  1. With the brush tool, you can't currently use angle constraint lines while holding shift. Please add this (like in Photo's pixel brush) although click dragging + holding down shift should constrain to straight lines at 15 degree angles.
  2. Problem Keyboard shortcuts on the numpad are rather limited in functionality (apart from the fact that there is no differentiation between the numeric row and numpad keys), because the Shift key negates Numlock. This means that Shift+Numpad key activates the secondary function (as if numlock was turned off). It invokes Home, End, PgUp, PgDown, Left, Right, Up, Down and Clear. This means that any combination of keyboard shortcuts with the shift key becomes 'invalid' since it replicates a key that is accessed with a single press. Considering that any keyboard with a numpad has access to these stand-alone keys, it makes little sense that they are registered this way. I know some applications are faced with the same limitation, however, some (such as Blender) don't have this issue. This is on Windows 10, UK keyboard, US International layout, using 1.10.4.1198. Observation Apart from creating redundant key sequences, some of the combinations cannot seem to be assigned properly, for instance if I assign shift + Numpad 5 as keyboard shortcut, it registers as "clear". Shift + Alt + Numpad 5 becomes Alt + Clear, and Ctrl + Shift + Alt + Numpad 5 is impossible to enter, because the value box remains active on "Ctrl + Alt + Clear". Notice that the any commands assigned to key-sequence with "Clear" as value work as intended. However, it does not register when using the regular 5 key, so it is actually recording a different input than a numeric key. Expectation I expect the key-sequence to show the numbers the same way as the numeric row does, so they won't circumvent numlock when using the numpad. Better solution Or better yet, any numpad key should be registered as Num(pad) [key]. This is how Blender does it and that way, any key from the numpad, whether 1-9 or / * - + . key, they will register without issues and most importantly, may be used for additional shortcuts, see and
  3. I am trying to print various images / photo's from Affinity Photo using a Canon Pro 1000 printer and for some strange reason all attempts have resulted in the image displaced e.g. not centred. The margins are all set up & look good & even in soft proofing but the A2 printed image is offset to one side (rt.) approx. 2→5mm in both portrait & landscape. When editing / printing using the Canon software then the photos don't have this issue. I've noticed other posts on here that have similar issues but I've not discovered a solution. If anyone is able to advise me as to what is amiss that would be great as not being able to produce a correctly positioned photo kind of defeats the whole purpose of my purchase.
  4. I have a weird issue with Affinity Designer. The mouse pointer displays heavily shifted to the bottom-right of the actual spot when using the Pen Tool. Of course this makes using the tool a lot harder. I have recorded two videos to show the issue. The first video is a recording from my phone while creating a bezier curve. The second video was taken at the same time using the screen recorder of my Mac. Yes, because, funny thing is that on the screen recording, the mouse pointer is at the right place, so I had to make a video with my phone to show that the pointer is actually shifted to the bottom right of the actual spot. Of course, I'm not experiencing this issue in any other software than Affinity Designer, so I'm assuming the issue comes from Affinity. I have enabled the grid to make it more easy to see the issue. I'm on Catalina 10.15.7 on a brand new Macbook Pro 16", using a Benq PD2700U external monitor. Here is how my performance settings are configured: Important note I've just noticed: the issue with the mouse pointer only occurs on the external monitor, not the built-in retina display of my laptop. Any help will do. Screen_Recording_2020-12-25_at_16_50_41.mov VID_20201225_165043.mp4
  5. It would be great to add an option/pref in Photo to make scaling of placed images consistent with scaling of other elements. SHIFT=proportional / NO SHIFT=non-proportional The way it is currently leads to more errors due to muscle memory. I would like to ALWAYS have to hold shift to keep an item proportional. It seems like an odd choice to have SHIFT behave different for different objects. Sometimes I end up slightly distorting a placed image because I hold shift to constrain it but I'm actually not constraining it.
  6. I apologize in advance if this was addressed before. I couldn't find anyone asking the same thing. I need to select multiple points on a vector object, but I can only do so by doing multiple selections. On PC I'd hold Shift, but on iPad I'm clueless. I could use my case keyboard for that, but I want to know how can one do it without the need of a physical Shift button. Thanks in advance!
