You can back up the keyboard shortcuts by going into Affinity Designer>Preferences>Keyboard Shortcuts, here you will see a 'Save' option, just click that and then use the 'Load' option when you want to import them back in. 

As for Brushes, when you have the brushes tab selected you should see an icon with 4 lines to the right, that will allow you to import/export brushes

And Styles, it might be worth taking a look at this thread :)

Using the paint brush select Protect Alpha from the context toolbar. When checked, you are not able to paint on the current layer's transparent regions.

You could right click the object with the gradient applied and select 'Create Style' and then apply the style to other objects :)

Glad to hear you're getting along well with the app! I have provided some information below taken from the inbuilt help in Affinity Designer which may help answer your question.

Masks
 
A layer mask is used to reveal a portion of a layer while the rest of the layer remains hidden. This means that you can use a mask layer to 'delete' areas of a layer that you don't want.

Layers
 
You can think of layers as being like sheets of paper that are stacked one on top of the other. Transparent areas of the layer reveal the layer below, while opaque parts of a layer obscure the layers below. Objects that make up a specific part of your design would normally be placed on the same layer.

Thanks for your post, sorry to hear you're having trouble getting the latest build working.  Could you please provide me with a copy of you AppData folder, to access this please follow the steps below.
1. Hold the Windows key + R
2. Type %appdata%
3. Navigate to Affinity>Publisher
4. Make a copy of the 1.0 (beta) folder, zip it up and attach it here.

Yes, I am using the latest beta. Try with the light interface, and you will see what the problem is. Pressing Tab does not highlight the next field for input.

I have been bit by that not-a-bug bug so many times. The layers studio has become my friend for finding these problems.

Thanks for your report, this has been fixed in the latest build. (1.7.0.257)

There must be something else going on here.
I tested with Kis Antiqua Pro, Rhythmus Pro, and Bookmania.
Had no problems with old style figures with any of them.
Perhaps you could make a short video to show the Affinity guys what is happening.

Windows 10 Home 1809, Publisher 1.7.0.249.
When I drag the double-arrow tag at the bottom-left or top-right of a table (I don't know the proper name and can't find it in the Help) it doesn't always produce a new column or row.
See the attached GIF where dragging from the tab the first time usually creates a new row/column but after that it only starts to create rows/columns once I've dragged to two row/column heights/widths.
Not a major issue, just thought I'd mention it.

Uncheck the layer marked "FreeVector-Tank-Front-View" and then export. See what happens.

It is impossible to place a locked file in Publisher. There are two results what happens if you try.
Result 1: Place the file directly -> Nothing happens
Result 2: Make a picture frame and place the file -> Publisher instantly crashes
I think Publisher tries to convert the file to editable content and fails with the above results.
