    Halloween Fun - AD vectors

Halloween around the corner... nice to see all the great stuff made in affinity.
  2. Hello Everyone, I'm happy to share this with all of You today. Well i'm really sorry for sending this so late but i wasn't sure i could share it here but i hope you will take 4min to watch as our 1st video demo there was done with Affinity Designer MacOs. Your comments will be of great help to me making the Chan better, there is still more to come and be published but let's first see how to make this one even better. https://goo.gl/wrJFn3 Blessings.
  3. Update: I went to Microsoft and tried it. You can use the vector brush tool with the surface pen in the same “drawing” motion that you can use on the iPad. I’ve been debating purchasing an iPad Pro vs. a Surface Pro 6...I was messing around with the app on the iPad Pro at the apple store and one thing I liked a lot is you can use the Apple Pencil to essentially “draw” your vectors through the vector brush tool. Is there the ability to do this on Microsoft surface pro with the surface pen with the pc version of affinity designer? Or is it only for the iPad app? Thanks!

  5. I exported a sample page as PDFx3 containing: a logo created in Illustrator and exported as PDF (it has some effects, white glow, I know) and a text above and text below the logo so it is affected by the glow effect. Publisher rasterizes the logo's edges, and the text below is also rasterized. to compare i made the same file in Indesign and the pdf is correct: the logos edges remain vector shapes of course inside the logo there are pixels because of the shadow-effects but that's ok. the text underneath has sharp vector edges and a pixel fill - that's also ok. This needs to be addressed before the final release of Publisher to be used in production. Publisher: (pixelated in the output resolution 300dpi which is enough for a photo but not for a vector logo) indesign (vector edges, even in the effects-areas):
  6. Hi, I’ve recently bought an iPad Pro and have been eager to try affinity designer, wow I’m blown away!! I work as a graphic designer and have to use adobe products at work, I could not imagine Having to illustrate this in Adobe Illustrator. Anyway this is my attempt at photo realism. Thanks for looking
  7. Hi, what are the chances to receive the option to export Vector shapes into Shapes for Apple Motion? This is a option I would love to see, which would push me away further from Adobe Illustrator. We create most of our Logos in Illustrator and run a script to export the vector shapes for Apple Motion. This would be a great feature for motion graphic artist that use Apple Motion! Thanks
  8. Greetings folks. In this thread I will simply be documenting the journey, of things that I create with Affinity. This is not meant to be a thread for tutorial, rather a thread for what can be made with the software. With that on the side, feel free to ask questions if you have, I will be happy to answer. Cheers!

    Tea cup illustration

I feel a cup theme coming on. All done in Affinity Designer's Draw Persona, lot's of blur fx and transparencies. Ideally, I would have used a' blend tool' or 'blend along path' to created the equaliy spaced and repeating patterns, but AD doesn't have it. Soooo, I had to eyeball everything, and I now have a headache. :-)

