Rick G got a reaction from emmrecs01 in Very Dissapointed - StudioLink Lacks Full Features of Designer & Photo
Can everyone stop for a minute and catch our collective breath? This seems to be all over a misunderstanding of Studio link and has mushroomed into the current nastiness
Most of us don't have the impression that Serif tried to "fool" us. The suggestion that you can get a refund is not unwarranted The root seems to be that someone had conceived and expectation that was higher than the software was designed to deliver. Rather than giving up on Publisher, try using it as designed. Do you major art work in the proper programs then if you have to adjust a node or remove a pimple from a nose while doing page layout, use the studio link within Publisher for the minor fixes. You might just find that studio link is a slick time saver
But if this is not the program for you, get the refund and go back to what does work for you (and I say that with no rancor) Publisher is still clawing it's way into the market. However it is rising quickly and many of us agree that it may be worth the wait
But seriously, lets all calm down. As @ErrkaPetti said, this is just a piece of software

I did that for the video. It does not help

Which contradicts my previous statement. There is a uac warning but the modal window doesn't seem to appear on the screen recording (?)
Ok back to the drawing board

No UAC prompts at all. I will make a video later today or tomorrow

Rick G reacted to MCFC_4Heatons in Very Dissapointed - StudioLink Lacks Full Features of Designer & Photo
How would that work? You need registered versions of Photo and Designer for the the Design & Photo personas to work inside Publisher. We already had licensed copies of Photo and Designer, we bought Publisher purely for bringing the features of Photo and Designer into one single app. Unfortunately we were wrongly under the impression all features of Designer & Photo would be integrated which is not the case .....
Your profile says you're an advanced member ???
Some of the so-called advanced members on here seem to be leading a culture of attacking people on the forums who dare critise any aspect of Affinity software. Questioning how and why is how we improve things.

I don't think MCFC_4Heatons has said that. They already own Designer and Photo. They were hoping that Publisher would give them the integration into a single application, given they own all three.

Rick G got a reaction from Wosven in Very Dissapointed - StudioLink Lacks Full Features of Designer & Photo
I think the idea is to do all the heavy lifting in Photo and designer and then use studio link for tweaking as needed. The Publisher interface is not really set up to do the major design work of Photo and Designer

Rick G got a reaction from debraspicher in Very Dissapointed - StudioLink Lacks Full Features of Designer & Photo
See what @haakoo said then "major design work of Photo and Designer" (why did I know Someone was going to call me on that?)
If you have a Graphic or digital art, build them in the appropriate program(s). Publisher being a page layout program is less suited to building 40 layers of adjustments for your photo than is ... Photo. Studio link adds a better than expected set of tools for doing more than just simple tweaks but if you need more you should probably EDIT IN PHOTO / DESIGNER
Trying to do the major lifting of photo within Publisher is akin to building a spreadsheet in Word. Yes it CAN be done but it is not the right tool for the job
Sorry if I was unclear

Rick G reacted to Fixx in Affinity Publisher: feature "soft edge" (newbie)
One way is to add mask to image and Refine Mask, adding Feather in that dialog
It would be nice to have direct Layer Effect for it..
-
Rick G reacted to MikeW in Print files not reliable
Any reason the text is not on a higher layer or stacking order? I cannot tell whether there is a reason from the screen shot. As a general rule, I always have text at the top...unless there is a reason not to.

I use that cat shape now and again. I am still fascinated by the way you made the layers available in a JPG
Thanks

Rick G got a reaction from Murfee in Clipping Path Support
Wow. I learn something every day. Thanks.
I see the cat unclipped inXnView but when I load it into AP it loads correctly with layers available.
PS I have a cat that looks like yours
PPS I am stealing the pic, shamelessly I might add

That’s too funny. Thanks for sharing, Rick!
A true incentive for Serif for adding color font support!

Rick G reacted to Distill7 in Question: Image after chapter heading - best way?
I also need this effect done. Here what I do:
- I put put the first text frame on page 1 and autoflow the text. It's not part of the master page.
- I set the chapter title/heading to start on new/odd page with space after/before.
- I create a new master page with the appropriate image placement.
- I format the whole book first, usually at the last step before exporting, I apply the master page to the chapters so I don't have any problems if pages change order.
- To select them faster, I open the find/replace panel and the pages panel next to each other. In the find/replace panel I search for chapter paragraph style, I select the results one by one and each time the corresponding page is shown the bottom of the page panel, I Ctrl+left mouse click to select them all, the on one of them, right mouse click => apply master page...
If done correctly, this can take like 1 minute for 10 chapters. This is the fastest method I can think of that'll allow you to change the object or it's size.
I have made a request to automatically apply a certain master page when a certain paragraph style is present on a page.
