going to compete with Adobe. They’re just casting their line wider than Serif.
Who out there, with the slightest bit of knowledge, couldn’t assume that this time there might be technical, cultural, procedural, team-related, integration-based, customer database-related, and many other activities happening in preparation for the next release? It just shows that Serif's customer base is so dominated by hobbyists, and what deadlines are they up against? We’re not standing outside a hotdog stand at a train station with growling stomachs, trying to catch a train. There is no rush.
If Affinity needs to be significantly refactored – and it must be for anyone to even dream of gaining larger market shares – then you're going to have to wait longer. And it's surreal to have to tell, presumably, grown adults that these are the conditions. But well, now you know why I'll be migrating away from Affinity and this forum soon. Unless Canva throws an amount equivalent to the U.S. military budget and a significant (!!!) number of specialists into the Affinity plan – and I would wait for the results of that – the core algorithms in Affinity are decades behind the competition.
So wait patiently. But don't expect much. The only basis for hope you have so far is hot air from the standard business playbook to keep customer attrition in check. The foundation for hoping for a breakthrough couldn't be smaller.

AiDon got a reaction from PaulEC in 2.6 or 2.5.6 beta when?
It seems many people beta testing have a lot of time on their hands to post "opinions" on how to manage the rollout of updates and fixes so it seems not much time is spent using the products or testing the beta's. 😁
