vonBusing got a reaction from Pauls in Locked Assets pane [1.8.0.499]
Hi Pauls,
As far as I remember, I have not met the same problem again, neither in betas nor released versions since that actual version.
Thanks,

vonBusing reacted to A_B_C in Music PDF (Sibelius/Finale) import to Publisher font changing
So here’s a little description of the process. I suppose you downloaded the installer for your version of macOS from Richard Koch’s page:
https://pages.uoregon.edu/koch/
Please note that there are different versions. Since I am still using macOS Sierra with my older Macbook Pro, I downloaded Ghostscript 9.27, but you may need a different installer, depending on your system.
Download the package, double click it and run the installer. After having successfully installed the package, you can open the Terminal app from the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder, and do the following, for a first test. Copy this line and paste it after the $ prompt:
gs -dNoOutputFonts -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -o Then add a space character and drag your PDF document onto the Terminal window. By doing so, you will set the path and the name of the output file that will be created. Of course, you don’t want to overwrite your original file, so use the arrow keys to go to the filename, add some suffix like “-Vector,” and use the arrow keys again to go to the end of the line. (Alternatively, you can type in the path and the filename, but this is a little more tedious.) Then add another space character and drag your PDF file onto the Terminal window a second time. This way, you will set the path of the input file. Then press Return, and your file will be created.
(Don’t be confused by the blue patches in my video. You will find your own account name there.)
Hope that helps … 😀

vonBusing reacted to AdamW in Affinity Publisher Customer Beta - 1.8.3.627 (Release Candidate)
I usually delay enabling auto-update for around 24 hours after the initial download is announced just in case there are any issues that appear to be affecting a lot of customers. Auto-update for this build is enabled now.

vonBusing reacted to Andy Somerfield in Affinity Photo Customer Beta (1.8.3.178 - RC2)
Status: Release Candidate
Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
Mac App Store: Not submitted
Download ZIP: Download
Auto-update: Available
Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the second release candidate of Affinity Photo 1.8.3 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.2 version recently released to all customers (though it installs parallel to the release, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
Affinity Photo Team
We are moving to release candidate stage early for 1.8.3, due to the discovery of a bug which prevents auto save from working in most circumstances. This bug can cause significant loss of work for users and is classed as extremely high priority. Once 1.8.3 is released, we will be back with 1.8.4 betas relatively quickly.
Changes This Build
- Fixed rendering issue with small radius filter effects.
- PDF export fixes.
- New document from clipboard improvements.
- Defringe filter improvements.
- Boolean op tweaks from Designer.
- Assorted small crash fixes.
- Assorted small performance improvements.
Changes Since 1.8.2
- Fix for autosave not working on anything but new documents.
- Fixed cropped result when creating a selection from a mask.
- Fix issues with live filters making layers disappear.
- Fix embedded documents not rendering at specific zoom levels.
- Try to import PSDs with non-standard vector origination data.
- Small terminology fixes (Exif -> Metadata).
- Fixed sporadic crashes with procedural texture UI.
- Silenced PSD import warnings which don’t affect the import result.
- Fixed develop steppers for noise reduction.
- Assorted other small fixes.
To be notified about all future macOS beta updates, please follow this notification thread
To be notified when this Photo update comes out of beta and is fully released to all Affinity Photo on macOS customers, please follow this thread

vonBusing got a reaction from MisterM2020 in Default area setting on pdf export
Please, please, please: let Publisher remember the last used Area setting in the export dialogue. The default is set to "All spreads", but I _never_ use that. I want "All pages". I do not know how many times I have to re-export my file because that setting is stuck on spreads by default, independently of all other export settings that are remembered very nicely. This is _so_ annoying...
-
vonBusing reacted to lepr in white showing as black
White is working correctly.
Applying a fill colour to an Image object will result in the colour's hue and saturation (the H and S of the HSL representation of the colour) and the Image's luminosity (the L of the HSL representation of each pixel).
Both white and black have no saturation, therefore the same greyscale image results when either white or black (or any grey) is applied as the fill colour.

