RBeci got a reaction from Amaroun in Separate FX to a layer
I'm interested too! It would be very important, for example, when exporting to PDF and a vector graphic gets rasterized because of the Layer Effect, even though it really shouldn't!

RBeci reacted to Pšenda in Transform origin usage during scaling/ resizing
Hi @NathanC, It would be good to mention this in the Help, and also fix it in the Status bar - even if Transform Origin is enabled, and resizing with the Ctrl key will be done around it, so it says "around the centre", not "around the Transform Origin".
Edit Help: it can be found there with a little searching (although it would be better to use an unambiguous label with capital letters - Transform Origin),
but some comprehensive and more detailed description of the Transform Origin switch would certainly be useful.
The current description is not very accurate.

Hi @RBeci,
Do you have access to Designer 2? The Point transform tool is capable of this, but it is a designer exclusive feature.

Amazing! It is working! Thank you so much!

In all Affinity apps on macOS, hold down cmd key while scaling. I guess that will be ctrl key on Windows. Also works with shearing.

As it's more of a vector oriented transformation tool it's an exclusive feature to Designer 2 so it's not available in Photo 2 (It's also in Publisher's Designer Persona) 🙂

Transform Origin is only for rotation.

Yes, that's how macros work.
You might try recording one that uses Filters > Distort > Equations or using one of the existing ones from the Resources section like this one:

Hi @RBeci,
I've moved this thread over to Bugs. I've replicated this issue and it has now been logged with the developers, many thanks 🙂

RBeci reacted to Old Bruce in Color Chooser bug?!
Well I just tested it in Photo 2.1.0 and an RGB 8 bit Adobe RGB document. I get the anomaly sometimes when using the Lightness slider (from the top of the window) changing the Hue setting. Other times not. However if I use the Lightness slider on the side of window I cannot get the Hue slider to change its value.

RBeci reacted to walt.farrell in Color Chooser bug?!
The odd thing is that at about 0:07 into the recording, the color picker is tapped to transfer the color to the upper color well, but at that point the HSL sliders and the value shown on the right under the well are different. They should match, and they do for me.

RBeci reacted to David in Яuislip in Affinity Photo 2 Slice tool automation (macros)
I don't understand that but here's an example using ImageMagick from the command line
magick *.webp -crop 400x300+10+50 +repage -quality 90 -set filename:f %t_%wx%h %[filename:f].jpg
will process all the webp files in a folder taking a slice 400 width, 300 height from X=10, Y=50, you can get these values from Photo after making your slices
then it will save a jpeg at quality 90 with the image dimensions appended to the filename
For multiple slices create a batch file, note % has to be %% in Windows, no idea about Mac eg
magick *.webp -crop 400x300+10+50 +repage -quality 90 -set filename:f %%t_%%wx%%h %%[filename:f].jpg
magick *.webp -crop 200x250+50+150 +repage -quality 90 -set filename:f %%t_%%wx%%h %%[filename:f].jpg
magick *.webp -crop 350x350+100+150 +repage -quality 90 -set filename:f %%t_%%wx%%h %%[filename:f].jpg

Not in/with APh.
But it should be easy to do that with some tool like ImageMagick and/or via Scripting in any scripting language. - See for example ...
ImageMagick Extracting a region of an image with ImageMagick Extract a subset of an image with ImageMagick ... etc. -

Add a Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur This will rasterise the ellipse. If you want to keep the ellipse editable, use a Live Gaussian Blur filter and drag it to the ellipse Layer Icon and adjust the blur.

RBeci reacted to Old Bruce in Affinity Photo 2 Mask types
B is the integrated Adjustment Layer mask, it can only affect the Adjustment layer. A is a mask that can mask anything. If you move A to the very top it will mask out the image as well as its adjustment layer.

RBeci reacted to NathanC in Affinity Designer 2 doesn't respond instant for mouse click
Hi @RBeci,
I have provided a list of potential solutions below which could help improve app responsiveness/performance that I would initially suggest running through:
Disable Hardware Acceleration
In some circumstances/hardware configurations having Hardware Acceleration enabled can cause problems, this can be disabled under Edit > Preferences > Performance. Once you have unticked this setting, restart the app for the change to take effect.
Whilst you're in the same menu, also make sure to have the 'Renderer' assigned to your Graphics card.
Update your GPU Drivers
Make sure that you have the latest available drivers installed for your GPU, i've linked the AMD and Nvidia and Intel driver search tools below, dependant on your GPU.
https://www.nvidia.com/download/find.aspx
https://www.amd.com/en/support
https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/download-center/home.html
Download the .MSI App instead of the .MSIX
Some users have reported that installing the app via the unsandboxed .MSI installer has resulted in improved benchmark scores and general performance, I've linked an FAQ post below which details how to install the .MSI version of the app, be sure to uninstall Designer 2 first before installing the .MSI version to avoid any conflicts/issues.
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/180014-affinity-v2-windows-installers-are-available-as-unsandboxed-msiexe-as-well-as-sandboxed-msix/#comment-1039132
Try the 2.1 beta
The 2.1 beta is publicly available and can be installed along side the current release version and includes many fixes and improvements, I've linked the Signup page below.
https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/affinity-beta-program/
If you're still having issues after following the above, I have a few follow up queries:
What version of Windows are you running? Could you provide me with a screenshot of your app settings under Preferences > Performance? Is this delay file specific? Does this persist after a reboot? Does the delay issue worsen the longer the app is open? Many thanks

RBeci reacted to cgidesign in Median brush tool has no any effect :(
Beside using APhoto's tools or other commercial products there is also the "free A.I. route"
E.g., I needed a flexible upscale and artifact removal solution and found out about a database with numerous A.I. models that offer that:
https://upscale.wiki/wiki/Model_Database
This website lists the models and also has links to UIs to use the models (you don't need to use a command line or write your own code)
Example:
https://github.com/n00mkrad/cupscale
This UI lets you chose which A.I. model to use (e.g. jpg fixing ones, upscalers) or even create comparisons for various different models.
I selected the model: 1x_Saiyajin_DeJPEG_300000_G.pth
and 2.8 sec. later I had the below result:
It is not perfect, but in total the time invested was below one minute to get it.
Side note: It takes a little investigation to understand the requirements to run those A.I. solutions (e.g. most of them require an installed python environment and often they prefer or need an nvidia GPU with enough vram (some even need the the nvidia cuda framework to utilize the tensor cores of the GPU); others work well on AMD cards or even the CPU (the latter one is often not recommended because it is to slow). It can be a bit confusing at first, but once it is set up, you have a lot of A.I. options for free.

RBeci reacted to firstdefence in Median brush tool has no any effect :(
There is a Plugin that is compatible with Affinity called Akvis Artefact Remover: https://akvis.com/en/download.php and while it doesn't always remove all of the artefacting it can certainly speed up the process and help make the tedious removal, less so.
It's also free ,although an email registration is required to get a licence key.
