  1. Why is the default for a new publication landscape please? I have noticed that one needs to check a checkbox to get a portrait publication. Yet for text, portrait seems a more likely default. I am not suggesting changing it, I just wonder why that is the case as it seems counterintuitive. William

  4. Hello everyone ! Hello Team ! Well, i just want to make this request/suggestion that i believe will be of great interest for many in this community. We love affinity Photo a lot but still there are point we often disagree with and tends to make use of other tools but we end up lose a lot of time and some time lose it all. Among those so much wanted features i notice the precious Skin Tone Fine tuning. Well, there are tons of methods that we can use to fine tune our skin tone but when looking closely they are intended for Pro or peoples who have considerable experience with Photo software, but when it comes to newbie ... they just lose it all. So i propose a New Skin Tone Fine Tune - Live filter to be implemented; that live filter must allow us to work fast on skin tone applying quick and auto mask to the subject skin so we can work on it. A bit more ? Well, I suggest this : - an Auto detection of skin tone to be implemented the second we select that filter then a quick mask applied, allowing us to fine tune the mask because skin also share the same color as background and environment. - After mask is okay then we can play with the sliders few of them can be : Smoothing, Brilliance, Vibrance, clarity, sharpening, blemish correction and maybe Hue (for those playing the Hulk stuff) ... do not forget to add a color/picking tool to allow average color picking (kind of manual method for those wanting to select precise areas or ranges) - All this should happen in live mode so we see in real-time what we do and how is the output - When all necessary tuning are done, just click apply Making this a Live filter is a plus that will enable us to come back to it tuning again and again thus increasing the interest Newbie and learners (and even Pro) may have about Affinity Photo. Believe this: the day you will offers us such quick way of working a lot of people will be at peace. Please do not remove or delete the actual way of doing the same job as many people like to do things manually so they have to be satisfied. May another one in this forum fine tune this suggestion for the good. Blessings until this is implemented for the Good of Photography.

  9. Hi everyone, I recently wrote a post on my blog covering my workflow regarding the steps I follow when I'm editing a portrait. I also made available a PDF file with the same checklist I use so you can download it. The post is available both is Portuguese and English. [PT] http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/lista-de-tarefas-edicao-de-retrato/ [EN] http://blog.pedrosoares.photo/portrait-retouching-checklist/?lang=en There are also other articles talking about Affinity and other free resources. Let me know if it was useful. Cheers

  13. Hey there! I'm enjoying Affinity Designer and still trying to get my head around different concepts. I've created a landscape document (A3 size) and expected it to print exactly in A3 landscape. Alas, it turned out that the document is printed on A4 by default. This prompted me to activate "scaling to fit paper" and I picked A3. This time, the landscape document was scaled down to fit on a portrait A3 paper. The only way to get my A3 landscape design to print on an A3 landscape paper was to switch the document back to portrait and turn my design 90°. This isn't very user-friendly though, because I want to have the document in landscape mode (of course). Am I missing something? Thanks, Georg
  14. Experimenting with creating vector woodcut portraits, which is a bit of a nuisance. Many things to consider when constructing such drawings. Still a tad confusing at this point. After four trials and errors I arrived at this level of design complexity. I used my vector portrait of Abe Lincoln as the image for this test. I believe the trick is to find the right way to set up the masking strokes after which basically any image can be used to build a woodcut portrait. Working method: Create a sine line Duplicate it until entire page is covered Select all lines and ‘Expand Stroke’ Combine all expanded strokes – after which they will show as a single ‘Curve’ in the Layers panel Duplicate a number times of your choice Rotate each of them to different angles, making sure they cover entire page – you have to enlarge them until they do Import an image Duplicate it to the same number of combined strokes / Curves that you duplicated in step 5 Apply a different ‘Treshold’ level to the original image and duplicates Rasterize all images Drag each image inside a curve so that the Curve serves as a mask Make sure none of the Curves has a fill or stroke width assigned Remarks: The combined strokes shown as Curves will show up over the images. Hit the Magnifier Zoom tool to see the result without the Curves overlaying them Each Curve containing the rasterized image can be manipulated in several ways – opacity, type of filter I attached the Affinity Designer file to study for those interested. Thomas Mann was born in my hometown Lübeck, where there are also many facilities and memories of him (Buddenbrookhaus). http://b-bertuleit.de/portrait-watercolors/

  18. When I'm editing a sunset photo with people in the foreground I select the sky to enhance colors then I flip my selection to brighten the people & the foreground because that part of the photo is often under exposed. Because I'm editing the two halves of the photo separately, there is often a grey and sometimes neon yellow line that gets created where the two halves of the photo meet (right down the selection line). Is there a best practices way to avoid or fix this issue so it looks less edited? I've noticed even slight enhancements can cause this line. Thanks, I'm new to all things photo editing!
