stokerg reacted to Tony Pritchard in Thank you!
Dear Affinity Community
I bought Affinity 2.0 to produce a book. I learnt the software from scratch. When I came up against issues I found it useful to post on the forum. The book is now printed and due for distribution.
Thank you Affinity and the community.

stokerg reacted to Nita Reed in V2 - Transfer of previous version content
Thank you, Serif...and Sweet Baby Jesus!
I had avoided upgrading to V2 because if I had issues with Affinity programs, bought a new laptop, etc, I would have to delete & re-install Affinity then re-install all my macros, LUTs, brushes, etc...
I just upgraded (with trepidation!) and it asked me if I wanted to transfer V1 content. I said yes & then closed & re-opened the app...everything was there! I got teary-eyed... It was an emotional moment.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

stokerg got a reaction from Bilbo Bowman in Trouble with the States feature in Affinity Photo
Hi @Bilbo Bowman,
We do have this logged with the Developers to make some improvements to how Layer States work. Currently a captured state will only update the layers that were originally captures, new layers will not be added into the captured state.
If you have any more improvements, like the Positioning to also be stored, then please post in the feedback section of the Forums here

stokerg reacted to NotMyFault in Gaps Error Between Forms
This is the unavoidable (1) effect of anti-aliasing. Whenever you have facing 2 lines running parallel, you get this.
there are many ways to deal with it:
use a backfill layer. In the example of the sole: have one curve of the full sole in dark blue, put the curve in light blue above. Having the dark blue excluding the upper light blue area creates the issue. set gamma to 1.0 to influence color blending add a curves adjustment or levels adjustment to boost semi-transparent pixels deactivate antialiasing work in higher resolution and resize exported raster images later (1) other apps may have automated measures to deal with it. Affinity apps leave it to the user.

stokerg reacted to carl123 in Linked adjustment layers do not refresh across pages
Right, figured it out whilst walking the dog
@fde101 originally reported this "bug" in the thread (below) which was about a Curves Adjustment (Not a Gradient Map)
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/218876-add-option-to-apply-adjustment-layers-like-a-gradiation-curve-to-all-pages-in-publisher/&do=findComment&comment=1290006
So, I initially looked at the issue there to see what he meant but for me it all worked OK with a Curves adjustment. When he created the bug report I thought it wise to mentioned that it works on Windows as I knew he was a Mac user, so that the Developers had more information to work with.
But in the bug report he inexplicitly changed it to a Gradient Map adjustment which I did not retest using that.
So now I'm not sure if he tested with a Curves adjustment in the other thread or used a Gradient Map adjustment in that thread too
So it may be that a Curves adjustment does not work properly on Macs but does on Windows or he (inexplicitly) tested with a Gradient Map adjustment in a thread about adding a Curves adjustment. Which also does not work properly on Windows having now tested that adjustment.
I attach a working document to show the Curves adjustment working OK
But someone would have to recreate one from scratch on a Mac to see if it works there or not

Both your document and a new one created from scratch on Mac work as expected when using a Curves Adjustment so clearly an issue with a Linked Gradient Map Adjustment...

stokerg got a reaction from paleolith in What is going on with column widths?!? [BUG, probably]
Hi @Philosoraptor - Jeff H,
I've created you a Private Dropbox link here to upload the file to
That was the key to replicating this! and on checking this issue is already logged with the Developers to resolve
I've left a link on that report so the Affinity Info Bot can update here when this has been resolved.

stokerg got a reaction from NotMyFault in Purpose of mirror toggle for segment shape?
Hi @NotMyFault,
This is a bug and is already logged with the Developers.
If you see the help file here, the Mirror function should just reverse/flip the shape.

stokerg reacted to AP- in Photo 2.5.5 incorrectly load and display a HEIC file.
Hello. The file is the PNG already included in the original post.
-
stokerg reacted to AP- in Photo 2.5.5 incorrectly load and display a HEIC file.
Thank you.
Yes I used imagemagick test2.png test2.heic
Original PNG is 16-bit.
This produces a 16-bit heic by default with -quality of 50%.
This displays correctly on Apple Quicklook.
I use feh (command line image viewer using libheic) and that displays correctly.
Loads correctly in GIMP.
Thumbnail has some green banding.
Photoshop also does not recognise the file.
I am raising it here rather than an encoding issue because Affinity is clearly doing something with the file but consistently loads it overexposed.
If I use imagemagick with -depth 10 it Affinity displays it correctly. However top bar and document ICC dialog still list the file as 32-bit.

stokerg reacted to Richard Andrews in Spider building a web on a bridge.
I was walking across a bridge in Berlin, New Hampshire, and I noticed a spider building a web. It was late in the day and the light wasn't good. I brightened and sharpened it, and adjusted the colors and contrast. I think it came out good. Looks like a giant spider descending onto the town.

stokerg got a reaction from AvdB in Affinity Designer Scanning?
Hi Emma01 and Welcome to the Forums,
There's no scanning functionality in Affinity for Windows due to poor 64-bit scan driver support. For now we suggest that you use the software that comes with your scanner and then open the scanned image in Affinity.

Create a new one page document
Use the command Document > Add Pages from File
Select your "stuck" document
See what happens
This may only import the document as it was the last time you successfully saved it but it's worth a try and does no harm to the original document
