Huh, you're right. Restarted and it's there now. Thanks. Odd, as I've been using it for several days now, and started the app fresh this morning. I did try to search the forum before posting, but obviously not very well!

somnolentsurfer reacted to James Ritson in Exporting 32-bit HDR/EDR to JPG for web
Hi @chillywilly, as you've discovered, JPEG is a bounded format and so your HDR values above 1 will be clamped. We are waiting for some kind of standardisation of HDR image formats on both Windows and macOS before implementing a suitable export format. At the moment, the only formats you can really use to keep those HDR values are EXR, HDR and TIFF set to 32-bit in the More options on the export dialog.
There are various approaches you can take to tone mapping. After doing your bracketed HDR merge, it sounds like you have tried using the Tone Mapping Persona and experimenting with the tone compression, local contrast and shadows/highlights sliders on the Basic panel? That is usually sufficient to get a tone mapped result where the highlights are no longer out of displayable range, but if it's not working for you there are a couple of other options you can try.
Within the main Photo Persona, we have a live Shadows/Highlights filter located on the top Layer>New Live Filter Layer menu. You can drag the Highlights Strength slider all the way to the left, then increase Highlights Range gradually—this works quite well for Archviz HDR 3D renders so you may want to try it for your photography (I presume real estate/architecture from the image you've attached?).
There is another option, which is to use a live procedural texture filter to perform a logarithmic transform, then shape the resulting tones using adjustment layers or 1D shaper LUTs. I'm slightly nerdy (🙃) so I dabble in a bit of macro creation in my spare time and provide some free macro downloads that may help you out here:
    HDR Tone Mapping macros: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/xa5gfxwup9uzhr9/AACTWvndBbY4FhTLQ9cGS3_na?dl=0
    Blender Filmic Transform macros: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/q5b2zlwytd3slr0/AADYfcI6JykHfn4w3NR3279za?dl=0
The Blender Filmic macros are actually designed for HDR 3D renders so users can match the filmic output they get in blender when saving directly to gamma-encoded formats like JPEG/TIFF etc, but they work very well for HDR photography as well. Don't tone map your HDR merge output at all (uncheck the option on the HDR merge dialog or cancel out of the Tone Mapping Persona), then run the appropriate macro from either of the two macro sets above and you'll be able to tone map your images with a more natural result. Don't forget there are PDF manuals available via those links too which will explain how to install and use the macros.
    Hope that helps!

I don't know but this is pretty much the reason I would no longer recommend any affinity software to anyone.
Yeah Photoshop sucks for having become a service as a product thing but at least they still develop and evolve.
This thread has been open for 6 years, constantly active and totally reasonable as a feature request
and its the second feature that I've basically been waiting on for years to at some point be integrated.

It feels like they made Photo and Designer six years ago and ever since just fixed a few bugs
while competitors kept improving their products

These days there is a lot of free or cheap one time payment editing software and I feel like
Affinity has had its peak days long ago

I just discovered a whole bunch of 404s in our logs for favicon.ico. Our site carries a lot of PDFs. From what I can tell, when a user clicks a link to open a PDF the browser forgets the favicon for the page it's on and goes to look for a new one. Obviously, PDFs don't have a link element, so the browser is just looking for favicon.ico in the web root.
So there's a reason for still needing them, and +1 to this old thread.

    Hello @Hawaiianmade,
    welcome to the forum.
You can assign Keyboard shortcuts to Paragraph styles. Look at 'Edit Text Style' on the first page. It's about half way down the options there.

Ah, I see. Yes, that would have uses. It could do with a partner reset button though. Or at least a snapping setting that corresponds to 100% text scale.

This problem is caused by the inadvertent resizing of one of the text frames using the outer ( at the lower right corner) resize handle. You will have to delete the frame(s) and reflow the text into new frames.

Also looking for a way to disable the colour picker. It’s absolutely maddening. I’m on an iPad Air 2, so sketching with my finger, and don’t have the precision of an Apple Pencil. I keep switching the colour to the white background, making drawing very frustrating.

Yeah, on Mac I cannot reorder assets by dragging. @walt.farrell Can you confirm that you are able to reorder assets within a category by dragging on Windows? If it works there, then maybe an intended functionality on Mac is not working right.

I've just received the preorder e-mail, and I'm excited for the launch. Presumably though, this special beta price is for the Serif store only? I'm torn, because I know Serif will get more money if I buy direct, and I'd love to support them, but my Photo and Designer licences are both from the Mac App Store, and I'd prefer to have everything in one place.
Will the Mac App Store be launching with the standard 20% discount mentioned in the e-mail? What about the free font pack that seems to be added to the order? Will App Store buyers be able to claim that?

