jake
Probably an obscure, low priority feature request, but here it is: iOS7/8 is too fancy to use the standard circular rounded rect for icons. Instead favors the "superellipse" I thought it would be cool to have "superellipse" along with Round, Concave, Straight, Cutout corner styles available in the Rounded Rectangle tool. (but maybe its better as its own shape, rather than a corner type under rounded rect, I dunno.) I did see a twitter post with the equation needed to make the proper corners to fit in on iOS 7. https://twitter.com/marcedwards/status/347451374214213633 Thanks for your consideration. adib, fdelaneau and Hainz

CartoonMike
How about a "capsule" shape? The left/right or top/bottom are always a semi-circle and the sides are straight. Most times I have to create 2 circles and a square (or rectangle), get them so that all the points are aligned just so and then merge. To be able to do that in one step would be grand! Unless the capsule is what the "super ellipse is" (was the super-ellipse rocketed to earth from its destroyed home world? hmm?) Figmatt
@CartoonMike, your capsule shape be done with a line of a certain thickness with rounded caps/ends. The is default behaviour for me. CartoonMike
jake
Cool. For those confused about what a "superellipse" is, see this attached screenshot from the aforementioned tweet. Apple couldn't make the icons a standard rounded rect, like they had been for 6 iOS versions. Instead you need a fancy shape that's hard to draw correctly. When you package your icon for iOS, usually you leave the full corners and iOS handles the crop to this shape. Even still, I'd be that having the proper shape available right in the shapes palette would be a huge win for iOS icon designers. Sorry to feed Ben's shape addiction... hehe. CartoonMike
@Matt: true, but in my explorations I discovered that the rounded rectangle does the trick a bit faster (no expand stroke) for me. There's so many "nooks and crannies" in this app to explore. It is really good (imho) that there's many different ways to get the same results, in my mind that's a sign of a good app. Figmatt 1 Quote Mac OS X Catinlina, 2014 iMac, 3.5 Ghz Intel Core i7, Huion Kamvas Pro 22 Graphic Tablet, 16GB RAM, MacOS10.12 || Magic keyboard w/numeric keypad, wireless trackpad, Kengsington Edge Trackball || Flux Capacitor in a secure location --- I encourage kids to go ahead and play on my lawn. fdelaneau
@adib It seems it is still not available. @MEB Could you present the case to Ben please ? Now that the iPhone X is here and that even the notch features super-ellipses it would be really handy.

I've moved the thread to the current Feedback for Affinity Designer on Desktop section (was in the Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts) and nudged the dev/passed the feedback. Hopefully this should help to bring more attention to this feature. Thanks. fdelaneau
Just to bump this discussion and to mention that of course the specific superellipse type we are all looking for is the squircle or to be even more precise a quintic superellipse as mentioned in this Wikipedia article. But having access to other kind of superellipse using the superformula for exemple could also be really nice 😁

PaulEC
As it’s coming up for nine years since this was first requested and nothing has happened, I doubt if it ever will. (Which is a pity, as a few more shapes, with more options, would be quite nice!) However, in the mean time, a close approximation can be made (in Designer) with a four sided polygon, rotated through 45 deg, slightly rounded, then the corners rounded with the corner tool. (p.s. a capsule shape can be made in a similar way, with a rectangle and the corner tool!)
