Hi there!
I just wanted to share a list of Free for Commercial Use Fonts. This is a curated[*] list of some of the best freely available Fonts out there. The criteria I had in order to come up with this list:
They have to be either Free or Open Source Fonts.
They can be used in commercial projects (some restrictions may vary from Font to Font, so be sure to read first). I made my best to ensure this point, but I could be wrong and I'd be more that happy if you let me know if I made a mistake.
No attribution required.
In some cases (Serif and Sans Serif), they have to have more than two weights (at least one italic included).
Support for Spanish characters like Á, Ü, ¿¡!?, Ññ (since I speak Spanish, this was mandatory, but there are many more good Fonts that don't cover this criteria).
[*] I have basic knowledge about typography, but I have read reviews from well educated people in order to ensure quality.
Well, here it is the list. As you can see, they are grouped by classification, and a general one in that regard. Some of the Serif and Sans Serif fonts were included in "Headlines" because they had one weight or they had no italics/oblique.
[UPDATE] Added notes on some cases, like what the Font can be an alternative of.
[UPDATE] Added the number of Fonts.
[UPDATE] Adding previews of the fonts... eventhough some of them won't look as good, but it will help before clicking on a link.
[UPDATE] Where possible, I added a link to real life examples linking to Fonts In Use, for inspiration.

Noto Serif Display - Google Fonts
Hey chrisk,
any new information on this topic?
Yesterday I contacted FontBase and asked if they got any plans for including Affinity products in their range, especially for the auto-activation. They said they have it on their roadmap – so that’s good news!
FontBase may be an alternative to be considered. Basic functions are free, but auto-activating and advanced features come with either a subscription model or a one-time-purchase for three machines (Mac/Win) – also I’d say right now it’s way more affordable compared to FontExplorer, though it lacks some comprehensive options.
FontBase.mp4
Now the important question that remains is: What are the requirements to get this to work with Affinity products?
I guess plugin-support is a must, but right this moment I can't remember/check if Publisher and Designer have plugin-support at this time …
Greetings
MrDoodlezz
Hey guys, hey Mithferion!
Thanks for putting these together, it's quite the collection!
Not sure if everyone is familiar with it, but just yesterday I posted about FontBase in another thread.
FontBase is a basic font-management software wich offers a free version.
One cool thing I noticed is that right from the start it has the Google font library linked into it's code
or something like that, so you can activate them without even visiting the side.
I thought that's pretty clever!
Besides that, with a growing library like this you might want to organize the fonts more specific maybe
by topic, different projects, names or groups. Or maybe you don't need all the bazillion fonts activated
at the same time which may slow down you machine and is pretty distracting.
Well, I just thought I'd leave this here – try it, it's free!
I've long been a fan of orange crate art, and hope to be able to create something like this at some point. It's really this flat-color look that got me inspired this morning.
It's nothing clever and the polygon fad might have passed but it was fun to do. Most use a very low polygon count and just something like a face but I like to make it more complicated for myself, not necessarily better though. I had already done a version but wasn't happy with it so this is my new attempt.
A tip is to duplicate the layer(s) and perhaps add a tiny bit of blur to the background copy. That fills in the minute gaps between the shapes and the output's much nicer.
Click on it then click "full size" and it's not so blurry.
I've been working on this for a few months and is the most complicated drawing I've done so far. I had thought about doing it before but knew it would be a ton of work, in reality it was about 10 tons, seemed never ending.
I decided to just do the front half to better show off the engine but I could re-use much of it if I ever wanted to do the whole car. As before it's just the pen tool, gradients, blurs and blend modes, so anyone could do it.
Hope you like.
As usual click to open, then click to display full size (although the actual output's a lot, lot larger).
Finished this to a satisfactory level. Painted on a budget HP laptop that cost me £350. A3 processor and 8GB RAM. Hat's off to the developers.

Affinity Online Help
Hello all, we're happy to be able to offer you an online version of the in-app help!
Access Designer, Photo & Publisher Help here: https://affinity.help
Here are some of the additional features we're able to implement as a result of having proper browser support:
Dynamic language switching: The help will determine your language and (if it's available) serve you a localised copy of the help. If you prefer to read in another language, however, you'll find a combo box at the bottom left which will enable you to change languages—and stay on the page you're currently reading.
Print: Sounds simple, but with full browser support we can now implement printing of the topic pages. The print icon in the bottom left will give you a nicely formatted printout of the current topic.
Share: Clicking the clipboard icon will copy the current topic's URL to your clipboard, which means you can easily point other people towards topics that may help them.
Responsive: The help was responsive anyway, including off-canvas menu functionality so you could collapse the window and still read a topic, but this is taken further in this version of the help. The help is formatted nicely and usable even on a 4" iPhone SE screen.
Search: we've implemented our own bespoke search for the online help which is fast and accurate. Access it via the tab system along the top left.
Favourites: you can add topics to your favourites list to easily access them during future browser sessions. Simply click the + (plus) icon next to the "Favourites" tab to add the current topic.
With this online version you'll be able to print out topics and view them on your tablets/phones, which are two of the most common requests when it comes to help feedback.
As always, if you have any feedback or find any issues with this online version, please let us know! Hope you find it useful.

