People have requested an equivalent post for the fixes in 2.0.0 to 2.0.4 2.0.x Bug Fixes This post covers the main bug fixes that are included in 2.0.4. The bug fixes are organised by operating system. (A) Bug fixes which affected all platforms Add Boolean operation slowdown/hang system. Force quit needed to close Affinity. Here another bug which may be unrelated but it came up when I was testing this document. Open this document and drag the bottom middle size handle up so that the note reference will be overset. The frame height doesn't change as it should. [EDIT - the text frame is in a group because it was grouped in the original document. @albertkinng, here's what I mean: A Warp Group is always created based on your selection bounds. A scenario which will result in a bad warp: You create a warp group based on an artistic text symbol without any descender. The warp group size will exactly match this artistic text bounding box. You change the text using characters with descender, The artistic text bounding box will change in size. The warp group will not change in size. The descenders will be outside the warp group bounds, incorrectly distorted. Hence you should be using frame text where the bounding box – and thus also the subsequent warp group – will always remain static.

I know nothing about symbols but linked layers in Photo are pretty limited. You can change colours and dimensions but if you need to change a square into a circle or replace it with text you're goosed What does work is to use a macro to duplicate the top layer, create groups of the layers below and place the duplicate in the groups Macros with lots of layers have been a pain to get going but I think I know the secret which I shall divulge for a small fee When you select another layer when recording a macro you get various options but whatever you choose the macro records the position from the bottom So if you record a macro using 110 layers and select 5th from the top, the macro will store 106 even if it's called fred If you now run the macro using 25 layers it will look for the 106th from the bottom but settle on 25 Then run the macro using 130 layers it will look for the 106th from the bottom and you won't get higher The top layer can also be a group which can contain a full sized rectangle with opacity set to zero, this is useful if you want all the slices to be the same size as the canvas What I did was Create 110 layers Start recording Select top Go down 1 Group Go up 1 Duplicate Go down 1 Arrange/Move inside Select group parent layer Move to back Select top layer Stop recording Then run the macro as many times as necessary, even 110 doesn't take long, and you can finally delete the first layer, go into the export persona, select all layers, create slices and go for a pint

When I float a group (with an image and description) in a text frame that is determined by a masterpage, duplicating the group changes the size of the group. This is in Publisher 2.2.1, Windows 10.0.19045. Then you will need to manually apply Text Styles paragraph by paragraph, making for an extremely boring and long job. And as with most boring jobs it is prone to errors happening. Text Styles are wonderful. Spend some time experimenting with them. Make a new Publisher document and paste some text in. When you make Text Styles start with a Group Style for the basic text and a Group Style for headings. When you make the Group Styles Reset the Formatting so you are starting with a blank slate. Set the Font family, the weight, the size, set the Spacing, leading ( I use Exact for a variety of reasons), left, right, first line and, last line indents. Set the space before and after. Everything else can be left alone for now. Base your Paragraph Styles on the appropriate Group Style. Then you can further base some of the Paragraph Styles on Paragraph Styles or the Group Style. An example would be having Body Text based on the Group Style BASE and then have a paragraph style called Drop Cap and one called Initial Words both based on Body Text. Then you could have a paragraph style named Caption 1 (and Caption 2, 3, etc) based on the group Style BASE because you are changing many things compared to Body Text and you don't want to mess up Captions if you change Body Text's leading. The way I work is to set up BASE so that Body Text can have absolutely nothing changed. Here is what I set up for BASE. Remember to Reset Formatting. It is perhaps a very good idea to also set the Baseline Grid to off while you experiment. Now I change things that are highlighted. I get fewer surprises if I set the Leading to Exact. But that is how I work, you may get fewer surprises with % or Multiple.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Sitaara. If you group the text with the shape and then duplicate, the result will be a duplicate of the group. Resizing that group will retain the ratio, and power duplicating will continue to retain it at the new size(s).

v2.3.1.2217 Hello everyone, I initially had a suggestion for improvement in mind. However, I'm now convinced that it was more of a design error. In Affinity Publisher it was originally a text box containing a letter and three coloured backgrounds, as well as a rectangle measuring 7 × 84 pixels, embedded in an area measuring 320 × 84 pixels. During the process in Affinity, numerous nested groups were created, and all the objects were initially provided in reduced size, and then successively moved and enlarged horizontally and vertically. For example, our vertical rectangle now measures 18.243 × 184.069 pixels before being reduced by a subsequent transformation. There is even an unnecessary group. After optimizing 48 similar files, I saw an average reduction in size of at least 40% per file, accompanied by a significant reduction in the processing time needed to perform unnecessary calculations. Text doesn't re-flow when group size indirectly increased [AF-333] I think this is fixed for moving and adding objects within a group but not for deleting objects. With the attached test document, select the left text frame in the inline group and delete it. The bounding box will not be recalculated. bounding box.afpub

If you change the size of an inline group the text reflows automatically as it should, but if the group's size is changed by changing the size or position of its component layers then the text is not reflowed automatically. This looks like a known "phenomenon". Or perhaps a bug, what do I know. You're using "artistic text" for the logotype which dynamically changes the size of the object bounds. Try frame text with constant frame size and padding instead, so that the text never appears outside the frame bounds. You may need to create a new perspective group for that, however.

