passpartu0815 Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Hi all, I am recently experiencing massive issues with Affinity Photo v2. When doing certain actions, the computer freezes completely - screens remain unchanged, music stops, ... I am only able to move the mouse but not able to click anything. I have to hard reset the computer. This usually happens 10min after starting to use Affinity at the latest. So it's barely usable. However, there is no crash report by affinity, nor does EventViewer show anything. I am experiencing said issue while working with grayscale images (png and bmp) and had the freeze happen upon one of the following actions (but not everytime. I am not yet able to reliably reproduce the bug. It just happens sometimes) Open export dialogue (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S) Change the colour space of the document to RGB Drag+Drop new picture into currently opened document What I have tried: Reinstall/Repair Affinity Photo Use both EXE and MSIX installers Deactivate GPU rendering My hardware: RTX 2070S (latest drivers) i7 9700K Thanks MZH 1 Quote
Noreen Thorn Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Hi not replying with an answer but to say I am currently experiencing similar issues, its been happening since 27th January. I'm using Windows 11 and have had my PC checked for any errors The only way to come out is to turn off at mains and lose all previous work. Very frustrating Thanks, hope you can help Quote
Quote
Staff DWright Posted January 31 Staff Posted January 31 Hi @passpartu0815 and @Noreen Thorn, Can you please check the RAM Usage limit setting in the Performance section of the Affinity Photo Settings is not set to more than the physical RAM amount installed on your PC as this can cause Photo to be allocated all of the available RAM and cause Windows to become non responsive while it tries to free up memory. I normally set this limit to half that of the installed RAM on the PC. Quote

I have same freezing issue with large files, I have set limit to half that of the installed RAM on the PC RAM Usage limit setting in the Performance section of the Affinity Photo. Ticking of hardware acceleration helps. Using Windows 11, RAM 32gb, Intel i7 14700K, NVidia RTX 3060 with 12 gb ram. Quote

I merged 3 dng raw-pictures to hdr 32 bit image, made some adjustments and tried to merge all layers, AP and computer freezes and I could not convert format to 16 nor 8 bit document. I don't have that kind of large file, I had to reset computer. Without hardware acceleration there is no problem, only very high cpu usage. Quote
mopperle Posted February 3 Posted February 3 OK, so one of the many problems with 24H2. Did you check whether there are any Windows updates pending and did you install the latstest driver for your graphic card? Quote Regards, Otto Affinity Suite v2.5.x - Windows 11 Pro

I installed the latest driver for graphic card and latest cumulative update for Win 11, no freezing any more. I hope it stays this way 🙂 Thank you for your kind help! Quote
e-hahn Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Meld dich mal nach ein paar Tagen wieder, da das Problem mit dem Einfrieren nicht immer gleich kommt, dauert manchmal etwas ... Quote
I had work sessions with PC freezing any damn time I tried to export files. Very very very frustrating. I had been experiencing these issues in the last 2/3 weeks; never had this kind of issue before. Please help, AP2 is becoming pretty unusable. Edited Sunday at 02:28 PM by Marco_S_78 Quote