    Rainy Day

Started this one as a sketch on a stormy day. I wanted to make it look like it was a photographed piece made from construction paper. The best part was being able to complete the entire thing on my iPad from anywhere I happened to be, rather than sitting at a desk or with a rapidly warming laptop across my thighs. My first piece with the soon-to-be industry standard!
  11. Hey everyone, I am working on converting our Adobe compatible products from RetroSupply Co. into Affinity compatible products. I am just now understanding that the vector brushes do not work in the same way that vector brushes do in Illustrator. I see that the native vector Affinity brushes are just raster images that follow a vector path. What I need help deciding is if our Adobe Illustrator brushes will be usable (and desired) in Affinity or if we should scrap the vector looking brushes and just make them with raster images. I could really use the help of some of you who illustrate with Affinity every day! Your input would be really valuable. I've attached a beta version of InkWash- our vector water color brushes. You will see some of them are named "InkWash Vector #" and others are named "InkWash Raster #". Which do you prefer the look of? Vector or Raster? You will see that the "vector" titled ones have a more traditional vector look (as they are coming from Adobe Illustrator). I am trying to decide just converting what we have is sufficient or if we should remake the textures as raster before making them into Affinity vector brushes. I really appreciate any input! Thank you! -Suzanne InkWash Beta by RetroSupply.afbrushes
  12. I was very excited to try the Windows Beta of Designer - bought the Mac version and have been using that to create vector files to cut on an Epilog Mini Helix laser cutter. Originally, those files were saved and cut via Corel Draw on the Windows only Helix, but I thought, hey! Let's give Designer a try... But. It seems that the printer code is rasterizing things before sending to the printer driver, a situation I found with Inkscape as well. This results in the Epilog not seeing any vector lines to cut - making it a raster only process. Queue sad panda. The Epilog uses a custom windows driver, so not sure if anyone has every had success, or if there's something I can change so i can use Designer directly.
  13. Hello, everyone. I'm new here and to Designer (for the iPad). Currently, I'm working on my first inked piece using this app and am having some trouble with the Vector Brush Tool. So here's what I've done: 1. I opened a new file... 2. Selected the Vector Brush Tool... 3. Outlined the drawing... Here's the problem: 1. I can't seem to adjust the pressure of the strokes by dragging the curve 2. When I do drag the curve and let go, the curve jumps back to normal (even if it does move, the stroke remains unaffected) ***See last photo*** Is there something I'm missing? Thanks
  14. Hey all, I've been working on a deck of cards. Still trying to flesh out the main theme I want to go for but right now its sort of based on Tarot cards. Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds are also Swords, Wands, Cups, and Pentagrams respectively like in a tarot deck. There's also 4 colors instead of 2. The idea is for this deck to also be the minor arcana of a tarot deck and later I can design a "major arcana expansion" deck that when combined with this deck would make it into a full tarot deck. The major arcana card in a tarot deck are the ones with names like "The Magician", "The Fool", "Death", "Justice", etc. The minor arcana are the 4 suits with the Ace, 2-10, and the court cards so that would be this deck. Maybe even will include a couple Major arcana as the Joker cards. Like "The Fool" and "Death" cards since most playing card decks have 2 jokers anyways. I'm also playing around with a duality idea of each of the court cards having slightly different sides. One being normal and the other side being a bit rough or unkempt. This would make them not perfectly symmetrical which would also be good for using them as Tarot cards since a card being upside down means something different than if it is turned right side up. Most number cards can show upside down except for the diamonds so I still need to figure out that for the 2-10 of diamonds cards. Anyways, I'm rambling on now. So what do you think? Any critiques or suggestions on the design? TL;DR - I'm designing a deck of cards. What do you think?
  15. Hi guys, I'm very happy to share with you my youtube channel using Affinity Designer for Ipad as Game Artist, I really hope to help some of you with my techniques showed there. 17. Hello: I come with some Ideas for Affinity Designer... When you create a text that said: "Hello World" I would like that you have a option for split this text and when you click this option, it will put "Hello" in one layer and "World" in another layer and the option if you want split by word or by letter. When you are working with curves, I would like that you can select a node and you have the option for rotate this node or scale this or those nodes selected. Have the option for convert a Bitmap to vector. Have a option that you can create your own brushes without save any picture, is like pattern along path. If is possible, compatibility with Illustrator brushes. When you select the Pen Tool, it have the option of Stability, I would like another option for do perfect curves, like in InkScape when you select Spiro. Effects for curves. More transformation option for text like liquify and this transformation option that you can see in Illustrator. More variety of adjustment and filters. At the moment this is the ideas that I have. If I get some more I will let y'all know. Thanks. I love affinity products.
  18. Is there a way to offset the path of an object (to create a new path / object that isn't just a scale of the first object)? Please see attached: Thanks!
  19. I frequently use bitmap fills in my work - a long-term feature of DrawPlus and PagePlus. The addition of vector fills to later versions of DrawPlus was a delight and I had hoped that it might be implemented eventually in PagePlus. The ability to use vector and bitmap fills would be a real plus for me, and would undoubtedly persuade me to migrate from Draw and Page|Plus to Affinity.
  20. Brian nice graphics series!!; A question, since you use the forum as a personal site, why do not you also share AD files with other users? It would be very useful and not just an opportunity to show your work. thanks!

  24. I was thinking it would be useful if you could hide a segment of a curve's stroke. I've been running into a lot of situations where this would be useful. Moho Pro, for instance, has the "Hide Edge" tool, which hides a part of the stroke between two points (pictured above)