vonBusing reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Publisher for macOS - 1.8.1 (was 1.8.0)
<EDITED> Please note, Affinity Publisher 1.8.2 for Mac is now live so this thread is locked </EDITED>
We are pleased to announce a major update for the macOS release of Affinity Publisher, version 1.8.1
Changes in this build
The changes in Affinity Publisher for macOS 1.8.1 (made since the last release Affinity Publisher on macOS 1.7.3) are as follows:
New Features & Improvements:
Template support – save documents as template files to re-use time and time again, share templates across all apps and even access files on multiple devices through cloud storage. New document dialog – it’s now simpler than ever to find, create and manage document presets with customised, saveable presets and thumbnail previews. Unified toolbar – thanks to the integration of window controls and the app’s main toolbar, Mac users (Mojave and above) can now enjoy more usable document space. Updated PANTONE© library – work with a seemingly endless range of colours, including updated PANTONE© Color Bridge and PANTONE© Formula Guide solid palettes (coated and uncoated). IDML import – import InDesign® IDML files, including all text styles, master pages, guides, pinned objects and more, directly into Affinity Publisher. Live preflight checking – customise the app’s all new Preflight panel to receive live warnings for possible errors in your document, including poor image resolution, bleed hazards, overflowing text, spelling errors, missing images or font resources, and more. XLSX import – import spreadsheet data from Excel, Apple Numbers or LibreOffice in XLSX format as a standalone table or inline with your text frames. Document merge – merge multiple documents together into a single file and take advantage of text style mapping, index merging and master page control, whether you’re combining whole documents or selecting page ranges to import. Smart master pages – effortlessly swap master pages and migrate edited content from any page to a new master page layout in a single click without losing any of your work in the process. Collect resources – organise all image resources into a single folder location and share with others in your network. New Anchors panel – easily manage anchors in your document and create new ones from selected text. Apple keyboard shortcuts for text editing —use Apple default keyboard shortcuts for text editing and entry for an even more streamlined workflow Text column dividing lines – add lines to separate columns in text frame settings. Many other improvements. Fixes

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About).
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac App Store purchases and needs a product key).
NOTE: This was originally released as 1.8.0 on the Affinity Store and the Mac App Store. Affinity Photo 1.8.0 on the Mac App Store had a permission missing that caused a problem with plugins and Affinity Designer on the Mac App Store had a single file missing causing lots of issues. Those build have been replaced with an otherwise identical 1.8.1 builds. Affinity Publisher did not have these problems, but it has been rebuilt to keep numbering systems in sync with the Mac App Store for StudioLink reasons.

vonBusing reacted to thomaso in Vector Crop Tool > increases layer transparency
v531. The crop tool improvement mentioned in the update list for v531 reminded me to the opacity issue with the crop tool. Unfortunately it still occurs:
A crop tool layer seems to double a transparency value assigned to its content. Regardless whether vector shape or pixel image. See in this video the black rectangle, set to 50% opacity, gets lighter as soon the crop tool starts masking:
crop tool opacity.m4v
It might confuse even more that the unwanted effect does *not* appear in an exported PDF (print preset): v531 crop tool opacity.pdf
... but is visible in a JPG :
All files (afpub + exports) of this sample use same cmyk space/profile.

vonBusing reacted to MEB in 1.7.0.7 - Placing Asset by double-click: inconsistent proportions
Hi vonBusing,
This is fixed in the upcoming Affinity Designer Customer Beta 1.8. It will also honour the ration when you click and drag. Thanks for your report.

vonBusing reacted to Gabe in Optimisation for 16" MacBook Pro
Hi all,
This does not seem to be related to the specs, but more to the display resolution and the "Retina rendering" option selected. When you have a high-resolution display and the "Retina Rendering" option is set to "Automatic", it has got this ghosting effect. I have passed this on to our developers.

vonBusing reacted to walt.farrell in copy between documents changes colours (b523)
Following on to my immediately prior post: If you have two documents of the same color mode (e.g., CMYK/8) but differing color spaces, and you need to copy objects between them keeping the same numerical values for their colors, the following works (only tested in Designer, only tested for CMYK/8):
If copying from document 1 (source) to document 2 (target) and they have different profiles, and you must keep the exact color numbers from document 1,
Make a copy of document 1 for safety. In document 1, if in Designer, use File > Document Setup. In the Color tab, Assign document 2's color profile.
Or in Photo, use Document > Assign ICC Profile and specify document 2's color profile. Copy your objects. The on-screen appearance of their color will change, but the color numeric values will be kept. -
vonBusing reacted to MEB in [Implemented] Data merge
Hi petrpastor,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
We do take community feedback seriously but it doesn't mean we can fulfil all requests as soon/fast as people would like - even in two years. Affinity Publisher is on its infancy. There's still various areas that need some work (integration with the other two apps, file presets/templates, linked/embedded file management, PDF import/export improvements, preflight etc (besides bugs to fix) until we can add more features. As explained several times we have limited resources compared to other known companies and are also developing a design/vector application and RAW developer/photo editing app at the same time for three different platforms alongside with Publisher, not Publisher alone. All this requires time. I think the teams have achieved quite a lot considering some years ago there was nothing at all. Please bear with us.