  7. Hello everyone! This is another feature request. I'd like to request a feature that lets users of Designer and Photo use tools in a straight way when holding shift. For example, when I want to draw a straight line, holding down shift should draw a line between starting point and current cursor location. This behaviour should be added to other tools as well. If I want to use the "Smudge Brush Tool" or the "Inpainting Brush Tool" in a straight way, there is currently no way of doing so that I'm aware of. Adding shift + alt for snapping to multiples of 45° between starting point and current cursor location could be very useful as well. Also, I do know about left clicking using the "Paint Brush Tool", then holding shift and clicking at the end point to get a straight line. But this behaviour is limited to that tool and you don't get a live preview of the line or snapping to multiples of 90° or 45°. The "Free hand Selection Tool" includes a similar feature to the one that I just requested. The difference is that the existing feature doesn't use the cursor location when left mouse clicking for its starting point, but rather the cursor location when starting to hold shift. This does make sense for that specific tool, but I think other tools would benefit from a set starting point at the time when mouse left is clicked. And that existing feature doesn't seem to have any snapping options either, which could be useful sometimes. Best wishes, Shu
  8. Hi all, Would it be possible to add support for Shift key to add a selection for the Marquee tool? We have the Add Mode button over the tool bar but sometimes is much faster to hold Shift and continuing selecting than jumping to the tool bar. And we have the hold right mouse button while adding but that workflow is not ergonomically at all it prompt to mistakes. Moreover, for people with carpal tunnel syndrome (like me) forcing one finger down while trying to click with another finger is a big big no. Cheers, Juan
  9. Hello, I miss option to move/shift image in lens correction options of develop persona. When I fix rotation and vertical or horizontal distortions, I want to scale image up as less as possible to remove empty areas caused by corrections. And when I scale the image, it can't be moved relative to canvas. Something like shift-x, shift-y would be nice to have. Miro
  10. Hey there, After working on Affinity Designer for a month now. I'm always thrown off by the inconsistency of using shift while scaling an object/text. By default when you scale a text or a group Affinity Designer scales it proportionately without having to hold shift. But if you hold shift you get to do a free form transform on the text or group. However when you select a single object or multiple objects (not group) at once Affinity Designer by default lets you do free form transform. But when you hold shift that changes to scaling it proportionately for a single object or multiple objects (not group). I find this at least in Adobe Illustrator it's consistent with what shift does. I would know always that holding shift will let me scale all things proportionately. How does everyone feel about that? Thanks!
  11. Hi, I made the switch from Adobe Creative Cloud to Affinity Designer and Photo. I don't regret it at all but I'm missing something really useful that neither Affinity Designer nor Photo have. I'm talking about how it's possible to resize from center in Photoshop just by using ALT modifier. Same think about SHIFT modifier to keep aspect ratio. The best is to be able to use those modifier separately or combine. Can you consider adding this? Thank you so much
  12. I'm sure somewhere on this whole forum is a big discussion about Affinity Designer's decision and recounted inconsistencies about how it handles SHIFT + <resize object>. I'm sorry if I've tread into an already well-debated topic with a new thread. While I believe the original Affinity idea and implementation is that proportional resizing is almost always used so it should be the default (therefore SHIFT + <resize object> performs the action non-proportionally). However, I find the implementation across different types of use cases in AD is extraordinarily inconsistent. In fact, when I try to recount the different use cases, I can't remember if they scale proportionally or not because of the inconsistencies and variety of use cases. At the most basic level, it seems really inconsistent that a group is sized proportionally, but a shape (rectangle, circle, etc.) isn't. Turning a shape into a symbol then makes the default resizing action behave proportionally. Layers and groups are symbolically the same, so their resize behaviour seems the same too. However an artboard (effectively similar as it holds objects) is not resized the same as a layer/group (holding down shift and resizing the artboard does it proportionally). Images and text are sized proportionally. Drawings (i.e. with the pen/pencil tool) are not sized proportionally. If the default proportional resizing action is to <resize object> WITHOUT holding down shift, then it should be carried across all use cases, making holding down SHIFT + <resize object> resize non-proportionally. User experience-wise, I don't like having to keep track & adjust for the inconsistent behaviour — it is not intuitive nor consistent and causes friction. I just want non-proportional resizing when not holding down SHIFT, and when holding down SHIFT for the resizing to be proportional. Is it possible to have this as an option in the app?
