Wosven got a reaction from dannyg9 in Skin Art Magazine 177
A really nice issue, text is readable without effects like strokes or shadows.
Felicitations

Yes this is a complication. Although personally I would never engage in such tomfoolery.

Wosven reacted to k_au in Indicate type of colour swatches (RGB, CMYK, ...) in palettes
One little thing that might enhance usability would be to add some indicator with every colour swatch to show what kind of colour it is (CMYK, RGB, Greyscale, Spot).
This could be a small symbol like in the Adobe products, or a letter or short word. It should be visible in the list view, there's enough space for something like that. In the compact view I don't see a way to add this info, except for the tooltip.
Also, I would love to be able to see the (current) numeric values of swatches more easily. A swatch should show these after their name, maybe in parentheses, or italics: "Logo Red (CMYK 0-80-40-10)" or "Logo Red CMYK 0-80-40-10". If the swatch doesn't have a name, the current values could be shown on their own.
Showing the numeric values does of course solve the issue of not knowing if a swatch is RGB or CMYK, so that no other indicator would be needed.
A related issue is #77313 Color Numeric Value in Swatches, but if I understand that correctly, it deals with the CMYK/RGB approximations of Library Spot colours.

Wosven reacted to kenmcd in Affinity Publisher: Bad PDF export on Small caps
When sub-setting is On the PDFlib does not properly create the ToUnicode table in the the PDF (it is all zeros IIRC).
The ToUnicode table is how the characters/glyphs are connected to their Unicode code points in the PDF.
When sub-setting is Off the PDFlib does properly create the ToUnicode table so it works correctly.
I have looked at PDFs created by other apps which do properly create the ToUnicode table with sub-setting On.
So it is possible, and appears to be a bug in PDFlib/APub.

Wosven reacted to A_B_C in PDF Export Reverses Page Order
From a technical point of view, you are very right, Dave. But from a user’s perspective things look a bit different, in my opinion. The Layers panel presents itself as a list, and according to all customs and conventions, it seems natural not to look at the bottom of a list to find the first item on the list. I am quite sure that nobody reads a list from bottom to top, regardless of the technical aspects that might underlie the creation of it … so the confusion is all too understandable … ;)
Never mind, the implementation of a Pages panel should solve this problem … :)
Cheers, Alex

Wosven reacted to retrograde in PDF Export Reverses Page Order
August 2021.
A quick fix to this would be a dropdown in the layers panel to reverse the order of all artboards. I had to do this today manually because my pdf export came out reversed to what I was expecting.
Or a preference to choose how when you create a new artboard if it is placed below or above the previous artboard.
Also as a side note, when duplicating an artboard it would be handy if Affinity would append a different name and move the duplicated artboard. Currently it keeps the exact same name and adds the duplicated artboard directly on top of the original. This is just asking for problems imo.

Wosven reacted to Alfred Beschle in Missing feateure in text styles
Ever since I came across Affinity suite I was quite impressed about the features and, above all, the performance and the speed. Working on a book project with a dozen different files which will only later be put together I miss a feature in text styles: In both Quark XPress and Indesgin if a text style in use will be deleted I will be asked if I want to replace it by a different one. This seems not possible in Publisher! Without warning it will be deleted and then I have to find which Text boxes are affected.
Have you considered of implementing this advantages into future updates? If so, I guess I wouldn't be the only one who'd be lucky about that…
Regards Alfred

Wosven reacted to Deadbyxmas in Affinity illustrations and experiments
So, going back to the various visual development studies - a study I did based on Japanese director Sion Sono's work (in particular Tokyo Vampire Hotel) had a big role in learning and adding new tricks in my sleeve.
I will share a couple to start with, thank you for watching and feel free to let me know what you think or ask any questions!

Wosven got a reaction from SPaceBar in Exported jpg from Affinity Photo turning black after a few seconds
That's strange... It looks like a CMYK image converted to RGB by an app not understanding it's CMYK (and only converting the 3 first channels).
It happened long ago went sending CMYK images on a web gallery accepting only RGB.

Wosven reacted to Kasper-V in Vintage-style petrol can
As usual, I made this for no good reason*. (Who needs a good reason to work with Affinity anyway?) Maybe I've watched to many of those TV shows where they find old junk and clean it up to make money. Whatever; this was made entirely from vectors apart from two jpeg textures applied to the can and one more to the cap.
* I just wanted to play with the lettering, and the can seemed a good vehicle for it. But if a job's worth doing . . .

Wosven reacted to StuartRc in Vector Texture Toolkit: Ammonite II
Vector Texture Toolkit II: Ammonite II
Ammonite II background texture tool to create textured backgrounds using only vector elements.
As Rock Monster World Toolkit but with different vector elements! Same Procedure
Used in the background of Ammonite II
Contents
The Toolkit contains various elements to allow for the construction textured backgrounds using vectors but some aspects will need to be refined independently according to requirements (Size for instance!)
A. A set of simple styles that define transparency
B. Set of vectors (These are contained on a separate artboard)
C. A set of vector assets sub-dividend into 4 categories. (I was a bit concerned about the number of nodes here!...as their are compound paths included!)
D. A layout artboard with containing mask
E. An artboard containing irregular vector shapes. (and some textured compounds!)...does not reflect exactly the assets panel!
It will require a bit of experimentation to create what you need..
Export as bitmaps or Multiple artboard file to be re-imported to other files using the place tool
There are some 'basic' instructions included in the file
Sample images as below:

This option is only available on macOS. It should be removed from the Help file on Windows.
Thanks for raising this up.

Hi @Sogaman
If you're searching "Photoshop", you won't find it, since it's called "Affinity Photo". Perhaps it's as simple as this.

Wosven reacted to StrawHousePig in Auto Correct preference for Capitalize New Line
So I can turn it off. 😛
There is a preference to capitalize new sentences, however, and although I realize this software is geared toward article writing as much as layout, for layout a new line does not mean a new sentence.
Just one of the things I tend to forget. I do appreciate "\.[space]+?[[:alnum:]]" being capped, though.

Wosven reacted to SS Gilbert in Affinity CMYK gives me the wrong colors
WAIT - found a workaround!! I created a composite file to scale, with both images, used the color picker and voila! The colors matched.
I was able to copy and place that layer into the correct file.
Thank you all for your suggestions. Love this forum!

Wosven reacted to EdSA in NATURE
Thank you very much for the very kind words. I worked for a newspaper and most of my works there were done in a rush. I'm also new to Affinity and was surprised about how Serif is bringing vector to a new level. Very impressed. I'm more than ten years behind in vector art since leaving the newsroom in 2011. Thanks again.

Be careful with that, if you've got copy as SVG enabled in the preference, or for different reason, your new document using this method can be at a different resolution.
