Splash screen is not important! I don't work with it or can't make pages with it. So, in short: nothing to worry about.

I'd like to know about any progress here too. I've been using Illustrator since Version 3 and this action is essential to my workflow.
For now, if basic node actions don't work like I'm used to, for the time being, I see no other way than going back to Illustrator.

PaulEC reacted to R C-R in Publisher: How to create a trifold brochure?
I am probably missing something obvious, but since this document is going to be printed to a single sheet anyway, what is the benefit of creating it with multiple pages that have to be aligned to properly cover the sheet?

I've never managed to get the free version working properly in AP (although the 32 bit version works fine in PhotoPlus!).
I was thinking of purchasing the DxO version, but, reading the comments, I think I'll give it a miss.
I don't suppose there's any chance that Serif could get together with DxO to produce an AP optimised version!

PaulEC reacted to Alfred in Suggestion: Write a short guide for new features when they first come out
That’s a great idea, Garry! Someone must have written a spec for the new features, and extracting the main points to provide testers with a summary shouldn’t be particularly difficult or time-consuming.

PaulEC reacted to GarryP in Suggestion: Write a short guide for new features when they first come out
It took me a while to figure out how to use (at a basic level) the new construction features - piecing together bits and bobs from different (Mac version) posts - and the new Isometric features are not easy for me to understand as I've not used that sort of thing before.
Would it be possible for someone to write a small - pinned - thread somewhere that would tell people how the new features should work? It's difficult to know if something is working right - or if you're using it right - if you don't know what it's supposed to be for or how it's supposed to work. It doesn't have to be perfect or lengthy, just a nudge in a few good directions would be enough to get people started.
I realise that this will all come in the Help in time, but some early adopters may find it very useful to know what the official line is rather than maybe picking up the wrong idea from disparate posts by other users (who may not know all of the details, especially early on).

    Hi @jlhopes
CTRL+click on the image. This selects the image and you can move and resize it to your liking.

Click on the picture frame. On the toolbar at the far right end you see a checkbox called 'Lock Children'. Enable it. Now you can resize the picture frame without changing the size of the image.

Just because you have learned how to do it in InDesign does not neccessarily make it intuitive. You just know how to do it. In APub we all have to learn some things new. Me too

Is there any way we can get a more in depth explanation of new features when they are introduced. I feel this is always lacking with Serif. I am excited to know how use the new brush engine but all we get is a short overview in the notes. I'm lost and I can't see where the new features are located.

Classroom work for layout is usually judged by the result in the native application—PDFs can hide a bunch of errors in how one constructed a file. PDFs are only a standard for print, not how one got there.
Like it or not, whatever layout application is permitted for classroom work is the standard for the class. But in the real world, ID is the most used application for layout and by whatever measure makes it the standard. Some schools do use different layout applications and some allow a variety. But if the class requisite is ID, then nothing else would be acceptable to check the course work.
If I was teaching a class on final output for print, I would list acceptable applications for creating those final PDFs and I would check each one for the creator string and would flat out reject PDFs not made with those acceptable applications if the student did not seek an exception. If a student could not follow those instructions then they at least fail that part of the class. If a student cannot follow class instructions, that indicates how well they can follow instructions in the real world, which is part of what they are learning in class.

It would be really useful if it were possible to add a Master page to the top of the stack on all pages, rather than having to drag it there on each page individually.

This seems a rather serious omission for software which is supposed to open and edit PDF files!

I think this is a really important point. I'm quite prepared to spend time learning how to use new software. But, at the end of the day, it is just a tool to get the job done. I don't want software to be like a game, where I have to find hidden tools and spend endless time working out how to do something, because it's not documented and I'm expected to keep playing around until I can work it out.

To be honest I can't see much use for this. In my (moderate) experience, if you send the job to a commercial printer, they handle the imposition. If you need to print booklets on a local printer/mfd (with a booklet finisher), it's own driver will handle the imposition.
I've had problems in the past when the originator of a document has "helpfully" imposed the pages and I've had to re-arrange them so that the booklet actually prints correctly!

I really don't understand the problem with using old software, as long as it works well and continues to do the job you need it to do.
Personally I wouldn't touch MS Publisher with a barge pole! I'd go with Bad_Wolf – Keep using PagePlus for old projects and gradually move over to Affinity Publisher for new work.

It's worth pointing out that importing text as text doesn't always work anyway! (It seems to depend on the version of Photoshop used.)
Alfred makes a very good point. Importing text as a pixel layer keeps the image exactly the same as the original (which is what I normally want). If you want to "edit" the text, you can just delete that layer and add a new text layer. If there's so much text that re-doing it is a problem, then perhaps using a PSD file wasn't the best choice in the first place - Photoshop (and AP come to that) isn't intended as a text editor.

If the preference item really were superfluous, there couldn’t be a ‘wrong’ default setting!
As for the assumption that most users want to keep imported text as editable text, I don’t think it’s at all safe to say that. The rationale behind importing text as bitmap by default is that it will look correct even if the user doesn’t have the correct fonts installed, and there will be no problem as long as you don’t need to edit it; if you do need to edit the text you’ll find out soon enough that it hasn’t been imported in an editable form, but if it were imported as text by default you might not notice the font substitutions.

I don't see the need for data merge. - What's the problem with manually cutting and pasting half a dozen fields from a database into four or five hundred individual documents!
(Which is what I need to do for personalised menus for a staff party.) I've got nothing better to do than sit typing for several hours, rather than just hitting a few buttons!
But, seriously, this really is an essential feature for a lot of people, for many projects. PLEASE implement it sooner rather than later.