  13. Does the layer list get activated when the mouse cursor moves above it? If so, what would people like the idea to be able to assign Ctrl, Alt or Shift as modifiers to mouse wheel, to be applied to that list? Functions like: Ctrl+Wheel = Move Selected layer up/down Shift+Wheel = Select layers up/down Alt+Wheel = Change layer transparency/mode Other functions to enable with modifiers could be like: wheel Up = Show layer wheel Down = Hide layer wheel Up = Select widget tabs right wheel down = Select widget tabs left
  14. Hello. I have been using Illustrator regularly since CS2 (~10 years), and I recently purchased Affinity Designer. I'm interested in a dictionary of Illustrator features and workflows done in Designer. I'm willing to pay $$$ for it too. For example: Illustrator anchor point: Designer it is called an X Illustrator outline mode: Designer go to X menu and click Y Illustrator direct selection tool: Designer combination of X tool and Y tool. If you need to select and move one Z Illustrator reflect tool: Designer not a tool, but reflection function, etc... Unreal Engine has some pretty good Unity to Unreal transition resources (I won't link to them since this is my first post). Does such a resource exist for Affinity Designer?
  15. When I'm in a numeric text field, holding down the Shift key as I tap the arrow keys should increase/decrease the value 10x. (At the moment this key combination acts to select the text before/after the insertion point, which, while standard behavior for text fields, is not the expected behavior for numeric input fields.)
  16. Hello everyone! I've got some questions about shortcuts in Affinity Photo and Designer: 1.: I read that ctrl + shift + tab is supposed to let me jump to the next file. But for whatever reason, this only works sometimes. Is there a different way to jump to the next / previous file? Could I be doing something wrong? 2.: Is there a way to select the layer above / below the currently selected one? I am working on OSX 11.6 using Designer 1.5.1 and Photo 1.5.1. Thanks for any help! Shu
  17. Hey, So in Photoshop you can Ctrl click a layer and use either Alt, Shift, and Alt+Shift (on Windows) to allow the subtracting, adding or selecting the intersection of the current selection. This is really handy for creating masks and composite shapes. I know in Affinity Photo that you can Ctrl click a layer to select the opaque area, but using the keyboard modifiers doesn't seem to do anything else. Is there another way to do what I do in Photoshop in Affinity Photo? Cheers, Mark
  18. Especially with the stroke width slider I would like to constrain the selection to whole numbers, or predefined common values. I guess I am used to Xara where it is a drop-down offering None, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4 etc. At present I drag and end up with a value like 1.3 which I then have to modify by hand (typing). Perhaps constraining to whole numbers if pressing Shift while dragging? Or do it the opposite way around (like the Zoom slider in Navigator Panel) where there are fixed stops that the slider snaps to, but holding Alt disables the snapping?
  19. As the title suggests, I find the resizing modifier keys inconsistent in both applications. Example: Open Designer Choose a primitive shape and hold down the shift key as you place it on the canvas so it has an aspect ratio of 1:1 Now grab one of the corner handles and shift-drag to resize your object and it retains that aspect. Select Layer -> Rasterize Grab a corner handle of the object and shift-resize it Undo because that's not what you expect to happen Re-grab the corner handle and hold down option instead and it retains aspect ratio. Now grab a side handle and try the same thing. Option has no effect, shift retains aspect ratio. Is this an error? Or is there some internal logic that I'm not appreciating? Or is there some obscure setting that means this is only affecting me?
  20. Please consider adding the following behavior: When the user holds down Shift + rotates the canvas, constrain the rotation of the canvas to 15° increments. Thank you of your consideration and lal you do.
  21. I’m sorry that I always bring Fireworks as comparison but its workflow was/is just so convenient. Here is another one: When you had guides shown and the default selection tool (V) selected, pressing the Shift key showed the distance between those guides between which the cursor was placed. I’d love to see that in AD, too.
