  1. Just a random royal black woman with a confident look
  2. Just another long experiment in AD and AP to share I was really inspired by the tutorials uploaded to the Forum by (Frankentoon) and links to a fantastic website. Character Design Tutorial Brainstorming with primitives and other tutorials produced by Yulia Sokolova So I thought I would play around with ‘primitives’ and some of the new texture brushes recently created. 65 layers and 2 and an embedded Affinity Photo file with another 5 layers mixed with coffee and a couple of late nights ….and this is the crazy result…
  3. I've noticed a behavior when moving objects while holding down shift. I would expect that holding down shift locks the object on an axis, but alas, small movements are still happening. I thought holding down shift is intended exactly to prevent this? Is this a bug or am I not understanding this feature correctly? I've recorded a short video to show exactly what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SMCSVoD4fQ
  4. Many time in graphic design we have question which color use. So I think very usefull will be add sugesting color feature. Working example of this is Adobe Kuler website. Why? It is a automatication process of choosing new color. Some people do it by intuition, by other by math. For beginner and I think many professional it can improve workflow create for example few version of web layout or for photographers what background choose to complete picture. More explenation (with great free ebook on using colors with curves) is on Wacom page Wacom Color Master here - ebook titled "Color Theory: Understanding and Mastering Curves" (I'm recommed this lecture) and in basic of colors in video Natalia Taffarel on YouTube. Simply this feature is help to choose colors well working together. What? Type of sugesting colors: Complementary Split Complementary Triad Tetrad (Double Complementary) Analog Accented Analog Custom Options change from sugested colors saturation and brightness to still get harmony of colors. How? 1. Choosing color It's simply choose color and get colors matching to type fx. Triad - that is as Adobe Kuler does on webpage. After that we can add colors as pallete to document / application with option setting global color to better changing them in te future. 2. Finding pallete Detecting pallete used in document. Based on that sugesting which color match to selected type (fx. complementary) or not. On photo is finding which colors you can use to background / text descibes etc. 3. Sets of color in pallete First you create pallete to use in document and make them as set color with global colors. After that you make new using option 1 or option 2 and after that you create new set. Then you can change set using in document. In Affinity Designer for example you can create duplicate project linking to base (when you choose source copy change too) on Artboard. Only difference is that you for Artboard 1 choose set 1, and for Artboard 2 you choose set 2 of colors. On Artboard 1 you have typical version on website layout and on Artboard 2 you have version for morning (news websites use this when some very important person died like president, pope etc.). In Affinity Photo it can be classic set of color for older people more toned and more dynamic for young people. For example photographer makes elegant frame for photo with two version of background fx. making avatars with photo. Sets color in my vision are variation of colors within document pallete. So we have all sets colors in document pallete, but by choosing set we choose which global color are used in document now. For example I create frame and set one set of global colors named "boy" and second set named "girl". By clicking which set I use I get variation using in label design now for boys (set "boys") or girls (set "girls"). Summary I don't know why many application is not doing this on the standard. Choosing right color is a base of graphics and photo editing. It is not look like a very complicated make color wheel and sugesting color on them. For me it could be very usefull option for many of users. If someone feel well choosing color how Affinity application do now then in can simply uncheck / select option "not sugesting". For others sugesting color is automatication color theory without getting a long lecture with math calculation for it.
  5. All in the title, i use constrain quite a lot in my webdesign so that i can resize all the assets i create. But often i need to break things appart to reuse them in other/new assets. And i always need to select all the object from previous assets, to reset all sorts of constrains manually by enabling and desabling all options ta be sure i don't forget one. (because you know what happen if you try to group objects again with contrain on them... Pouf ! vanish! ) So a little reset button could be SOOO great ! Thx ! NB : And maybe a notification/popup message, when you are going to group/ungroup objects that has contrains with one another ? Cheers !
  6. Hi, I've bought some illustrations with text made in AI. I did open a file in AD, and the text was too long, out of the border of the illustration. Is this a known issue or why does AD this? I thought, that especially text could never make such problem. The first screenshot is from the original guide, obviously made in AI, the second screenshot comes from the same file opened in AD, absolutely the right font, because I opened the same file in a friend's PC with AI installed, that illustration looked like the one from the guide.
