  1. Always makes me laugh when I see people who probably don’t like each other very much air kissing in greeting so I thought I”d draw it. I’d previously abandoned this piece as I couldn’t get it to work, but after returning to it last week it suddenly came together, so I’m really pleased I made the effort to revisit it. It’s given me a lot of confidence to go back and examine some other projects I’d previously given up on.
  2. Hello, I was wondering if within Affinity Designer is there a "Free transform tool" to allow perspective distort with shapes, this is something that can be done within illustrator where you can take two points and can move them together or further apart with equal distance like the example below. You can kinda do this with the "Corner" tool set to straight but this is set to only one angle when perspective distort can change the angle. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a great day.
  3. Hi everybody, first of all I'm not professional at using Affinity right now but keen to improve. I've come to a point where I don't know how to proceed or not sure if there is a more clever way in doing it. My Target: I would like to fill in all enclosed areas in a vector frame. And have borders and the enclosed areas as seperate vectors. The vector consists only of borders surronding empty areas. My Problem Vector Below u find a vector work, where I would like to fill all enclosed areas with white while ( not really a must have but would be nice to have) [ and the surrondings should be black as an border.] Currently I do the following: 1. ADD funktion so i get one big Vector where all borders are connected 2. I subtract this big vector from a new white layer in the very back. 3. Then I use the split up function to split this into pieces 4. Deleting superimposed layers -manual work- Sometimes difficult and not possible sometimes crazy vector failurs... 5. Sometimes usable results... Maybe you have a more sufficient way in solving my problem. *Incase this has been mentioned already I'm very sorry but I didn't find it using the search function.* Thank you in advance for your input! PS.: Very best from Germany stay healty. Silent.
  4. Hi all, I'm considering buying Designer but one thing that I can't find is if there is a way to fill an object using vector or patterns. I only find gradients and bitmap. I know we can duplicate an object to create hand made pattern but I can't then edit the repetitions like if is a bitmap fill. Cheers, Juan
  5. I was initially a bit underwhelmed with Photo betas Pattern fill tool as I prefer to use vectors for this kind of thing, but just had a thought today about using Publishers Data Merge layout tool to create vector patterns and it turns out to work really well, at least for my usage - I'm not really up to the job at making tutorials, but thought I'd make a few screen captures in order to share the technique - it really does seem powerful and doesn't seem to slow down the way the old step and repeat symbols technique does First here's an earlier post from today where I first began messing around with the technique - this covers the basics of how to set up a repeating pattern And heres the technique put into practice on one of my old cartoon illustration jobs - hope someone can make use of it Pattern_test.mov
  6. Is there a way to offset the path of an object (to create a new path / object that isn't just a scale of the first object)? Please see attached: Thanks!
  7. I have been searching for a while now, but cant find any "select same colour" feature. All I can find is a feature request post from 4 years ago asking for this. Surely this rudimental feature has been implimented by now. Selecting and replacing a colour is one of the main benefits of vector work, to not have this seems crazy to me. I know the dev team is small and your product is so superior to Adobe is so many ways, but missing fundamental features like this makes it unusable for real world projects. I hope I am being a dullard and a select same colour feature is available. If not please add it to the top of the list of features in the next update.

  11. I really need something similar to Illustrator's "Blend" tool where you can have 2 vector options, make a blend, and they set the number of steps and some other properties used to create the individual steps in-between. I don't see anything like this in Affinity Designer, am I just missing something? Thanks.

  13. Hi can anyone please let me know the steps in creating a vector custom brush from an image in Affinity Designer? Please note the image i want to create the custom vector brush is attached herewith. Appreciate your support and assistance in this regards.
  14. This is a recently completed commission, which was fantastically enjoyable to undertake. Frankentoon’ s Texturiser Brush Set was a great help In creating the patina of the leather and the cushion fabric,, and Gagatka’s fur brush set really helped in creating the texture of the throw over the back of the chair. Otherwise, the smudge tool in pixel persona was essential in creating the sheen of the dog’s fur.
  15. I have a vector spiral and I need to put text on the path, but the spiral is the wrong direction. When I flip the path and then attempt to place text on the path, the text is also now flipped. How do I place text on a flipped vector shape without the text also being flipped? EDIT: As always inevitably happens I figured it out immediately after I posted. Using the 'Node' tool I selected all the nodes, pressed 'Transform Mode', scaled it horizontally, then applied text to the path and it's flowing the proper direction.
  16. Illustrator have this feature when you have two open vectors you can make them one by joining their nodes.
  17. Is there a way to distort vector artwork along a defined shape? Is there a way to simulate tilting it backward into space, skew or warp the artwork?

