AleMello got a reaction from ThinkDifferent in Saving Layers Visibility Choices
    Hi Callum.
I agree with, it would be great.
When I was young I use Indesign, I save a lot of time organising layers in Photoshop and Illustrator so, when I import those files to Indesign, I was able to choose which layers I would like to see in that place. The same file (a single file) was enough for lots of imports, just choosing which layers (or layer comps) I need.
Please, if it's not asking too much, would you consider implementing this?
Really, the workflow is much easier this way.
Now, I'm doing the wrong way: place a Designer file in Publisher, double click, choose the layers I need, copy, back to Publisher file, paste and repeat for other places. Then I simple remove the original Designer file I place and finally save.
8 steps, when I should need only 3: place, choose layers, repeat.
    Thanks a lot.

I don't understand why you are moaning about our needs.
The problem isn't text or linked files. The problem is text styles, color palletes, hifenization exceptions and a lot of things you can't get from PDF. And you're wrong: sometimes I receive indd files. And I don't want to use Indesign anymore.
If you don't have this problem, lucky you. But, please, if this is not a problem to you, just watch.

I'm about to quit using Macs, because they became so expensive I can't afford buying one anymore. In Brazil, take the Mac price and times 2 at least. That's what they cost here.
If I have no choice, I'll move to windows. But if you guys make Linux's versions, I'll buy them gladly. I already have MacOS' and Window's licenses for all three.
    Please, think about it. Thanks.

I've been trying Linux (Ubuntu) and really miss applications like Affinity's, to work professionally. GIMP helps, InkSape helps, Scribus helps but they are far from ideal, lack integration Affinity offers.
As I said, soon I'll have to quit using mac and really don't want to use Windows. I'll go to linux and if I don't have affinity there I'll do my best with these above.

Amigas were so ahead of its time!
I loved the first DTP I ever used - Page Stream.
Later I've bought quite cheap Atari ST with a colour monitor and moved to Calamus, which was stunning at the time, with a quite similar concept to Affinity Studio Link btw...
It was slower and way worse than Amiga, but way cheaper and did its job, Calamus was also available, but only in TOS emulation.
    Oh, sweet memories.

I've been a long time mac fan, but honestly I'm really starting to hate their philosophy. I already have some of the Affinity Products, and I'm writing this post on a linux computer. I'm sure other people feel how I do, and the only reason why they don't migrate to linux is because they can't access their most used design software. I know that is my case. I was forced onto a windows computer, but would gladly migrate to linux if affinity was there. I'm sure most of the people that opt for Affinity Products, are users who aren't happy with how Adobe does things, which I believe aligns with the same reason why someone would migrate to linux.  Things to note.

I couldn't "repeat" the problem. But I'm glad I could help. I'll keep posting if I find anything weird.
Anyway, thanks for this app (and Photo and Designer). You're doing a amazing job there!

We are very happy with Affinity Publisher 1.7 and are moving towards the final stages for launch, but would still urge some caution with respect to using this version for critical work as it is still possible we may have missed something that may cause you issues.
That said, please note that we aren’t done yet - we are still working through reported bugs and hope to fix as many as possible before launch. After launch we will start a new Customer Beta for those who wish to have early access to on-going updates and fixes.
We hope you enjoy the product, and as always, if you've got any problems installing or running up, please don't hesitate to post in this thread.
Any problems actually using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum.

Well, I'm really interested and anxious about data merge but, guys, let's be patient. The Affinity guys are doing a GREAT job, delivering excellent product.

I'm pretty sure they're listening to us. They said they have some other stuff to take care before. I truly believe they'll add data merge to Publisher in the due time.

I'm waiting, and testing other features they already done as much as I can. I must say I'm very happy using Publisher beta as my first app, already rebuilding some INDD files I have from scratch, testing all my workflow.
    Be patient.

Looks somehow like error propagation, since this one here too named it the other way around ...

In sofware dev we once learned painfully to not change code just by simple copy/paste, instead we tend to use better kind refactoring functionality.

I hadn't thought of locking the template. That is a good idea. I lock things in Designer all the time but just hadn't thought of doing it in publisher.

First of all, you can't have 3 equal sections / panels because it won't fold - the flap that folds in must be 1mm shorter.
The best way is to set-up landscape A4 and use guide lines to create 98mm + 99mm +100mm and 100mm + 99mm + 98mm. At least that's what I do and it's been accepted by all printers. I attach the sample file.

They told us, to add multi fold spreads in a later version of Publisher. But now, we are in beta of the initial version, so …
Additionally: Since trifolds are really common, just create one template for reuse and you are done. Placing the guides is really simply using the Guides Manager (–> "View" menu)
One more hint: Using a drawing like the attached one, placing it  into the background of your document and lock it even simplifies the creation process.

My Initial Experience With Affinity Publisher (Beta)
    My Workspace Setup:
Affinity Publisher Public Beta (v1.7.0.312) Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (2.50GHz CPU & 16GB RAM) Windows 10 64-Bit Operating System I came across Affinity Publisher by searching for software that would satisfy my requirements to complete a flyer for a new client. I had recently moved and was without my usual equipment. Using a fairly new Surface Pro 4, I realized that I needed something a bit more oriented to the task ahead of me than the software that came with the machine. Not wanting to pay an awful lot of money for something in a rush, I was fortunate to have this public beta come through during my search.

I have to say that not only am I impressed with the capabilities of Affinity Publisher in its current stage of development, but also with the level of insight and dedication to the user that has been put in to the tutorial videos available on the website. I was able to draft up several project proposals to the customer in only a few hours and quickly make modifications according to their reviews of my work. The next day I was paid for my work and the customer has a finished product that has exceeded their expectations, as well as a few bonus tweaks to the images they initially provided for use with the flyer that they may now use on their website or in other materials that promote their products.

This software is designed with the professional environment in mind and built in a way that users of any experience level should have little or no trouble getting their designs up and running.

As far as constructive criticism or suggestive feedback is concerned, I will have to put Affinity Publisher to the acid test so to speak as I have not yet come across anything that has triggered a red flag: no bugs, no missing features, no User Interface glitches or improvements and certainly no complaints. I will be sure to provide more in-depth contributions should the opportunity present itself.

I'd like to thank the developers and everyone at Serif who has made this opportunity possible for all of us. Keep up the phenomenal work!

But they never said they won't do it. Just need a little more time to do they the right way. And probably we'll be able to test it a lot before it goes to commercial. I understand I was "gifted" with the opportunity to help developing a better app. Beta testing is this, we don't have the final version, we're helping build it.
I really don't complaint about data merge lacking (or that I can't import my GBs of INDD and save a lot of work), because this is a beta version. A going work. I'm testing the best I can, trying to find holes and bugs (like the diacritics problem I have when writing in portuguese -- like typing ' and a to get "á", which is giving me " 'á " instead).
Let's wait. Be patient... This is a real pro app, able to face Indesign straight in the eyes and say "I'm better than you and a lot cheaper".

"Over a terabyte“. Think you are confusing something.
Affinity Publisher on the Mac has 1,1 GB (the application file of InDesign CC 2019 has 852 MB and 1,5 GB its application folder)
In both cases, auxiliary files (application support and so on are not considered.