As discussed here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/174593-designer-svg-export-empty-groups/ I’ve noticed that I sometimes find ‘superfluous’ groups with transform attributes in the exported SVGs. For example, in Designer, I can create a new document, add some Artistic Text, move the text and then export the document to SVG. Unless someone can give a good explanation for why these groups are being created, I don’t think this should happen.

The way I work is I set up a Group style for the basic, body text named BASE. In that I set everything I want most of the Body Text to have. Font family, size, weight, leading, justification, space before and after, Align to baseline, etc. Then I make a Paragraph style named Bulk and I base it on the Group style BASE and I change nothing. I make a paragraph style called Drop Cap and I can base that on either the Group Style BASE or the Paragraph style Bulk and change only the Drop Cap setting. Then if I want to change the font family and size I just do it for the BASE group style and the two paragraph styles will change. I also set up a group style named HEADINGS for the various headings I will use. First thing to do when setting up a Group Style is to clear all formatting.

These are the options I used for the v2.3 SVG export Which resulted in the same file as mentioned previously. Unchecking "Use relative coordinates" doesn't change anything significant in the v2.3 export. I assume I understood everything correctly, except or one thing... The way text styles are handled in Publisher IMHO is not "affinity" at all (which means well-thought concepts from scratch normally). I would urgently think assigning multiple styles to the same text is an intuitive and important feature. At least I constantly run into the same problem where I do not see any usable solution. Let's assume I define multiple character styles for highlighting words (e.g. different colors, line styles, etc.; of course I uses styles as the colors may change later). Then I have multiples styles for different usages (normal text, smaller text, different font for usage in text boxes or tables, etc). But I would need the highlighting for all those styles as well. FULL STOP! How should I do this efficiently? In my understanding Group styles are not efficient at all. To be honest I still do not understand the purpose of them. Why should I define a style which I cannot assign to text, but only base other styles on it, when I can base a style on a normal style as well (which - in addition - I CAN assign to text). So, in my understanding Group styles do have a major disadvantage, but no advantage. So, the only solution I can think of using styles is to define the styles with most changes or which are more likely to change (e.g. for highlighting), then create a copy for each of them applying the smaller font size, then again for all of them with different font, etc., i.e. means I end multiplying the number of styles, and having the issue that I have to chance multiple styles if, for example, I want to use a different font for the tables. Na, that's not the way I want to work at all. And most important, that is not the way I want to work with an Affinity product (I mean if this would be MS, ok, I mean I would not expect any other, but this is not MS... yet (and hopefully never will be ;-)). Feature Suggestion: Being able to assign multiple text styles (especially for character styles) to the same text. The order of assigning determines the finally applied effect if multiple assigned styles change the same style parameter. The later wins. Maybe this feature could be an option to be able to work like now, but being able to work in this way if the user prefers. I am sorry, if this topic was already discussed somewhere. I could not find anything regarding this. And also if my assumption from the beginning is wrong and I totally misunderstood how styles work...

Hi all I have attached a simple file as an example - in Designer 2 I have three layers with font text, one layer with a rectangle and no groups. When I export the file to SVG it seems that I have an empty group for each text layer. The SVG file displays ok in the browser but I don't want useless clutter in my SVG files. This thread got a bit ‘off track’ near the end, before I 'resurrected' it, but I’m wondering if this needs a bug report creating for it. I’ve noticed that I sometimes find ‘superfluous’ groups with transform attributes in the exported SVGs. For example, in Designer, I can create a new document, add some Artistic Text, move the text and then export the document to SVG. I am in Publisher. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I am against a deadline, I am going to bed now, hope I have an answer in the morning. I have a mixture of objects (boxes, lines etc.) and text boxes grouped together. I need to scale/shrink the resulting object. When I drag a corner and shrink, the text boxes turn from single lines to two lines, i.e. the font doesn't change size in proportion to the rest of the objects in the group. How can I get the text box and font size to change in proportion with the rest of the group? Also line width/weight is not changing either, and I need it to!

Still I'd say a cell size of e.g. 7 or 9 mm isn't sufficient to answer your question … if we don't know whether this cells include the questions/descriptions, their text lengths and font size. For crossword puzzles you might generally consider the age of your target group, e.g. a possibly preferred use by older people with possibly reduced eye sight. The acceptance also will vary with the individual size of handwriting which can be quite different. I'd recommend a little research of existing crossword books to get an idea of an acceptable min/max cell size. Or print out sample layouts / cells and let a few people fill the form – or let them write some words in capitals without any visible cell or line grid to get an idea of their 'native' handwriting size (although this is often larger than common crossword cells or in the limited space on a postcard for instance where the handwriting size may get 'automatically' smaller to the end/edge to add more text). Note that a common cell size on school material / chequered exercise book is 5 mm. (while I don't know whether there is a global standard). Another clue could be the common text size on product packaging in their ingredient tables. (Personally, I wonder why their tiny sizes are legal given the legal requirement for this information.)

In Publisher 2.3.1, when I create a Picture Frame and a Text Frame for a caption and snap and group them together, usually there will be a space between the picture and the caption text as in image A but occasionally there won't as in Image B. Both text Frames are Top Aligned and the image is the same size as the Picture Frame in both cases. I can create space between the Picture Frame and Text Frame to look right, but there should be a way to do it automatically. How can I fix this?
