dutchshader got a reaction from A_B_C in Is there any way to lock guides?
I realy liked the lock guides button in the beta. Why not place the button in the costumize toolbar options, if you want to use it drag it in, and if you are affraid to hit this button by accident don't drag it in. Everyone happy

C’mon guys, this discussion is getting a bit strange. There is no single professional graphic design, font design, or DTP application I am aware of that would not allow to lock guides. Some of us might still remember even these days:
Source: Desktop Publishing with Pagemaker, 1987
So as long as I can grab a guide on the canvas and move it, regardless of the currently implemented behaviour, the system will be prone to accidental changes of any sort. Just have a look at my video below. It’s not a really long way to go from rotating a shape to moving a guide.
Personally, I am in favour of a guide system that would allow to attach guides to a layer, such that we can have different sets of guide systems in the same document that can be toggled on and off. But at the very least, I fear I cannot do without a button or a menu option that would simply allow to lock my guides. I can’t see why adding such a button or menu option would be an annoyance for people who don’t want to use it. I bet there are several other options that are never used by some people.

Almost switched to Photoshop to do this but in the end APhoto was up to the job
A few bits may still need touching up but it depends what you want it for and at what size you are going to display/print it.
PS I would have preferred to carpet it, tiled floors are too cold in winter

I design and make handcrafted lampshades.
I use designer and photo to draw the lampshade layout.
And make small adds and flyers.

dutchshader reacted to VectorVonDoom in Tin Toy, Rocket Racer (AD, finished)
I've not had time to play recently but sort of do now so decided I fancied doing a couple, possibly three, of tin toy illustrations. Something a bit different than I've tried before. I was going to post an in progress version and the completed one. I'm doing them A1 size, roughly 10k pixels wide.
The first is a Rocket Racer tin toy with plastic pilot. I started with this one as there's a lot less to it than the second one and I'm a bit out of practice now. The pilot is done but the rest is just roughly flatted in. So now need do all the tweaks to the shapes, as none of the paint edges are clean in the real thing, and add all the bits of texture, highlights and shading.

when moving the rotation centre it won't snap to grid or guides.

I came in from a different angle, so instead of using the sky, I used the ducks and recoloured the image to give a better sunset effect.
Dragged the duck & sunset image into the beach scene Rasterised the duck and sunset layer Selected the ducks with the Magic selection wand and copy/pasted to a new layer then added a bit of gaussian blur because of the pixelation. deleted the duck and sunset layer Duplicated the beach scene Added a recolour adjustment layer to the beach scene and changed the Recolour Adjustment layers blend mode to Average and set the sliders to Hue: 20.3º and Saturation to 100% I duplicate the recolour adjustment layer and changed its blend mode to Colour, I kept the hue at 20.3 and dropped the saturation to 38% this intensified the colours a bit more. I added a mask and applied a gradient of white to one handle and #BC5100 the other handle I positioned the #BC5100 coloured handle half way up the beach and the white coloured handle near the horizon Job done.
