grouping results in text resize

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Ben. :)

If you’ve used Artistic Text, this is not a beta issue and it isn’t a bug. Artistic Text resizes by design: use Frame Text instead if you don’t want resizing to occur.

Maybe I misread the OP? Isn't Ben________ complaining about resizing text with just grouping and no other action? This is all I can read in his question or I don't see the finesse of the English language. ;)

Perhaps a screen recording would be good.

Thanks for the replies.

Here are some screen shots that illustrate the issue.

I wonder if it is possible to convert artistic text to frame text?

Hi @Ben____,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Can you attach the file shown in your video (before grouping) please?

No, i's not possible to convert an artistic frame into a text frame. Copy and paste the text from the artistic text object to the frame text.

of course-  here it is

When I group objects which includes text, it resizes all the text. How do I disable this auto-resize?

You don't, it's a bug introduced in a later 1.9 beta, not sure which one but present in current beta

Recipe1:

New document
Create text frame with text
Use bottom-right extra handle to resize text bigger
Group text frame (just on its own)

Result: Text size increases immediately after grouping

Recipe2:

New document
Create text frame with text
Use bottom-right extra handle to resize text smaller
Group text frame (just on its own)

Result: Text size decreases immediately after grouping

Bug report needs logging

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Text in scaled text frame could increase in size when grouped) of the program in the latest customer beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below.

The latest beta builds are downloadable from links at the top of each of these beta forum posts.

These betas install parallel, next to the release version (they do not overwrite your release) and so the fixes can be tried in the beta without affecting your normal workflow in the release version.

Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.9.1 update/patch to all customers.
