Linked PSD hast probs with masks and shadows

I've uploaded it, name: planets.psd. The topmost layer is a merge of the others below, because this works in AD. But if you make the others below visible and the topmost hidden (or delete it) AD has probs.

Do you also get a warning about an unsupported gradient fill when opening the file?  I suspect that will be the cause of the issue.  There are a few gradient styles that Affinity doesn't support so will struggle to display them exactly.

Odd, as when i open the file i get the attached error.  Which version of MacOS and which version of Designer are you using and finally, how are you opening the file?
