abra100pro got a reaction from DGee in Golden ratio tool
I wished there was a golden ratio element here which I could lay over my layouts to quickly arrange it for the better – would be a huge help for me.
Best with a curve (colour should be choosable) and the rectangles. Should be an object like triangle,... too.
Same in Apub
Sample image: Text and image are greyed out a bit – it is all about the rectangles and the curve.

Thanks, Walt. While I appreciate your feedback I must say, that it bothers me quite a lot. "Why make your customer's lifes difficult?" I would like to ask Serif. It is really obvious that Publisher, which has the data merge feature should be able to do that (like Designer, which hasn't bullet lists and text wrap - c'mon, Serif, really?) - I feel uncomfortable opening the final exported PDF in another app for this procedure - another source of errors.
I mean, these apps cost around two lunches, depending on the country you live in - keeping the apps different for the sake of "buy them all to do all" really isn't something that needs to be forced at the cost of easy and speed of workflow, IMHO.
I'm looking for creative freedom and everything that stands in the way costs me by far more over time than the (luckily so low) prices of the apps.
But maybe Serif hasn't just implemented it yet and works on it and many more improvements to surprise us all.

But posting a workaround does help other users to solve at least some of the issues they are having due to lack of a feature. Posting workarounds is not just for those who started a thread or who reply to it, but also for "lurkers" who simply search the forums for solutions, and when they find them, they apply them without ever posting here. That's why these forums are public.
Agreed, that's a non-argument.
This, on the other hand, is a valid argument. Serif has split features between the apps for several reasons, not just marketing but also from usability point. Of course, they could be selling just one "eierlegende Wollmilchsau" because technically, at the backend, the document format and the three apps are just one format and one app. But they have wisely chosen not to. A few days ago I have posted a slightly more detailed explanation on the same topic in another thread which was then confirmed by a forum moderator. (feel free to search for it in my post stream)

abra100pro reacted to Kal in Has V2 fixed Affinity's biggest issues?
Sigh. I thought it would be obvious that this wasn’t a new ‘feature request’. It was a one-off review off the first major upgrade to Affinity‘s ‘pro’ apps, pulling together a bunch of missing features that I happen to think are most important.
Yes, these features have been requested more than once already, over many years. (I’ve linked to some of those discussions). That’s kind of the point—they were things we might have expected to be in V2, and their omission is a signal to me that Affinity’s software designers don’t rate the importance of these things highly.
If this isn’t the place for an overall review and discussion of V2 and its most glaring missing features, how about being a little constructive and telling me where the right place is? I did look at all the options, and the ‘Feedback for the Affinity V2 suite of products’ certainly seemed like the best fit.

I really think it does not help the product, when folks in here state, that the input xy is not valid because
there is a workaround there is no need for this feature this feature is in another app (of the suite) It slows down the development because of people getting tired of suggesting things. If there is a poll everyone is welcome to state a "nah!" but when there is the need for something for people to take their time and post it here, there must be a reason to look at it.
If this sounds harsh, please forgive me, I'm not naive english and do not intend to offend anyone.
Have a great day, ye all.

@walt.farrell Affinity Suite is about producting professional content. And professional needs can be exporting single pdf pages on a wide document. Even if its rare, this is a really important feature that should be there when we need, event it's one time out of 100 projects. I can't understand how this feature is still far away and moreover that you say this is not a need for a lot of users, because there is more than 10 forum post on the subject...

abra100pro reacted to Dan C in Drag and drop a bunch of elements onto assets-panel ends in chaos
Hi @abra100pro,
Thanks for the screen recording provided!
I agree that one of, or both, of the above options would certainly help here - but currently this is expected behaviour when dragging a multi-selection into the Assets Studio.
Therefore I'm moving this thread to the Feedback section of the Forums, for our devs to see and consider this for a future update

abra100pro got a reaction from stokerg in Linked PSD hast probs with masks and shadows
I've uploaded it, name: planets.psd. The topmost layer is a merge of the others below, because this works in AD. But if you make the others below visible and the topmost hidden (or delete it) AD has probs.

