jmwellborn got a reaction from Hilltop in Frame Text Tool - Tutorial for Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher
@TrentL Your videos are wonderfully clear and really helpful! There is just one thing in this one that you might not have found. At least on MAC it is possible to Insert filler text and edit it if you go to Settings>Text and check Insert filler text as text. The default is unchecked. This option is available in Publisher, Designer, and Photo.  When this is checked, one can change fonts from word to word, split the filler text into paragraphs, experiment with tab settings, etc.  Very handy and not immediately discoverable☺️!

There are many professionals that routinely use the Affinity apps for professional caliber work -- check out the sample files included with each of them for a few examples (like the remarkable AD sample-vintage-car-by-marc-keeley or the Spotlight article showcasing his other work) or browse through the Share Your Work forum. So please do not insult them or their work by claiming Affinity is not for professionals.
Affinity may not be the right choice for you, but it is for others, both professionals & amateurs, who value it for a variety of reasons, among them what has been termed the "killer feature" of a single unified native file format, something Adobe cannot offer.

OK, so you’re a bit disappointed (sorry, ‘bit dissapointed’): we get that. But there are clearly many people who use the Affinity apps successfully in a professional environment, and they’re happy not to be shelling out a monthly fee to Adobe to achieve the desired results.

I did a fun illustration today. The original design is by the artist Laurel Burch...I love her work. I used a small JPG I downloaded as a template. Most of it was done in AD, but I did use some raster brushes in the Photo Persona, so it's not 100% vector. I also added some texture with a Lighting Filter and a Bump Map, created in Blender, which gives it a bit more variation and personality. Hope you like the final result.

Dan C, I read your statement and I like it. But I am getting lost a bit in this discussion
I posted my feedback because I liked Affinity Suite and I bought it. Not because I didn't have money to pay for Photoshop and the rest, but I thought Affinity IS BETTER than Adobe and soon it will be more important to me. It is definitely not about money. So, I thought that my feedback could be useful to make this Suite better.

I didn't know that people feel anger pro and contra (it seems to be, at least). I should have thought it because the situation is exactly the same when you look into external forums - I have no idea why. As for me, I am not a newbie, probably I am older than any of you, I got in this industry when the CorelDraw was a miracle for the people and Adobe released the second version of Photoshop. I worked and work dozens of softwares from AutoCAD to DaVinci Resolve and 3DS Max and further. This is my work and this is my hobby even after more than 30 years. I know that people like to argue on Mac and Windows, on Corel and Freehand and Illustrator and everything else - good old stufz  Nothing is changing. But there was always a thing what I didn't experienced in the past: people were not naughty on a software to each other. An old man like me appreciate it
Changing a software suite is a lot of hard work and time. Probably my suggestions weightless but I had reasons to share them. I would be happier if I read professional replies - because it IS a professional/hobbist forum. Some people brag about his/her propessionality but a pro tries convincing and explaining not kicking  But there is one important thing here: who cares about who pro and who is not? The only thing which is important: can you enjoy your job with a software or not? If you understand it, you will help everyone with pleasure and never try to convince someone that you are the Great Software Expert and the other guy is just a bum  I am a newbie here and I thought my first impressions can be useful. I am a newbie here and I would be happy to learn and understand if I misunderstand something.

I took some risk risk with Affinity. My company used Corel product for years. When I get there I managed to convince them to change Corel Suite to Adobe. And now, after 12 years I got them to change to Affinity and I am the one who tries it. I am not sure yet that it was a good move but I am confident that Affinity will be more better and I will not be disgraced  So, come on guys, help me with this  (Even if you ignore me)  My opinion that is Affinity is not completed yet but can be the Best DTP Suite on the market with a rather little effort.

