Try first making sure that the "SEARCH THE WOODS" text layer is not selected when you use the File > Place menu item to open the Texture.jpg file.
I don't know why the workbook does not make this clear but if the text layer is selected the file will be greyed out.

Hello gr8rck,
after converting to a text shape
with the texttool selected dubble click inside the shape, now you can paste your text inside the shape.

I also have FastStonesimageviewer and Windows Photo Editor 10, both of which allow for the deletion of a photograph. Perhaps it will be worth the while to work on the problem. the same here reverse curvers gives me the same result as in your file, but when i reverse curves and do a horizontal flip it works like it should again.