abra100pro got a reaction from Old Bruce in Struggeling with exporting area (AD)
I found out this:
With the artboard looking like this:
I selected this frame with no colour for border or fill and chose "Selection area" – this allowed me to export exactly everything that is within the selected form in a rectangle (of course, when the form would be a star the result would still be a rectangle):
When I select the red rounded rectangle with a border the results look like this:
Selection area:
Selection only (with transparent corners outside the border):
This is very helpful. Serif: If you find this sample valuable enough you could add this to the documentation. It'd really help to have the idea.

abra100pro reacted to VisionsMind in Workarounds for Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort?
Looking for the same basic feature. Yet another wall with Affinity software.
I know they're a "small" company, etc, etc... But, lets be real: Inkscape is FOSS, meaning it's made by a community of volunteers and you can do whatever with it. It's far from perfect, but I find myself installing it from time to time to compensate for what Designer lacks. Same with APhoto, for that Krita is also FOSS, same exact situation.
I mean, Affinity products are good overall, but they're lacking quite a bit and it's not like these tools involve super high-tech complex 3D functionality to take them all these years to implement. There's far more complex stuff being released for free with higher frequency of updates, done by volunteers.
But I digress, the more time I spend with these proprietary tools, the more I wish I had spent time with the FOSS alternatives, which are free to use...
I hope Affinity has some more success (?) so that they can hire more devs to help them improve these things at a faster rate.

abra100pro reacted to Soather in Affinity Designer Hyphenation Problem
Your answer is clear and thank you for the quick respond.
However I do not understand why the option of hyphenation is visible in Designer.
I mean, what is the purpose of it?

abra100pro got a reaction from Incoming Fax in Affinity Designer Hyphenation Problem
Hi Walt, thanks for making this clear. I must say that Affinity does not lack to bring tears to my eyes - often out of delightment but also quite often out of sheer disbelief. This hyphenation behaviour is wrong in so many ways, UX, usability of features, setup.... Don't you agree?
BTW: I lack to understand the reason for Publisher to have several hyphenation settings in chars and paragraph panels - You can switch it on in chars panel and nothing happens until you switch on "Use auto hyphenation" in the paragraph panel. That is UX wise just not intuitive. Sometimes Affinity thinks around 5 corners.
Select the text - choose hyphenation (language is cool here, but I definitely should be able to set it document-wide, too) and *boom* - it would work.

abra100pro reacted to Nazario in Golden Ratio Template
Here is a golden ratio template I use as a starting point for all my projects. Ive converted this to Affinity for you guys. It's a template file so double clicking will create a new document and leave the template untouched. Use it to build graphics with a little extra 'can't put my finger on it magic'.
My 'Nz' avatar is angled at a specific angle to attract the eye for example.

abra100pro got a reaction from Alfred in Incorrect dimensions at export
That's exactly it - the export should not be affected by the position of the artboard in any way. This is the only remedy for this bug. I really couldn't care less about the position of artboards on the canvas - Why would anyone, other than for the personal satisfaction of "hey, mom, look how aligned they are!"
-
abra100pro reacted to Alfred in Incorrect dimensions at export
Since exporting to a raster format means you can only export whole pixels, it doesn’t matter whether the output is intended for web use or not. The dimensions of an object exported at 100% scaling should always precisely match the dimensions of the object in the document, regardless of the position of the object relative to the canvas or the artboard, and regardless of the position of the artboard.
-
abra100pro got a reaction from Alfred in Incorrect dimensions at export
We're talking about the size of the export, not the x/y of the canvas. The y/x are (for instance) 1080px x 1920px no matter what is set in the prefs.
-
abra100pro got a reaction from Alfred in Incorrect dimensions at export
Thank you, @Alfred! This is absolutely right.
-
abra100pro reacted to Alfred in Incorrect dimensions at export
We really shouldn’t need to do all of that! As long as the pixel dimensions of an object are whole numbers, it should be irrelevant whether the object is itself aligned to the pixel grid or is placed on an artboard which is aligned to the pixel grid.
