PaulEC got a reaction from Oufti in Deleted Master Page
Just a thought, but are you working with the original file, or have you opened a PDF version that you previously exported as spreads?

PaulEC reacted to DutchieOnABudget in Solar Eclipse Image Processing w/ Photos
Hello All,
Thank you for the feedback, but has ANY of you had a chance yet to experiment with the editing of the corona shots in Affinity Photo?
So, the best detail I have managed to "concoct" out of my RAW editor (Capture One Pro), is the attached image.
Haven't even tried to improve on that in any other editor (Affinity Photo or any other ones...), to see if I can get more out of it, like the Russell Brown versions.
I know there is much more potential in it than this...
I just can't seem to get more out of it right now.
I have also added couple composites I tried my hand on.
Anyway, very interested in seeing all-a-y'all's efforts...
Thank again, Eric

PaulEC reacted to Brian_J in Export Publiser document to .afpub
Something I found useful in Adobe apps was the Duplicate file option. Duplicating a file presents a dialog with the original file name appended with “copy” — so there’s no chance of accidentally overwriting the original — and the option to change the file name. Duplicating a file keeps the original open and the duplicate can be saved or experimented with and closed without saving.

You can place af~files and use the embed function to add all the pages to your new file>double click to open it in a new tab and delete the unwanted pages.
You can also save as af~file and use the add pages from file(publisher only) to choose which pages need to be added to your new file.
You can also export as aftemplate which is essentially an af~file and you can create a new file based upon this template.
You can also rename the aftemplate to af~ (at least in explorer on windows) and it will open as a regular file.
Just some options to explore.

The Export function is specifically for creating files in non-native formats. I can foresee export to *.af* causing nothing but confusion.
Isn’t it just as easy to go back to the master copy, delete the correct pages, and ‘Save As…’ again?

PaulEC reacted to Insider in My „must have” list, if met in V2, will make me stay on this boat.
I can no longer believe in significant improvements, so I've switched to Pixelmator Pro, Raw Power, VectorStyler and QuarkXPress. And on the iPad Pro Photomator, Amadine and Fresco without a subscription. All lifetime licenses and Fresco free

PaulEC reacted to walt.farrell in text on a path in AP
By the way: you seem to be using AP as the abbreviation for two applications (Photo, and Publisher). That is confusing
If one must abbreviate, APub and APu are the terms accepted by the forums (as shown by the underlining when used, and the Tooltip explanations for them).

Thanks for the mail from the support. But I'm sorry, I really haven't had a good experience now with buying the affinity software. I also had to file an objection via Paypal and ask Paypal to refund the amount, which they now want to do.
Sorry Serif. Sorry, i will not recommend you any further and will now switch to the competitor's more expensive software. Good bye.

@William Overington a great idea and $2.25 will get you a medium size drip coffee at Starbucks.
Also see: Ideas are cheap.
Can we please end this bizarrely surreal, entirely pointless thread? It would be impossible to calculate how or even if your idea had any impact on future sales as it's unlikely that 'your feature' would ship in isolation. The apps are a holistic collection of features and tools, and not broken down and valued by their constituent parts.
If/when Canva/Affinity release their SDK feel free to build your own extensions, plugins, etc and charge what you want.

Pledge 4 said nothing about paying for ideas. They're always accepted ideas. Perhaps now they'll try to implement more of them.

I have always tried not to get sucked into these types of discussions, since they are usually about as fruitful as arguing politics or religion. But, I’m a little tired tonight and I thought I’d throw my 2 cents in. William, your notion that you should be paid for merely suggesting a software feature is beyond ludicrous. I apologize if I am being rude, but arguing the fine points of the difficulty in getting paid for making a suggestion is pedantry in the extreme. The whole nature of making a suggestion is being charitable (unless you are a paid consultant, and I’ll go out on a limb and guess that you are not).
Now I have a suggestion. I think you should continue to make a series of long-winded and silly posts throughout the forum and follow up with post after post trying to decide how many angels can dance on the head of your particular pins. It would seem to me that you have two choices - you can (1) continue down the road you’ve been on for several years now (and, or course, pay me handsomely for making the suggestion), or (2) just stop (and save your money).

