More options for the typographic quotes pref.

Recommended Posts

Here's an example of typical text in my document. I have dimensions and quoted text. Dimensions need straight " marks, and the text needs curly “ quotes. I'm not sure there's a way to make a 100% accurate pref to handle this, but if there is, then It would be helpful. I made the changes you see here manually.

This could easily be handled by GREP. Please can we have GREP in Find and Replace.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Ideally you would use proper inch marks (with a slight slope) if the font includes them:

straight quote "
curly quote ”
inch mark ″

Can I get a Prime?

The name, Smart Quotes,  was always a lie. If they were "smart" they would know whether they are beside a numeral or not...

It's an easy thing to do in a font. A few of mine are that way. GREP Styles would be nice, as well as GREP find/replace.

I found the override key combination:  Shift + Control + "

Nothing happened when I used the key combination with artistic or frame text.

Are you using a Mac? Here's with " first and shift/command/" next.

In your previous post you wrote:

Shift + Control + "

Sorry I meant shift/control/". I suspect there's some key combo that will work for you. I tried all combinations until I hit on the one that worked.

Thanks. There may well be a key combo that works for most Windows users, but Control on a Mac is usually replaced by an awkward combination of mouse button presses which (because of the design of the touchpad) is useless to me on my Windows laptop.

I'm not sure what Shift+Ctrl+" is doing on a Mac, but if it's something in Text > Insert > Quotation Marks > ... there are no shortcut keys assigned to any of those by default on Windows.
