  1. Good morning, I would like some advice I could buy an Imac 27' late 2013 with OSX Catalina 10.15 at an advantageous price; I admit that I am not familiar with the Mac environment. the question is: Do Affinity software run well with OSX Catalina or do you advise against buying it? Thank you very much... P.S. The computer in question has an i7 3.5GHz 4-Core processor, 16 GB ram, HD Fusion 1 TB and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M – 2GB video card.
  2. I have exactly the same problem on MacOS Catalina. The idml files are created with Adobe CS6. WHen I try to open them, the are greyed out. I have attached an image of this in case there some confusion about what this means. I have tried twice to regenerate the files. The show up grey out, that also show up greyed out when I use File/Place. Also, If I attempt to drag the file onto Designer, it does not open. Does anyone have a solution.
  3. For me, the CMD-Tab switches are essentially instantaneous, but I'm still running Catalina.
  4. I am not sure what you mean about not linking content categories in the app Settings (Preferences for me on my iMac running Catalina) because AFAIK there is no such setting that affects linking Palettes in the Swatches panel. Regardless, the lack of a simple "Unlink" item in the options menu makes this much more complicated & error prone that it should be. Any idea why they removed the unlink item from that menu?
  5. That iMac performance spec wise should still work Ok with Affinity apps under macOS Catalina (10.15) and should support Affinity v2 apps too. - Can't tell if "Hej stylus v3" may have any impact here on the drawing behavior with the Affinity apps, as I've never used that.
  6. I don't have a Catalina mac device to test on currently - but if I was to hazard a guess do you have Scaling enabled under Apple > System Preferences > Display?
  7. Hi, my Mac is Catalina v 10.15.7, my Affinity photo is v 10.1.6, Iv'e not upgraded to the new affinity yet. I also have On1 2022 raw, and that has the same colour cast. I believe that this problem dates to at least last year, and I'd have thought that it would have been resolved by now. Many thanks for your input, it's much appreciated, I'll try that later today and advise the outcome. I noticed that my Mac is listed on that link that you sent, so hoping that it works.
  8. Yeah, that's all fine and well. So all you need to tell them for now: Don't! There is no rush. Never change an operating system that just works. Especially since they'll still be getting OS security updates for at least two or three years to come. Hint: The APFS file system makes it very easy to simply add another volume to your existing one. (Unless you were trying to "save" money and bought a Mac with a paltry and pathetically slow 256 GB SSD, that is.) Anyone who wants to live on the "cutting edge" yet sleep well, just create a new ±50 GB volume on the fly and install Sonoma on it to test whatever you need to test, separately from your mission critical system. Disclosure: I bought a new fully loaded MacBook Air 15" just two weeks ago to replace my aging MacBook Pro mid-2012 running primarily MacOS El Capitan (!) as my "mission critical" partition, because El Capitan still just works for literally anything I need to work on, including design (Affinity v1, and – heck – Adobe CS5.5) and audio (Logic X and a bunch of "vintage" Firewire audio interfaces). That said… I love the 15" MacBook Air. And Ventura is much better than I thought it would be, based on my experience with Catalina as well as with a few buddies' Macs running Big Sur and Monterey. The major p.i.t.a. in Ventura so far is the Music.app. I want my iTunes 10.7 back!!! And also the lack of Firewire audio compatibility although there is already a hack online to fix it (not tested yet, must buy dongles first, duh). So unless Apple would massively improve the Music.app in Sonoma to my liking – which is unlikely to happen – I won't be upgrading until at least v14.3, if at all. It wouldn't be the first time I'd skip a full MacOS release version completely: Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, Big Sur, Monterey – I skipped them all and didn't miss anything.
  9. An update on installing the free Google Nik Collection on "unsupported" systems like MacOS Ventura on a brand new MacBook Air M2 15" (yay!). While the original installer application will refuse to proceed with installation – babbling something about "requires Mac OS X 10.7 or later" (duh!) – you can still use the Niks if you already had a working installation on your old Mac: copy the following folders/files to the same respective locations on the new Mac: /Applications/path_to_you_nik_apps_folder (I have renamed mine so I don't remember its original folder name) optionally the Nik PS plugins folder if it was stored elsewhere (mine was in the apps folder since I can't run PS CS5.5 on Catalina, obviously) /Library/Preferences/Google (folder) /Library/Preferences/Nik Collection.plist /Users/your_user_name/Library/Preferences/Google (folder) check all the standalone Nik apps first if they work (they should) quit APh Get Info in Finder on the APh app check "Open using Rosetta" launch APh (may take quite some time the first time) do the usual known procedure to enable 3rd party plugins for APh don't forget to select the layer you want to apply the plugin on, otherwise the plugins will be grayed out… Works for me. Since I don't use the Nik plugins very often, I'll be runing APh natively, only switching it to Rosetta mode if I'd actually need one of the plugins – which is usually only the Analog Efex.
  10. Odd. I can drag a vector file from Pixabay in the Stock panel into an empty document window in AD V2.1.1 on my Mac running Catalina & it opens fine. Same for dragging one into a preexisting document. For example, with the search filter set to faces I can drag this 'Smiley Happy Eyes' vector into the empty window & get this Smiley Happy Eyes.afdesign file. Tested with the same vector file in AD 2.1.1.1849 on my iPad & it also opened without issue, although I had to drag it into a new document window because I could not figure out how to access the Stock studio without first creating a document to drag stuff into. I did further testing on my iPad with other Pixabay vectors & some did not actually load, even though the 'downloading' message appeared, but the app still did not crash. I have other problems with it, like embedded files not showing up in the documents after hiding & unhiding them, but again, the app never crashed even when it misbehaved.