vonBusing reacted to walt.farrell in Publisher Beta 1.8 The suggestion is for the Resource Manager.
Yes, it would be good to have that in the Resource Manager.
Until then, when you Open the document after the files are moved, and you get the prompt, choose Yes rather than choosing Resource Manager. Then when you get the File Explorer (Windows) or Finder window (Mac) you can locate the file it asks for, and all others that are in the same folder will also be located automatically.
-
vonBusing reacted to radek108 in Publisher Beta 1.8 The suggestion is for the Resource Manager.
A function would be useful, thanks to which you can specify a new folder with all source files. In a situation when the whole folder is moved to a different place.
This can be done just like on the attached file ... Now you need to update each file individually - in InDesign, automatic file update happens.

vonBusing got a reaction from fde101 in Column Rules with Gradients
By default the Gradient tool on a text box is activated for the text itself. You can adjust the text box background gradient by changing the context in the gradient tool's contextual toolbar:
Just switch "Text" to "Frame" as above.
But these are the only two available options. Serif would need to add a "Rules" context to make it work on the column rules as well.

vonBusing got a reaction from thomaso in too easely broken path to linked resources
Hi @Jon P,
I have now tested, as you suggested, to create a new document from the iMac, connected to the laptop via Thunderbold, on the laptop drive. I also included images as linked from the Laptop drive. That worked normally without any access authorisation prompt. Closing and opening that document again does not trigger any warnings, unless I had, in between, opened the file on the laptop, done some changes, and saved again. Then I get this (as with my original working document):
:
From that dialogue, if I select "Resource Manager" I get the list with all resources with status "Access denied". From here, I have to relink each resource individually, even if they are all in the same folder. If, instead, I select "Yes" in the dialogue above, then I am prompted to relink one of the resources, and nothing more. If I open the Resource Manager now, all the resource links appears as OK. Not sure why we have this difference here, but currently, the "Resource Manager" button in that dialogue is more a kind of trap than of any help.
Also the action to "locate" a resource is slightly ambiguous. From this dialogue "locate" is to find the source file on your drive, while "locate" in the Resource Manager is to find where the file is used in the document, only. In the Resource Manager, one may want to do both.
Both iMac and MBP are running macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and HFS+ file system.
Thanks,
/Miro

What if the question to this answer would ask for a common language such as: XML?
At least for Affinity files, this idea sounds promising, for example in terms of .afpub file sizes and e.g. the way previews are stored.

vonBusing reacted to JGD in Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.8.0.499
On that same note, Affinity apps should, now that they have unified toolbars, adhere to Apple's latest standard for full-screen apps.
This is the Finder, and the behaviour I'm hinting at:
Finder.mov And this is iTunes, an old and, indeed, soon to be retired app:
iTunes.mov And this is Affinity Publisher, which, as you can see, is not using the latest UI/UX standards, even though the very first version was presented when sliding unified toolbars in fullscreen mode were already a thing (also, if you notice, there's a visual bug in the titlebar gradient):
Publisher.mov The advantage of using a model akin to that of the Finder should be obvious and self-explanatory, but I'll point it out anyway; even in fullscreen mode, users can make use of Fitt's Law and throw their mouse pointer at the screen edge and still be able to click any of the toolbar's buttons. Conversely, with iTunes' outdated model, Fitt's Law can only be used deliberately for accessing menu items and will, in fact, become a hindrance when trying to hit those small button targets, which are now closer to a trigger point that will obscure them.
This is a big usability no-no and while we could give it a pass in iTunes, whose button controls are basically huge and duplicated in our very keyboards, in Affinity apps, not so much. Those are tiny and even closer to the edge than they were before.

Hi,
We are pleased to announce that a new Customer Beta of Affinity Publisher (1.8.0.499) is now available as a download from the link above.
As this is a 'Stability and General Testing' beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity where you may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents.
We hope you enjoy the beta, and as always, if you've got any problems installing or running up, please don't hesitate to post in this thread.
Any problems actually using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum.
Many thanks for your continued feedback.

vonBusing reacted to Patrick Connor in Update size (split)
macOS Updates from the Affinity Store builds are (small) binary updates when possible. Updates from the Mac App Store are often the whole download again. Windows updates from the Affinity store are not yet incremental, but that is something we are still working on. Consequently they are always full downloads. Updates through the Microsoft store are always incremental if possible, but that process is not something Serif have any control over.

(Mac) Fix for crash printing CMYK documents with Embedded RGB documents. (Mac) PDF Export: Allow advanced features checkbox was missing. General
Fix for masked adjustment groups drawing incorrectly. Fixed odd behaviour with transform panel adjusting size of sheared objects. (Win) Fix for failures when installed to folder with a non-ANSI path. Fixed failure to import .ABR brushes. Fixes for stability issues that have been logged with us. Plus Translation and Help updates. This thread is for commenting on this announcement. There.... I will probably get another warning point.... but reading post like yours.... I'd rather be thrown out of the forum than saying nothing.
