debbru Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Can anyone tell me why you would Clear menu, under Open recent Quote
Ron P. Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I do it all the time. After a while or if you're opening a lot of images, it gets a little congested, just too many (for me). My thought process is, how many times do I want to open the same images over and over again? Unfortunately, since Affinity does not allow you to delete selected files or files that are no longer available, I sometimes have to delete the items from the junk with Clear that got tangled up in my work files. If Affinity allowed you to create/mark Favorites files, it would be even better. Unfortunately, this function is not available in the menu File\Open Recent, so I didn't even notice it. In the menu, pinned/favourite files could be displayed in a separate (primarily accessible) and non-deletable section. In this way, the use of pinned files is unnecessarily limited to the welcome screen. Because I use the dark UI the dark gray pin that appears is almost invisible against the black window background so I never noticed it. Just figured out that to delete a selected file from the recents list I have to click once to select it in the Recent Files window & then hover the pointer over the top left corner until an X in a circle appears. At least that is while on black so it is easy to see, but it seems counter-intuitive that I have to select the file to delete it whereas I do not to pin the file. Arg! I don't have to select the file to get the X to appear, but I have to be directly over some part of it for it to appear, whereas the pin icon does that over a slightly larger area. Overall, I am not a fan of this kind of hiding an option until the pointer is over it because you have no way of knowing it is there until you find where it has been hidden. It would be so much more user friendly if both of those icons always appeared near each file. Besides, as it is there seems to be no way to use either option if the window is not set to thumbnail view, so a right-click popup with the pin & delete options would work for either view. I just noticed that if it is set to line item (or whatever it is called) view the pin icons do appear at the right of the line. Old Bruce Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 I don't know why the Pin and Delete icons do not just show (dimmed if not pinned, high contrast if pinned) all the time. Another example of the trend for a "less distracting" user interface design (failure). The same annoying & unwelcome trend can be seen in the Layers panel where the lock icon is only visible on a layer if it is locked or you move the pointer over where it can be enabled. It is not as if these tiny little icons would pose a real distraction!