There is simply no reliable way to determine what any one idea is worth on its own, separate & apart from everything else. If you think otherwise please give an example of the "kind' of idea whose value somehow could be quantified independently of all else.
But this is really much simpler than that: In no meaningful sense, legally or otherwise, is it possible to own an idea. Therefore it is neither real or intellectual property & cannot be sold, licensed, given away, etc.

Sorry - I didn't realise that this was a serious suggestion!

@William Overington The only "reward" I am hoping for is that I am able to continue to use the Serif software I purchased without my license being changed to subscription.
I wish you the best in all your present and future endeavors.

Please suppose that I suggest to Affinity that there be added to the Affinity tools, a Saturn Tool. At present there is a Triangle Tool to draw a triangle, a Star Tool to draw a star, and various other tools, each of which draws a line drawing of a shape. The Saturn Tool would draw a line drawing of a simplified representation of the planet Saturn, a circle and, from mid lower left to mid upper right of the bounding box, the rings, shown open. I could also suggest a Comet Tool too. Suppose that the Affinity Team assess these ides and agree that they would be a good addition to Affinity Designer and they become implemented. It seems to me entirely reasonable to consider that Canva might send me a letter, no lawyer's jargon, no deeming of anything assigned, just a nice letter thanking me for my suggestion, saying it has been accepted and as an expression of our thanks, please find enclosed a cheque for you.
I know that that might not happen, but I consider that it is a scenario that could credibly happen and is entirely reasonable to discuss as a possibility for the future bearing in mind that Pledge 4 constructively seeks ideas from the user community and that Canva is a business and could make money from implementing those ideas.
Suppose that I suggest an additional Affinity product, Affinity Constellations. It can be sold separately, or as part of a four program bundle, the three program bundle continuing to be available. So the number sold and the revenue from selling licences for Affinity Constellations could be reliably determined. So a royalty for the suggestion could be paid based on that number and that revenue as Canva decided would be fair. Affinity Constellations would allow entry from the other Affinity programs so as to access toolboxes with three tools for each constellatiion from The Little Bear to the Southern Cross, a simple line illustration accurately showing the stars in that constellation, a version of that augmented with a line drawing showing the supposed image, for example, Pegasus as a winged horse, and a version of each such image in full colour. It is a matter for Affinity management to decide whether they like that idea, but if they do and it gets implemented and there are lots of sales of licences then it seems reasonable to me that I receive some money as a thank you for suggesting the idea.
William

PaulEC reacted to Ldina in .AFPHOTO File
@HerrBill You're welcome.
This is probably more info than you want, but here is the PSD file format spec by Adobe. They mention that PSD is a proprietary format, and the spec doesn't cover how information in the file is interpreted (on purpose...they keep this secret), so anyone without a paid license from Adobe ($$$) would have to reverse engineer much of what's inside a PSD file, and hope it works properly. That can be hit and miss, especially if Adobe adds new features or changes things in the format over time. The first few paragraphs of the spec are all I wanted to read, but they make it pretty clear.
https://www.adobe.com/devnet-apps/photoshop/fileformatashtml/
Companies do this for a few reasons. First, they need a file format that fully understands ALL the features their software is capable of encoding. Second, they want to keep it secret so you are forced to use their software to access all the features and edit the PSD file. If they're too restrictive, the file format will not gain wide acceptance. If it's fully disclosed, people will not buy their software, especially if they can find a less expensive alternative that works well with their file format. Since Adobe's been around SO long and have been involved in the graphic arts and printing industry since the beginning, PSD is in very wide usage. AfPhoto file format is designed to understand Affinity Photo's code and support all its features. Photoshop is not capable of reading or properly handling all of the features that Affinity can encode, so it works both ways.
Fortunately, there are standardized file formats available that are fully specified and available to all, otherwise interchange of information would be a real nightmare.

PaulEC got a reaction from Alfred in PLEASE READ THIS: Sharing Guidelines
I don't particularly wish to discuss this yet again! You posted in this thread, mentioning a picture in your second post here!
As far as your first post here goes I think Alfred made it clear, it is "Share your work", (not just pictures) using Affinity software. so I can't see any reason why it should not include Publisher. There are people who share posters, flyers and so on, but images probably tend to lend themselves more to sharing than do text based items. I would think that there would be no problem with sharing a particularly well produced booklet or other document, that showed good use of Publisher. However, I doubt if simply pasting a bit of text you generated with AI into a document would be considered sharing your work, or a significant use of Affinity software!