    Have a nice day, everyone

You are welcome to be indifferent.
However users are not welcome to invade and disrupt this community space with direct attacks and criticisms of other users, as that is not the environment we wish to foster here on the Affinity Forums.
If you wish to do this online, I suggest finding a different website.
I encourage you to be more mindful of your own posts contents and spend less time scrutinizing others.
No user of the Affinity Forums importance exceeds another users, and where rules are broken, or threads require intervention, the Affinity team will be sure to step in and correct where necessary.
It is not our users job to shout louder than another user in the hopes of drowning them out, regardless of either users intentions or personal feelings.
If you take issue with a post or threads contents, please report the thread to the moderators and we will investigate further and take action where necessary.
As mentioned above, this is not a commune - this is a private company's website and we reserve the right to approve and remove comments as we see fit.
I personally feel that we apply these rules rather universally and do not tend to favour certain users or dissuade certain converse - though I will be the first to admit that no one person, company or website is perfect and there are likely pitfalls in which we could improve.
Again, I'm sure our team would be happy to engage in such conversation regarding these pitfalls, should reasonable thoughts be presented accurately and without malice, so that we can continue to grow and improve - but another users thread with their feedback for improvements in the Affinity apps is not the place for such discussions.
I recommend not personally concerning yourself with the demographical clientele of the Affinity apps, or the Affinity Forums.
This should only be a concern to Affinity Staff, Managers and Directors, whose job it is to market and sell the Affinity apps.
I cannot speak for other members of the company directly, but as far as I understand we are very happy with the current Affinity userbase, spanning private users, professionals, businesses and education sectors; through our dedicated Business and Education teams.
These dedicated teams have separate support and contact channels outside of the Affinity Forums, meaning most of our 'regular' licensed user base will not have any contact with these staff members and customers, or potentially lack knowledge of their very existence.
This also provides these business and education clientele a direct line of contact with our team, in order to provide feedback and improvements for the Affinity Suite.
For example, many of the recent improvements in handling CAD files and Measurement tools were implemented with help and feedback from Architecture firms directly - none of which is present here on the Affinity Forums.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, though, what of the 'non-serious' clients? Does the 'regular' user not deserve an application they enjoy using, which fulfils their needs?
Do they not deserve a friendly, community atmosphere where they can share the designs they've created, or discuss the best editing options for their family holiday photos?
As much as we cater for the professional market and have made considerable strides towards breaking requirements for subscription-based services for many of these professionals - it would be remiss to pretend that the Affinity apps are not also enjoyed and used by 'non-professionals', who pay exactly the same amount for a singular license and therefore have as much weight in the conversation when discussing their desires for the Affinity apps moving forward.
    ___
I am consciously aware that further discussions here in this thread relating to the above subjects would be in direct contradiction to my earlier request of keeping threads on topic - therefore I ask that this does not continue further here.
You are welcome to create your own thread for such discussions if you wish, provided they remain civil and at least Affinity app/Forum related, they should not be removed by our team.

Allow me to be clear: any user is welcome to post here on the Affinity forums.
We do not keep track of our users professional intents, knowledge or experiences.
We openly welcome newcomers and professionals alike to provide their personal opinions and feedback for the Affinity apps - as we are all simply users of the Affinity suite.
No user is greater than another because of their personal experiences or professional history.
Every retail customer pays the same amount for an Affinity license, and therefore all are equal users, who all have the equal right to voice their thoughts and feelings when using the Affinity apps.
I ask that you stop insinuating, or directly referring to other users experiences, knowledge or professional qualities. This is not for you to judge here on the Affinity Forums, and should not minimise or belittle another users wishes or intents for the Affinity apps.
This forum is not a commune, it is a website owned by a private company, where the Affinity team controls the rules by which you all must abide.
If you do not like following our rules, we ask that you do not post to the forums. Continued or flagrant breaking of these rules will result in forum membership being terminated.
Much akin to other users, we welcome your feedback and criticism of the Affinity apps.
We do not welcome direct criticism of other users, or of their personal feedback.
It is not for our users to decide what is right or wrong for other users to post, or suggest for the Affinity apps - though of course you are welcome to voice your disagreement with their suggestions, should it negatively impact your workflow or if other potential options may improve their original idea, for example.
We are not looking to create an exclusionary, homogenous group - but we are looking to create a safe space for all Affinity users.
This thread was started by a relatively new user to the forums, who has every right to share their feedback when using the Affinity apps, and request changes they'd like to see in the app.
Personally, I feel Erno is deserved of an apology - as their thread was overtaken with discussions not related to their feedback, partly not even directly related to the Affinity apps themselves.
I'm sorry that after sharing their feedback and engaging with other users about their workflows, that the thread was overrun with such negativity and personal criticisms.
This is not what the Affinity forums are designed for, and will not be tolerated further.
Again, this is not to say that criticism of the Affinity apps is not valid or welcome here, but we do ask that the criticism remains constructive and threads remain on-topic.
If you wish to discuss the hiring practices of the Affinity team, the design decisions made by the developers or our marketing teams campaigns for how the app is sold - then you should begin your own thread on the subject.
Other users, and the Affinity team, may even be willing to engage in conversation regarding your points raised.
Brigading on another users thread, not related to the above meta commentary, is unhelpful and in my opinion leaves a bad impression on the original poster of the feedback/question - who likely wanted to provide their valued feedback to help improve the Affinity apps, and not much more.
This bad impression might not only cause this user not to return to the forums, but also may dissuade users from posting in the future - neither of which is acceptable in my opinion.
This is why we ask that threads are kept on-topic, so that the user is free to discuss the points they wanted to raise with the Affinity team, or other forum members, in a relaxed and safe environment.
The above does not only go for this thread, or you as a user.
Many threads here on the forums have begun trending in a similar direction as this one, so I wish to make the above very clear to all users of the Forums, new and old.

That's how it always is here - if someone dares to disagree with the eternal critics of Affinity products (supposedly for the sake of improvement, but even a small child will understand over time that constantly repeating the same thing over and over again does not contribute to anything - it's also in the forum rules), so he is ridiculed ("This is the joke of the day") and labeled as an "amateur". That's why it's best to leave these "professionals" (as they say about themselves, which in itself says a lot about them), and exactly as you write, better not to get involved in fruitless discussions. Unfortunately, this creates the impression - that absolutely all users complain, but I assume that Serif approaches this with a sufficient distance.
