Probably an obscure, low priority feature request, but here it is:

iOS7/8 is too fancy to use the standard circular rounded rect for icons. Instead favors the "superellipse"

I thought it would be cool to have "superellipse" along with Round, Concave, Straight, Cutout corner styles available in the Rounded Rectangle tool.  (but maybe its better as its own shape, rather than a corner type under rounded rect, I dunno.)

I did see a twitter post with the equation needed to make the proper corners to fit in on iOS 7.

Thanks for your consideration.

How about a "capsule" shape? The left/right or top/bottom are always a semi-circle and the sides are straight. Most times I have to create 2 circles and a square (or rectangle), get them so that all the points are aligned just so and then merge. To be able to do that in one step would be grand! Unless the capsule is what the "super ellipse is" (was the super-ellipse rocketed to earth from its destroyed home world? hmm?)

Cool.  For those confused about what a "superellipse" is, see this attached screenshot from the aforementioned tweet.  Apple couldn't make the icons a standard rounded rect, like they had been for 6 iOS versions.  Instead you need a fancy shape that's hard to draw correctly.

When you package your icon for iOS, usually you leave the full corners and iOS handles the crop to this shape.  Even still, I'd be that having the proper shape available right in the shapes palette would be a huge win for iOS icon designers.

Sorry to feed Ben's shape addiction... hehe.

@Matt: true, but in my explorations I discovered that the rounded rectangle does the trick a bit faster (no expand stroke) for me. There's so many "nooks and crannies" in this app to explore. It is really good (imho) that there's many different ways to get the same results, in my mind that's a sign of a good app.

Hi,

Ben (developer) will love this - new shape options are like a drug to him.. ;)

Shouldn't take too long to add either!

Surely you've noticed, that developers don't comment on feature requests in principle. So to expect some "news" from them is useless.
If you really want to follow what's new in the development of ASuite applications, follow the Beta forum.

As it’s coming up for nine years since this was first requested and nothing has happened, I doubt  if it ever will. (Which is a pity, as a few more shapes, with more options, would be quite nice!)

However, in the mean time, a close approximation can be made (in Designer) with a four sided polygon, rotated through 45 deg, slightly rounded, then the corners rounded with the corner tool.

(p.s. a capsule shape can be made in a similar way, with a rectangle and the corner tool!)

Hi,

Just a nudge to this request, as I'd also love to see superellipses added as a shape type.

There's a video on Youtube that shows how to create 'Squircles', by adjusting the node handles on a circle, but that isn't the same thing as a superellipse.

We can do better than 'close approximations'.

Regards,

Derek