  7. Its been a massive learning curve, Affinity Designer, Illustration, book design but fun and exciting at the same time. So, My Strawberry Monkey is super excited to share his first digital book releases created in Affinity Designer. Printed versions will become available at some point down the line but for now get your digital pre-orders in: Available from Amazon Available from iBooks - Book1 Available from iBooks - Book2 My Strawberry Monkey is aimed at pre-schoolers (around the 2-6 age range) so if you have any young kids, grandchildren, nieces, nephews etc click on the links above depending on your device, if you have a Kindle Fire or use the Kindle App go for Amazon or if you have an Apple device click on the iBooks versions. Or just search on Amazon or the iBooks app for My Strawberry Monkey. Still working on the new site which is going to be filled with some activities, stay tuned for an update shortly. Thanks to the Affinity team for such an amazing app and thanks to those who have shown their support over the last few months, I appreciate all the support. Allan Thompson
  8. A bit of Fun and practice using Affinity to make an album cover. :) Album Covers: Here are the rules: 1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. 2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations" or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page are the title of your album. 3 - Go to Rgbstock and click on “RANDOM” or click http://www.rgbstock.com/random The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover. 4 - Use Affinity Designer/Photo to put it all together and share your results. I look forward to seeing your pictures. :) Unbelievably my random wiki article was actually a music page :o hence the band name "Ocean (B's song)" and my picture was a fisherman! Not so sure about the title though :)
  9. I'm new to design so excuse if this it's a dumb question. I duplicate a shape with no stroke but the new shape doesn't have the same size. There is some "extra" which I believe it's from the stroke. Please take a look at the attached file. Thank you.
  10. My team and I have changed from Illustrator to AD and have begun to import all of our assets. Is there any chance that we can expect updates on assets any time soon? We are going to export the asset file every time we make changes, but when we import it this will become it's own category of assets. I would love to have the option to replace the category if it has the same name. Would also love to be able to change an assets, as I understand it now we would need to delete it from the panel and then create a new one.
  11. Making a subscription card for dance lessons with AD.
  12. I have started to migrate all my projects from Illustrator to Affinity Designer and was very happy when I found the assets panel. unfortunatly there seems to be some issues with the color management. Not on the actual assets, but in the panel. Some of the assets have changed color since I added them (yesterday afternoon), but when I drag them into a document they have the right color. Is this a setting somewhere or is it a bug? Attached is a screen shot of my assets, they should all have a dark grey color, but many of them have a greenish tone now..
  13. Hello, I would like to show you a little progress of what I have been able to do thanks to affinity designer, I love this program
  14. When I rename a symbol in the Symbol panel, the new name does not propagate to instances of the symbol already on the page. Also, could renaming and deleting be brought inline with other conventions within Designer... Click the name in the Symbols panel to rename Rename inline rather than a modal box Select in Symbols panel and hit Delete key to delete Thanks for your consideration.
  15. While procrastinating for loads of work that I should've done like yesterday... I started to sketch this guy out... until the point it got finished haha... and that's the magic of procrastination... made with Designer :) Hope you like it!
  16. Hi Team, I am having problems using windows affinity designer and windows affinity designer. They don't open when it's used on Windows and then attempted to open on Mac.. Is there a work around for this? I can RDP into my windows machine, but then I get issues with "Windows Aero" - Agh! Headaches!!! HELP!! Thank you. Lee
  17. After almost 10 years of using mainly Illustrator... I'm trying really hard to get used to Affinity Designer. I really miss to be able to select nodes from different objects and to move handlers of a node symmetrically... but even tho I find that some features of AD are really sweet and really engourages me to keep learning. I'm really looking fordward to the 1.6 update :D and I'm glad I bought this nice software.
  18. Guys, how were you sold on Affinity Designer? I mean what was the main reason (or reasons?) that you decided to give thee software a shot? For me it was the price and the lack of subscription (obviously:) ) But also how smoothly it runs (even on Wiindows 10 :D ) and how easy it is to design UI's with it. How about you?
  19. Simple things first: 1. Path Simplification - esp. on expanded Strokes | since my first post (AD v1.3) highlighted the problems with it. 2. Textbox Linking (perhaps more a Publisher feature but would be handy here too - remember Aldus/Macromedia Freehand?!) 3. Perspective Grid 4. Photoshop/Illustrator swatch / palette converter?! More complicated (i think) 1. A 3D Rotation tool... | for instance to rotate / correct perspective / on a text layer or vector group. No extrusion (looks always awful), just z-depth, perspective and rotation 2. Clever curves, curve/spline & handle interaction?! For a lack of examples: like: Astute Graphics VectorScribe / InkScribe https://astutegraphics.com/software/vectorscribe/
  20. Hi there, it is not possible for me to export PDF´s out of Designer and Photo. I´ve tried several settings but is not possible to export a PDF file. Everytime i get the message that "The file could not be created"! Is there any idea about that? Thanx a lot!!
  21. Hello everyone! I would like to show you some portraits I did some time ago in Affinity Designer. It was fun! Let me know what do you think. You can see full project on my Behance: https://www.behance.net/gallery/49551783/Random-portraits-01-09
  22. Something I've been working on recently - http://houseofdeadleg.co.uk/portfolio/the-kings-hat/
  23. Just bought Affinity Designer a few days ago and I have this problem: Even when I have a layer locked and I'm working on an upper layer... the paths goes right on to the locked layer and I have to manually move this object to the current layer I was working on. On the image you can see that the selected path is on the locked layer and I started doing that line on the upper layer... it's annoying... There is a way to avoid this? I tryed to restart Affinity Designer... Create another document but the problem stills there so I'm guessing this is a behavior and not a bug. Thanks :D