  11. What I mean by "it" is the file extension -- when I open the file in TextEdit, it has the .svg file extension, so when I save it it does not matter if I have the "When Saving a File" preferences set to "Add ".txt" extension to plain text files". This is because the tooltip for that says option only applies to files that do not already have a known extension. This is with version 1.15 that comes with Catalina, but I would be surprised if it is any different for later versions.
  12. For me on Catalina in both retail and beta apps, the only Preset sizes missing after selecting; File > New… are: A2, A1 & A0. But like jackamus after creating a new Document, if I go into ‘Document Setup’ those three missing preset sizes are available there. So I suspect the bug is in the New File setup window.🤔
  13. Hi Hangman! Thanks for the response! I'm going to try some of your suggestions and will upload the project as requested if I can't resolve it. I'm using Publisher 2 on a MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7 and using Acrobat Reader. Thanks again, get back asap! Heinrich Dahms www.buzzmedia.net
  14. Well, for pretty new cams on the market the first app which will support those cams is always the cam vendors software. In your case here Nikon's NX Studio! - Some time later, the other big guys of that RAW converter software business, do or will adopt here their software too in order to support any popular new cams. For a Nikon Z8 (great cam by the way) the RAW converter software to take a look at for supporting it in a better way, thus would be in this order ... Nikon NX Studio (which usually also comes along with the cam as the reference software) Capture One (Pro) for Nikon Adobe LR and Adobe Camera RAW DxO, DxO Pure RAW ... the rest which is quality wise not on the same level as the before named software here ... Reverse engineering is mostly needed by other third party tools here, those which/who don't make use of Nikon's own offered Nikon SDK. So all third party software which relies on things like LibRaw, which Affinity Photo and a bunch of freeware/opensource RAW converters do rely on! DAM software is a slightly other theme here, as most of these are meant for image archiving, cataloging, previewing & retrival. So many of these just offer to preview the JPG thumb images included in RAW files, thus not all of them offer here to work & deal on/with the plain RAWs themselve in a manner like a RAW converter usually does. Beside all the above said, I always wonder that people who buy and use more expensive pro cams (like a Nikon Z9 or Z8 and the accompanied glass for those etc.) are then looking after using cheap, at best only mediocre callable RAW processing software (like Affinity Photo) for the image handling job here. Forgotten to mention, that Apple Aperture can often still be (re)used on macOS Ventura, macOS Monterey, macOS Big Sur, and macOS Catalina via Retroactive!
  15. @Serif Info Bot Alas, no joy in my world. I've just upgraded to Affinity Photo 2.1.1 in hopes of seeing that the "can't connect to server" issue has been fixed I'm on a 2012 MacBook Pro running Catalina. I'm still getting the message. Again, I've had to delete the mru.dat file to get things to work.
  16. I wonder if Windows has anything like the macOS Keyboard Viewer? I never really used it much in the past but now that I am playing around with it & check out the extra options available via the gear icon, I realize it is quite powerful, even able to make suggestions & do some other stuff I am still trying to figure out as described in https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/use-the-accessibility-keyboard-mchlc74c1c9f/10.15/mac/10.15. The links above are for Catalina but most of these options are available even in old macOS versions like High Sierra! Who knew?
  17. It may be different in later or other versions of Apple Photos than I use with Catalina but for me, Save as.. is always greyed out when using Edit in AP from Apple Photos. To keep an independent version of the Apple Photos file to edit in AP (or any other app) in Apple Photos I use the File > Export ... option in that app.
  18. Affinity version 2 apps require macOS Catalina (version 10.15) or later. Affinity version 1 apps are no longer available.
  19. For what it is worth, I am using Big Sur, and all of the V2 apps are performing flawlessly, including the latest Betas 2.2.0.1903. One step beyond Catalina but not venturing into uncharted territory! (At least for me. IOS 16.5.1 (c) did a number on several of my iPad and iPhone settings for which I am not a happy camper.)
  20. I'm thinking Catalina would be the best bet since I see numerous issues with Monterey and Ventura in the forums. As a rule, I'm leery of the latest updates until all the bugs get worked out.
  21. The bug affects versions 2.1.1. I haven't tried earlier versions in the V2 series. I can not reproduce the problem consistently, however it has happened several times in a short time span. It does happen with an (almost) new document. It has never worked with V2, it's a brand new install. It did work in V1. macOS 10.15.7 (19H2026) Here's what happened: I start Affinity Publisher 2 or Affinity Designer 2. I create new document with standard A4 template. I add a few rounded rectangles, and choose Save from the File menu. Nothing happens at all. No save panel, no error message, just nothing at all. It's as if you never asked to Save the file. When it happens, if you choose quit and then say you want to save changes, the same thing happens. No save panel, and the application does not quit. It's as if you never tried to quit the application. It happened for about 50-60% of attempts after installing the new software. After writing this message I have not been able to reproduce the error, in order to produce screen shots. Sorry for posting a bug report I can not consistently reproduce, but it's a huge deal. I lost many hours of work because of it.
  22. I run Catalina on my iMac with Affinity & it works fine. Your 2017 iMac can run all current macOS versions but if you want to run an older one like Catalina you may find it difficult to install it. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683 may help with that.
  23. Hi @StewartTower and welcome to the forum. macOS Catalina 10.15 is the smallest working version with which the Affinity V2 programs work.
