Larsene
Hi, I'm learning to use Designer, and i've bought the book. It is a great book to learn Designer, thanks ! I really love the positionning tools for objects in designer. i've a question, because this is really an annoying point for me : Do you have an idea to display the objects that are outside the page ? Every object outside is masked.... Thanks !

It just you can't see it but once your artboard has been created then you can take any object outside. To make an artboad, click on artboard tool right above node tool in left side. then click on insert artboard and you are good to go. Affinity has released some tuts also. Please feel free to watch it and you will know so much about AD. :)

R C-R
But View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas don´t work with Artboards - unfortunately. Since the canvas is effectively infinite (you can place artboards anywhere on the canvas), in a sense 'clip to canvas' is always on if you are working with artboards. I guess the equivalent for artboards would be "Clip to Artboard(s)" but that could be weird because artboards can be any shape, size, or orientation, not just rectangular. You can even put one artboard inside another one. Staff MEB Posted February 6, 2017 Staff Share Posted February 6, 2017 Hi PixelPest, Why would they do? What you place in the pasteboard area is not outputted/printed anyway... Objects placed over the boundaries of the Artboards are automatically clipped. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
PixelPest
Thanks for the technically explanation - but being old-school (grown up with Freehand) it´s kinda non-intuitive for me to get all my bits&bytes from the assets bowser only to arrange on Artboards. I don't understand what you mean about getting everything from the Assets tab, or what that has to do with view clipping. You can create objects, place images, etc. anywhere, inside or outside of an artboard, just like with any other layer on the canvas. You can drag objects from one artboard to another in the Layers panel, duplicate, copy & paste, etc. Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 Affinity Photo 1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.

R C-R
@PixelPest: There is much more to artboards than one might expect. I did not realize this until I started browsing through the Artboards section of AD's built in help. The "About Artboards" topic lists a variety of uses for them, some of which are not as pages in the traditional sense. The "Adding and removing artboards" topic includes some surprising (to me, anyway) options, like converting an artboard to an object. That section includes this: If an object has been converted to an artboard, that artboard remains editable as if it was the original object. For example, an artboard converted from a closed shape can still be edited as a closed shape and an artboard converted from artistic text can still be edited as text. Combined with what I learned about artboard color properties from the "Color and opacity" topic, I came up with this (useless but interesting) example: artboard weirdness.afdesign Crazy, huh? Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 Affinity Photo 1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.

It is normal for image editors to work this way. Thomahawk
How was this solved? I have objects on an artboard and I need to play around with parts of the object that lay outside of the artboard. But since I can not see them, I can not change them. This is really annoying. Dont understand why Affinity does not allow me to deactivate stick to canvas for artboards too. makes no sense. If you're talking about objects that cross from an Artboard onto the pasteboard, there is no resolution. You can see objects that are fully in the pasteboard, or fully on an Artboard, but if it crosses outside the Artboard you can only see the part on the Artboard.