  19. In Affinity Designer, under the vector persona, on a vector layer, using the vector brush I have the option of using some pencil brushes. Are these truly vector? I draw a line, the line itself is editable but is it truly generating vector texture or applying raster texture to my vector line work? IF say, I want to create hand lettered logos in vector with a realistic pencil texture is this the way to go or will that texture actually be unscalable raster? I’ve tried selecting drawn lines and “creating curve” and “expanding stroke” but either way, it just looks like the texture is not converting to a shape, instead it appears raster... Any insights appreciated! Thank you!
  20. The people of School of motion are a big fan of affinity and today they posted this very detailed and wonderful tutorial on how to export from Affinity Designer® to Adobe® After Effects@. It may seem a little bit cumbersome, but I think it's worth it...specially if you try to avoid illustrator. The link: https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/save-affinity-designer-vector-files-after-effects Have a nice one! B.

  22. Hi, so I have quite a strange issue. I was making a logo for my friends winery. I painted it and then digitalized it so she would get vector to use right. I was just in Designer persona for vectors using brushes from this library. The issue is that when I am in the affinity designer the logo itself looks ready, with transparent background etc. but when I export it to eps, white backgrounds behind the shapes appear. I was doing a little research, ticked all the boxes which was supposed to be ticked nothing helped. Then I tried to put the bad eps file back to Affinity and see what is the problem. What I found out is that some of the curves changed to images. When I tried to delete the "white squares" it will automatically delete part of the logo and it is just such a mess. I was wondering if that is because I though I used vector brushes but it somehow transferred to pixel brushes? The thing is it took me a lots of time to find out how to digitalize the painting itself and it was painted with watercolors which was hard to imitate. I was so happy when I finally found out that I can make it in affinity with the vector brushes but now I cant export it. My friend will use the logo in a big size to be printed on a wood. To understand how it was made maybe it will be clear why this is happening for somebody else. I used curves to make the outlines of all the shapes than filled them with color and then I used a mask layer for the filled ones, where I was using vector brushes to imitate the "texture" so It would not be so flat just with a plain color and look like it was painted. I tried to change the option as well for the eps but it resulted in loosing the strokes sizes. i tried to put it in Illustrator as well but the same thing appearing. If somebody knows what to do with it that would be awesome. UPDATE: I tried to just basic shape and the same mask with brush as I used in the logo and it has the same problem. When I export it and put it back it has the white background and it is rasterized. Second option to export it without rasterizing at all results in that the used watercolor vector brush is just black.. So that means it has problem export the vector brushes like vector and it rasterizes them - which i do not get, when it is a VECTOR brush. Or maybe I am idiot and understand the base of vector brushes badly? Here some pictures so you can see what I meant. This is finished logo for export All the layers are curves in this EPS version put back in Aff - curves became images This is to show you how was it made - basic shape filled with basic color and then mask with just brush stroke to make the texture This is the last option I tried but it resulted in the image below - all the stroke sizes, option, brushes deleted. 23. I've recently created several vector only designs in Affinity Designer. When I go to export them as SVG instead of being vector svg files they are svgs that contain raster pngs embedded in them and hence don't scale properly. This is not what I want. 😢 Is there any way to tell affinity designer to export the vector design as only a vector svg not png embedded in svg? Are there features of the software that force the design to export embedded pngs, and if so is there a refence to which ones so they can be avoided and alternate methods employed? I've noticed specifically that outer shadow fx seems to trigger this, i'd really like to know which other features trigger this behavior so that i can make svg vector safe resizable designs. Anyone know a reference to this aspect of Affinity Designer? Many Thanks. ❤️
