  1. Hi, Thought it was about time I posted something new..... Been working on the Lightbox Expo Challenge (Environmental Design!) for nearly a month now...for a bit of fun..and to learn something new!. All Vector Construction in Affinity Designer with multiple layer embedded files and manipulation of adjustment layers.....mostly for re-colouring objects Two images created for projects Size had to be scaled to a multiple of 1940px width or height EV01 Original Size is 9600px x 3880 px (had to scale to 1940px) and 300dpi EV02 Original Size is 9600px x 4500 px and 300dpi Extended the height of this one during building as the framework looked squashed forced into the original size!
  2. In Affinity Designer, under the vector persona, on a vector layer, using the vector brush I have the option of using some pencil brushes. Are these truly vector? I draw a line, the line itself is editable but is it truly generating vector texture or applying raster texture to my vector line work? IF say, I want to create hand lettered logos in vector with a realistic pencil texture is this the way to go or will that texture actually be unscalable raster? I’ve tried selecting drawn lines and “creating curve” and “expanding stroke” but either way, it just looks like the texture is not converting to a shape, instead it appears raster... Any insights appreciated! Thank you!
  3. Hello. I'm attempting to upload art made in Affinity Designer to Teespring. I export as a PNG, Resample: Bilinear and don't resize the image larger when creating my listing. After creating the listing, the preview looks pixelated. Other shops don't have this pixelation problem on their product pages. I'm concerned about the quality of the shirt. Their design tips say to turn off anti-aliasing in Illustrator. Can I achieve a similar result in Designer to prevent pixilation of a printed product? I see an export option for nearest neighbor but I don't fully understand this or if it will allow my design to be printed with high quality. The artwork are vectors and they are only pixelated when uploaded to the shop. What would you suggest?
  4. Want to use a vector brush? Want to use a specific color with your vector brush? Want to use a specific color that you carefully created and saved to your Swatches library? Too bad! Please add the ability to choose swatches within the color menus of the vector brush and pencil tools. Thanks!
  5. Assets from [Screech] inktober #09 Sharing a selection of vector assets Asset List subCategory List 35 Feathers 8 Fill texture patterns 14 Texture Groups 19 Texture Overlays 11 Trees/partial 13 Leaves 11 shapes Asset Sample Sheets PDF sample Sheet x2 (not all assets displayed) Single asset file with 7 subcategories Samples as displayed (had to change colour of some assets in library as don't display well on grey backgrounds) Also embedded repeating patterns (x2) had to be inserted to assets as group rather than embedded file (which is how I usually use them.) Enjoy! Hope you find them useful Vector Assets 01 01.pdf Vector Assets 01 02.pdf vectorAssets-Screech.zip

