Deadbyxmas
Hi all, my name is Robert (aka Deadbyxmas!), I'm an illustrator, animator etc and by accident I bumped into Affinity Designer a couple of weeks ago (I was probably googling around for alternatives to Ai....don't we all), tried the demo (in between paid jobs...hmm) and then, once I had a better idea of its workflow, bought it and got cracking with a few sketches and ideas. As usual I tend to explore new software by trial and accident, without tutorials and stuff, so probably I'm still overlooking a lot of its features - I noticed that every time I use it I find a better way around things etc. - but I thought I'd share with you some of my first experiments. Actually I'm not sure what I can share or not here - there is a pic that is proving quite popular on another social site, but is slightly (veeeeeery slightly, I wouldn't even consider it so) risquè, so you tell me - I can direct you to the external link. In the meantime here's my first (nearly) full illustratration done entirely in AD, included the texture masking. best! r. penwiper
Oh, I like the textures on this quite a bit! Excellent job there, your character is lovely and I like the torn jeans also. One critique: I might raise the trees (bushes?) a little bit in the middle so there is not that white-ish contrasting area underneath her crotch which I find a bit distracting and not in a good way. I think that simple correction would make this a top-notch illustration. Also, not necessary, but might make a good addition: a bra strap sliding off one shoulder. Normally unless they're pinned to the overall's straps or they're VERY tight you can see them, esp. since the neckline of her t-shirt is so low. Good job, thanks for sharing! Deadbyxmas
Thank you everybody, I'm really overwhelmed and really happy you like it, as I'm enjoying the software very much so far, and finding a lot of nifty tricks to do things and experimenting with its features (for instance now I'm loving the shape add, subtract, intersect etc., as well as finding creative uses for the effects) Yes, I've always loved a good use of textures, especially on superflat illustrations, the contrast works well in my opinion. I've downloaded the Photo beta as well, and I'll be looking forward to seeing how to integrate the two programs. Anyway, I thank you all again, and a quick reply to penwiper: I tried raising the bush/tree (actually bush!), at first I wasn't sure but after letting it "rest" (i.e. not looking at it for a while) I think you might have a point - I'm adding the result. As for the bra strap....I had thought of it, and a certain point I was adding it, but for some reason it didn't work...hmm, strange, because it's one of those small things I love doing - certainly in one of the next ones it will pop up! Anyway, besides the amended first pic, I'll share also a pic of my sketchbook pencil sketches, when I was first trying AD out, and understanding what kind of approach would work the best - you might recognize the sketch of this first pic! And thank you MEB for the guidelines, as I thought and pretty sensible in my opinion....so here's the (Tumblr) link to the veeeeeery slightly risquè (yes, half a breast) pic: http://maelovehotel.tumblr.com/post/110467177083/the-tee-batgirl-2015 best r. penwiper, sorin.jurcut and Kasper-V 3 Quote More frequent updates on instagram https://www.instagram.com/maeharrington_deadbyxmas/ Official website http://www.deadbyxmas.com/

Deadbyxmas
Hi all, as I've been quite taken by various jobs I haven't posted here for a while Besides being invaluable for everyday commissioned jobs (e.g. quickly creating assets to be used in Flash animations), at the time I did a couple of more illustrations in Affinity which I haven't shared yet (I was kind of reminded by the fact that I'm doing a new - slightly more elaborate - one at the moment) Here you go, back for more soon r.