How has one of the threads asking for this not been stickied yet? It's got to be one of the most requested things. It seems so absolutely core to the concept of a layout programme. I get that everyone thinks that about different features, but seriously, how can anyone not miss this?

    Hello,
I´m an editorial designer, and for me creating, managing and rearranging guides is basic, I found that even Illustrator lacks this and the only software I use which has this right is InDesign. I hope that Publisher and hopefully Designer as well might benefit from devs having this reconsidered.
I have seen the tutorials for Publisher and I found it crazy when the instructor just dragged guides out from the rulers by the eye. Professionals don't work like that, we set up guide systems in a rational and exact way. You can see this in the "master pages" video tutorial for Publisher. I know you can do this via the guides manager but it is one guide a the time right? or maybe I am missing something.
I -as many who are interested and suggesting stuff- hope Serif and the Affinity line can work things up to the level where there is no Creative Software Monopoly.
    Thanks

I think there is some misunderstanding here. It is true that Affinity is working within the standard print dialog box (which sometimes I wish Adobe would also do -- I still can't send jobs of more than 999 copies, even though I can in basic apps like Preview). BUT, they are using the application specific section. The "Range and Scale," "Document Layout" and "Bleed and Marks" are specific to Affinity Publisher. This is not dependent directly on either what macOS provides or the printer driver.
Notice these comparison screen shots of the dropdown printer settings menu of Affinity Publisher, Affinity Photo,TextEdit, and Preview :

In all of these screenshots, the printer I selected was the same, but the top section differs according to application. Or compare the above to this screenshot, which is Affinity Publisher printing to a Xerox (the ones above are to a Canon irADV):

It is an entirely different printer, so naturally the print driver features (middle section) are different. However, the app-specific section that Affinity provides is identical. The Document Layout section and the other two are custom by Affinity. If you need more convincing, notice this print dialog box from Affinity Publisher printing to a label maker:

Again, that is an entirely different print driver, but the same three options specific to Affinity are there. You can be sure that it wasn't DYMO who gave us the option to print booklets onto a roll of 1⅛ x 3½ labels, yet the option is there--because Affinity provides that option, independent of the print driver.
I appreciate this thread, because it has forced me to think it through, and in the end, I think Affinity is making the right choice to work within the paradigm of the operating system. (I would be interested to know how this is handled in the Windows version.) Sure, a few of the options could be fleshed out (for example, creep in booklet mode - and what is the difference in book and booklet modes?). But those things can be added within the framework that Serif has already established in these betas, and I think working in the standard dialog box is the wise choice.
InDesign's implementation tries to rewrite their own print dialog box to some extent, and despite what must have been a massive effort, it is buggy. To give just one example, with the latest drivers for our printer, I have to save as PDF or PS and then print from the lowly Preview instead of printing directly from InDesign. I must do this anytime I need both offsetting and a cover page taken from a different paper source. From InDesign, if I try to use those settings with multiple copies, it sends the job as though it were one really long document rather than multiple copies of a normal document. It takes a long time to send to the printer (like half an hour), and then when it prints, it treats it as one really long copy, with exactly one cover page and offset exactly one time. I have used these same settings in InDesign with previous drivers without this problem. But those are the kinds of things that happen when they try to go maverick.
To give another bizarre example, Safari's print dialog box is also somewhat custom. Although it is styled to mostly look like the standard implementation, it does not respect Apple's own convention. Not only are the options moved around from everything else, but there is a persistent bug that I reported more than seven years ago—when I was on a different computer, different operating system, and I had a different job in fact with different needs—where it will not respect paper margin settings. To specify a margin in Safari, you have to first go to System Preferences, create a custom paper size with the desired margins, and set that paper size to the default.
Thank you, Serif, for not messing with these things.

Have you got facing pages on? The print settings Garrettm30 recommended work just fine for me. Design with a page size of A5 and  facing pages on, so you have a spread for page one, a spread for pages two-three, and a spread for page four. Use the print settings to select an A4 paper size and a booklet layout, and Affinity should rearrange your pages to print with one and four on one side and two-three on the other.

Till now I used Pageplus, where I can define the number of rows, columns, the column gap et cetera. I was dissapointed that these options are not there in Affinity Publisher. So far, that's my only remark. Publisher is very nice to work with.