  7. Hi all, I'm considering buying Designer but one thing that I can't find is if there is a way to fill an object using vector or patterns. I only find gradients and bitmap. I know we can duplicate an object to create hand made pattern but I can't then edit the repetitions like if is a bitmap fill. Cheers, Juan
  8. Is there a way to offset the path of an object (to create a new path / object that isn't just a scale of the first object)? Please see attached: Thanks!
  9. as stated above, the Vector Brushes very sluggish PC designer latest version. NOT BETA. I have to wait 3 -5 minutes for Designer to stop taking ram. Then the brushes drawing is a bit smoother, but very sluggish. This seems to be getting worse with every release. This is happening with supplied brushes and third party. My machine is fast, Threadripper, 64GB of ram, 2080 Super, 4K. No reason what so ever for this to be lagging. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also when is GPU acceleration going to happen on the PC? Gary
  10. I'm currently working in Designer to create vector artwork, and a few of the designs are getting a little more complex than I'm usually used to and I'm having trouble trying to fill in shapes - my designs are eventually printed onto posters and clothing. I have a few options when it comes to filling in but feel they are unorthodox or won't give me the desired print quality at 300dpi. 1. At the moment I have been creating the line work from an image, tracing the main outlines of shapes. This has resulted in a lot of open lines. I have then been keeping the lines in a separate layer from the colour layer. This also includes a lot of duplicating shapes, breaking lines and joining them together with others to be able to then fill the shape on the colour layer and turning off the stroke. Overall this method feels very clunky and effects my work flow, it also gets quite confusing, never quite knowing which outline is connected to which colour and any small movement of a shape will ruin the piece. I feel like this whole process could be improved with a 'smart fill bucket tool' similar to what is is AI. IS there a suitable work around for this missing tool, or is the the quickest method? 2. I haven't actually used this method yet, but it is something I have thought about quite recently which i think could improve my workflow in lieu of the magic fill bucket tool - however not sure if this will hamper the quality of my print by leaving Designer to colour in Photo. I have both Designer and Photo. My idea was to use the appropriate print template i have supplied for my garments all at the correct dimensions and at 300DPI to create my line work. I would then open the line work in Photo and use my tablet and pen to paint in the colours between the lines. I feel like this would improve my work flow tenfold, but advice regarding the print quality would be appreciative - or even if this is a poor method. Look at this is would increase the speed of my design work. I think I'm just scared/paranoid to leave Designer and have my Designs raterized as opposed to working with crips, sharp vectors. Its worth noting that at the moment my designs are flat colour designs without gradients/shading at the moment and my designs are exported asP NGs at 300dpi Many thanks in advance! Would also love to hear your own work flows regarding the filling of complex vectors.
  11. I really need something similar to Illustrator's "Blend" tool where you can have 2 vector options, make a blend, and they set the number of steps and some other properties used to create the individual steps in-between. I don't see anything like this in Affinity Designer, am I just missing something? Thanks.
  12. I'm trying to re-create the brush I used in Illustrator which was just a simple round brush with a smooth, round end. I have one in Affinity that looks exactly like my Illustrator brush, except that when I draw the end of the line is jagged. I've attached some pictures to explain what I mean. The black line was drawn in Illustrator, the blue in Affinity Designer. What I did to make the blue brush was went into the ink brushes and made a new one and it automatically gave me one with round edges. But when I draw it gives me those uneven edges. I'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that I'm in the ink brush section, but I'm super new to Affinity and not sure how to fix this.
  13. This feature is unparalleled and extremely powerful. redefines vector coloring. Affinity should do everything in its power to support this feature. @TonyB Learn more: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/gradients.html#create_apply_freeform_gradient
  14. As the new project for training and as just fun, I plan to recreate in Affinity Designer some objects or characters from cartoons or comic books from my childhood. Nothing specially serious. It doesn't have to be perfect and I also allow myself to do some minor changes in original designs. First project being created after hours of my regular job is coming from Disney's cartoon Tale Spin - it's seaplane "Seaduck" which was used by great pilot Baloo. Project isn't finished yet, but I've decided to share it. I know that shadows, details and some other things could be better, but for now it's just concept of the overall idea, and for sure will be still improved in spare time
  15. Hi everyone! I started drawing on my iPad using the vector brush tool but now would like to convert these back to regular pencil strokes. Is this possible? Back story: I generally draw on my iPad using Affinity Designer and then finish up the artwork on my macbook using AI (sorry if this is sacrilegious!!!). When I draw brush vectors in AD on the iPad and then open the file in AI, instead of editable vector strokes, I get solid images that are masked in vector shapes. I didn't realize this until all of my images were drawn using the brush tool, thus wanting to convert them all quickly back into pencil strokes that I can move around on AI. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  16. Any ideas why this is? I can't work it out. Affinity_Help.mov
  17. Had another go at a vector. It's not finished (bumper needs a bit of work) and as usual probably not graphically correct with lighting shadows etc. I find that stuff hard to do. The only bits that aren't vectors are the 2 windows. I thought it looked better this way looking into the van & seeing the seats & back windows. My first posted work here Yamaha MX Bike
  18. hello, I am a new user in affinity, I made a design to be uploaded to freepik but I have a problem in .eps because the file size does not meet the criteria. is there a way to increase the file size? and what is meant by eps in cc is affinity support that?Thank you for your advance!
  19. Hello everyone, From today i believe i have to start sharing few of our design works (actually i'm working alone but i do build a team from time to time depending on project size ) Most of our client/requesters are Church based and we really enjoy doing stuffs for them but what you will se here is more about Smarty Studio standing with other studio/teams together into what is to become Congolese Design Style. Well each country have it's own style of design but Congo doesn't have a proper thus most of Congolese designers simply clone/copy styles from everywhere. This is a beginning, please your inputs on each design palet/kit will be of great help and will help us improving better. Blessings !
  20. Hello community, does someone know how to import .eps file gracefully in affinity designer to edit the vector file??? Thanks

  22. Hi, I couldn't find any keyboard shortcuts for vector joining operations. Is there any? On Inkscape there's Ctrl++ or Ctrl+- or Ctrl+/ and so on it's very intuitive...
  23. I have been searching for a while now, but cant find any "select same colour" feature. All I can find is a feature request post from 4 years ago asking for this. Surely this rudimental feature has been implimented by now. Selecting and replacing a colour is one of the main benefits of vector work, to not have this seems crazy to me. I know the dev team is small and your product is so superior to Adobe is so many ways, but missing fundamental features like this makes it unusable for real world projects. I hope I am being a dullard and a select same colour feature is available. If not please add it to the top of the list of features in the next update.

  25. Dear Affinity community, I have a mystery that maybe one of you might help me to resolve ! I need to print a black and white vector drawing on a booklet. I made it with multiple black and white shapes or lines with Affinity Designer. When I print it directly from Affinity Designer (with file > print) it looks great : the vector lines look very sharp and the white color from my design is replaced by the color of my printing paper : this is exactly what I want ! I don't even have to export it first ! The problem comes with Affinity Publisher. When I insert this drawing in my composition (with file > insert) in order to illustrate my booklet ; I can't print it in the same way. Either my outlines look pixelized (like a low resolution .jpg file) Or my white color appear slightly different from the color of my printing paper (a very light grey) and I dont want that. I just want it to be transparent and replaced by the white color of my printing paper. Trust me, I tried every solution I could find on the internet to fix these problems (different export format, bend options, "erase white paper" option...) and nothing works. If anybody has a solution I would be very grateful for your help ! Thanks, in advance ! All the best, Lanval
