Besides the wish for a DAM I would be very happy about an editable graduated filter.

How would he or anyone know that? I think it would require some poling to even estimate that.
So why would anyone have knowledge of what you do or do not know or understand? Why should they? This is common practice for Beta testing, for the company to post disclaimers, warning, letting those who choose to download, install, and participate in Beta testing. I don't think it's up to Serif, Adobe, Corel, or any others to ensure you're level of understanding. If you were ignorant to these things, why in the world would you proceed? It's possible a Beta Release could totally screw up your entire system. I just completed a Private, by Invitation ONLY, Beta Testing for Corel's newly released version of VideoStudio. The last beta release even affected earlier stable versions. We (all beta testers), didn't like it, but we understand it could happen. It's brought to the attention of developers and hopefully corrected. I suggest you educate yourself a little more before you go willy-nilly downloading apps. It's going to cause you some serious headaches.
What??? Really?? I know @Mark Ingram probably does not need anyone backing him up, but I'm going to. Is it really for you to determine, or think that the way this was handled not correct? I was pleasantly surprised when I checked the forum this morning to see that only 4 mins earlier he had posted this next beta version, fixing two things. Yesterday was when the problem with the Tone Mapping was discovered and was a major, major problem since it was grabbing and not releasing memory. Maybe that is what caused him to make an immediate fix available.
The Develop issue didn't cause systems to freeze, and crash, and really hasn't been an issue very long at all. If fact I didn't experience it until the 240 Beta.  I might not have experienced if I was going through my normal workflow, passing developed RAW images from Lightroom.

Just FYI, in the next beta build there will be a fix for the wrong colour profile being assigned when developing.
And to re-iterate what people have already said - a beta is for helping us to test the software, you're experiencing the software as we develop it, bugs and all. There is a disclaimer at the top of each forum post that contains a new beta, describing this, and telling you not to use it for production purposes. If this isn't for you, then the official retail releases will be more suitable (i.e. 1.6).

Yes it is a Beta version - you TRY it out for free, if you are not prepared to tolerant a problem in a Beta version then use 1.6.
Beta phase generally begins when the software is feature complete but likely to contain a number of known or unknown bugs.[4] Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, speed or performance issues, and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release and this is typically the first time that the software is available outside of the organization that developed it. Beta version software is often useful for demonstrations and previews within an organization and to prospective customers. Wiki.

    Hi Dave,
This should be fixed in one of the next Betas (probably the next one). Please be aware that this is a Beta - we do not recommend using it for production work.

I would love a function like that to, maybe you Affinity guys can make a tutorial video on how to achieve this?
Is a tool like this in the pipeline?

    Hi everyone,

I've just uploaded a 90 page guide covering the absolute basics of Affinity Photo. If you go here https://theeagerlearner.com/ and subscribe you can download it along with the photos used in the chapters so you can follow along.

This guide could be described as the written equivalent of my Affinity Photo: 5 steps to Better Photos course over at udemy. Actually it's the first chapters of a larger book I'm writing which will be the broad equivalent of the Affinity Photo: Solid Foundations course, also at Udemy. But it will be slightly different. I may not cover all the topics from the video course but I will be including written material about using the develop persona to process RAW files, for example.

So why do this? Well, I'm aiming to sell the final book and I want people to have a clear idea of what to expect. I also think that if you are going to give something for free as a taster, you should give something good that's going to be of real use to people. It also gives you a chance to give any feedback to me here so I can match the final book to peoples hopes and wishes. So I hope it gives you plenty of useful information and I look forward to hearing any comments you may have about it.

    Cheers,
    Simon Foster

    Hi Rusty Arrow,

    Welcome to the forums.

You can use the HSL adjustment, selecting Greens on the dropdown menu and adjusting. Then switch to the Paint brush Tool and make sure the colour is set to Black and paint overs the areas to recover the colour, avoiding the greens. See this video tutorial for some more information.

In my experience, there is no need to uninstall the old beta; the new one simply replaces it, and retains any settings you have customised in the older version.

After having done a couple of test projects I must concede that the blend curve results are superior to Photoshop. I'm always open to being challenged. The team are on track, well done lads....and girls (just in case).

    Hi Tooslow

The full screen view is something that is related to the Mac OS which contains this feature. This is not part of the Windows version which is why you can find it. I've passed this on to our documentation team to get this amended

    Hello,

My daughter got for her laptop PhotoPlus and what her Papa as Photoshop users had seen was already very good, it was already the right way. Now with AffinityPhoto and Designer and next year Publisher will be a big deal.

The Serif team has already done a good thing, much success.

    Hi Geoffrey Lindop,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
No, Affinity Photo/Designer doesn't have this feature. You have to use an external app for that. Windows 10 includes an utility to capture the screen called Snipping Tool.

Hi, for me each beta gets better and better.
The WHOLE point of betas are to iron out bugs. Crashes are to be expected.
This is particularly true of Windows where no 2 system configurations are the same!

My beta test philosophy (I had 30 years in IT) is to load my machine, do a clean, switch off malware/antivirus software, disconnect extraneous hardware (wacom, special input devices, added screens, TVs on laptops etc..) THEN do a clean installation (without plugins).

I then go through most of my basic workflow to check function, process, speed. I may run PS in parallel.

I have AP video tutorials ready to run in a browser.

After my basic test I then go through every menu item and test. Then on to multi level complex layer based workflow.

When happy I add my input/output devices 1 at a time! Then restart the loop.

    I find this methodical approach identified either;
    1. That AP does a function differently from PS.
    2. A bug
    3. A feature.
    4. My input errors.
    5. Windows component issues.
    6. Hardware/Driver issues.

AP is a breath of fresh air. For me it works. I am process driven so adaptation from PS to AP is easy for me.

    Cheers ,Paul

    DarkClown,

I hear you, the latest beta is less more stable for me as well (with the first beta I hardly noticed any crash at all).
Still, some users' feedback it's actually the opposite, as it seems for them it's got more stable.

That said, I think that considering it "just" a beta is a little deceptive.
From my understanding, the work that needs to be done is more than just making Photo a stable app.
I read requests on this very forum every day, and I add mine too ;)
That means the developers on their end have to deal with adjusting current features, possibly adding new ones, and of course, make the app more stable. To me, that sounds like more than the common work for a beta product.
When at work we switched from CS6 to CC, I couldn't use PS at all. From CC to CC2014 I couldn't use AE. And that's Adobe, the big company with money, resources, and people.
And CC wasn't sold as a "beta", but as a final, ready for production, software (imagine what that means for a pipeline in a company with daily jobs to tackle and deliver). And on their list whoever in charge of the relations with the users had the ungrateful task to deal with people complaining, reporting crashes, bugs, requests, and so on so forth.
At least was personally a good test because I decided I would never switch to CC for my personal use at home (and in fact, I'm still on CS6).

As for the crash message in your screenshot, although it seems you can't track down what's causing it, when you re-open Photo it should automatically send the log to Affinity which, from my understanding, somehow should be helpful on their end.

Despite I'm getting more crashes myself, what makes me *stick* to Affinity is the philosophy behind their product (which is the reason why I bought Designer, even if some features are missing though some already on the roadmap).
After 20 years of graphic design, I can finally breath some fresh air. The approach in the workflow is similar, yet different and much more interesting.

    Just my 2 c.