Both AD and AP have effects. Access is from a tab usually associated with the layers panel. Once an object has been set up with bevels, bit map fills, etc, it can be saved as a style. Looking at your screen cap, I note that PS has an effect, called style in PS, that doesn't exist in Affinity, namely "satin." So I suppose that bringing PS Layer Styles would necessitate Serif re-creating PS styles, and interpreting them as implemented in Affinity.
There have been comments that Affinity only implements other program's features when those features are published as an open standard, not a proprietary one.
I used this palette a lot so I decided to make an Afiinity version and share it if other people are interested
Have fun with the color :)

I recently bought the Affinity Designer Workbook and have really been enjoying the practical examples and working my way through it. Just a minor error that I'm not sure has been reported or not (I don't have Facebook or Twitter to contact directly so posting on here) but I noticed a formatting error on page 109 - half of the words at the start of each line seems to be cut off a bit. I included a screenshot below.
I have to say that the book is excellent so far, I've always found most design software to be quite intimidating and time consuming to learn but the workbook is getting me to grips with the software really quick and it's been surprisingly intuitive to use. If I notice anything else as I work through the book, I'll use this thread to continue posting.
Here is a clean template to make a mandala in a super simple way.
Just open the file, select the layer "Draw the Mandala here", start to draw and have fun !

Maybe I was being overly harsh but , yes , it was the lack of responsiveness and also the vast amount of bespoke code that was produced that made it hard work to play with outside of WebPlus. It did work perfectly well within its limitations and provided a quick and easy way to produce static sites. However , for my purposes, I kept returning to Drupal and , once it had evolved, WordPress, in order to properly manage the database design , create themes and develop plugins. These open source solutions had their own issues, and Drupal in particular had quite a steep learning curve, but I didn't get the same frustration that WebPlus induced in me. Perhaps it's because I had been a programmer for over 20 years and used to rummaging around under the hood, so to speak.
Scottish lass here. (Affinity on Windows 7). An absolute pleasure to meet the Affinity team, users and forum members.
My apologies in advance for the long post but I thought to just let it all out from the start!
I'm an artist in the traditional sense i.e. I use a real brush, messy paint and real canvas etc. I use software as a tool but am in no way a digital artist!
Some years ago I used Adobe Photoshop (CS3 at last count I think). PhotoShop is the undisputed leader in the field, but my requirements and gained knowledge didn't even touch the sides of PS's capabilities. Wasted on me to be honest. Anyway, the bloat and high cost demanded by Photoshop, especially nowadays, make it a non-contender for me.
I do some photo-editing and have always wanted to learn vector art. Over the years I tried various editors and found Serif software best for my average needs. Being a Serif customer, Affinity found me thru Serif promotions. I really liked what I saw and am now proud owner of both Photo and Designer! I was also able to purchase at a great price, the gorgeous Affinity Designer workbook (what a beautiful thing!) . From that moment I made a promise to myself - to forget about the rest and concentrate on my Affinity.
I also have an electronic cutting machine - a shape-cutting tool for making stencils, etching, engraving, embossing and more. Incredibly productive for art & crafts, scrap-booking, card-making etc - if I can make it work! ;o) (Another promise to myself!)
The good thing is that it seems Affinity Designer and the cutting machine can work together...
In order to utilise the cutter's capabilities, vector software is a must. The software supplied with the machine is meant to design (allegedly) then send the vectorised design to the machine for cutting. But it's pretty basic, not a true design software imho. Adobe Illustrator (big and expensive) and Inkscape (highly-rated free draw/vector software) are the most popular apps for this purpose so far. (Tried Inkscape but don't really feel comfortable with it. A personal thing, nothing against the software.) However, Affinity Designer is creeping into the craft scene, so I know it must do the job! I will also contact these users for advice. I intend to create my own simple and detailed/intricate designs as stencils.
Does anyone have experience using Affinity software to prepare artwork for machine cutting (say, a stencil)?
Some may say 'Read the book!'. I am in the process of doing so, but with 432+ pages, some pointers would be extremely helpful coz I really don't know where to start!
So, a huge 'thanks' in advance to those who will take the time to offer assistance: I look forward to your response.
And thanks so much for reading.
Just wanted to share my version of a Vincent Van Gogh sketch of Sien Hoornik titled "Sorrow". I saw this sketch somewhere and I thought that I should make a coloured version of it. It is a rather simple sketch but it was very difficult to get it looking just right, especially the colours. I redrew this numerous times trying to get it to look a certain way and this is the one that I settled on (although it isn't quite as I had pictured it in my mind but it is close). The hair was the worst part and it still isn't quite to my liking but it is going to have to do as I got tired of it and decided to move on to something else. I hope that you enjoy.
