This workaround is laborious to say the least.  So I have to copy an entire layer just to get a few line strokes?

I use Illustrator both desktop and on the iPad, the iPad version isn’t junk, it’s actually pretty decent given that it was released back in October.  The boolean operators work consistently unlike Affinity Designers’ boolean bugs.  selecting & moving items is easy and intuitive.  I used to use Affinity Designer but just got tired of the random bugs in the app, and also grew tired of their lackluster response to fix these bugs.  I use the Shapebuilder in Illustrator often enough to justify paying for a CC subscription.

Dear developers, I have been using Affinity Designer for a while now, and I find it great, but it has some major flaws that make it sometimes very hard to use or, worse, made it necessary to swap back to illustrator (which is great but way worse organized than affinity, and it has the awful subscription service).

By adding and/or fixing these few things (most of which very easy I am sure), Affinity Ipad would be most definitely, and by far the best out there.

    In order of importance:

    1) FIX BOOLEAN OPERATIONS: these simply works badly, especially the divide tools, which creates hundreds of useless curves and nodes, and empty lines between divided shapes.
1 "part 2") SHAPE CREATOR: this is a killing feature that illustrator has, and it is missing here, please add it, it makes work flow sometimes SO MUCH EASIER and faster.

    2) SNAPPING TOOL/MAGNET: not working well, way too many options to adjust it, but still not precise when it comes to snap shapes and curves (as I have shown in the other forum section).

    3) FREE TRANSFORM/PERSPECTIVE VECTOR SHAPES & CURVES: just like this.

    4) AUTO SMOOTH CURVES TOOL: this is useful when it comes to quickly reduce unnecessary nodes in shapes, and simplify/make lighter the working process.

    5) CREATE PATTERN/REPEAT TOOL: this is extremely useful when it comes to create patterns, not sure why it is missing.

    6) TEXT CORRECTOR: please ADD the option to keep in UNCHECKED, or AT LEAST fix it, it keeps underlining correct words, it is an

PLEASE REALLY CONSIDER THESE POINTS, as I really think these would be loved by the whole community here.

I was also looking for the shape builder function in the app and confused when couldn't find it since I remember reading a tweet about this by Serif 4 years ago. (dudes, when you promise something please take a look at your Twitter, at least delete it ) However it seems like one of the marketing team promises that engineering team could never really cared/figured.

To the people who defends the lack of the feature, it's just unbelievable. Shape builder does not just add shapes. It adds, divides, deletes, closed shapes or just intersecting lines without the need of excessive copies of the same shape. It's the most used command when building geometrical work. I just select the area, press alt+m, quickly clearing out the guidelines and create the geometry in just 15 seconds, done.

While doing a professional job, time matters most. If a time saving feature like this is overlooked for years, then the software is just not well suited for professional work.

I really really hate Adobe and I bought all of your apps the day they released for iPad. Moved out from Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop *almost*. I just want to ditch all of the Adobe software from my process but still there's a gap.

Please give us a clear answer about when or if this feature and the image tracking is coming to affinity!

At this point, especially since Adobe Illustrator for iPad has the ShapeBuilder tool, I would suggest just buying Illustrator for iPad.  Given the lack of response from Serif,  it’s apparent that they are not interested in creating a ShapeBuilder tool for Designer. Maybe they will surprise us, who knows?

AFAIK on Macs it was included since OS X Mountain Lion (10.8, 2012), afterwards X11 isn't longer a direct part of the operating system. Apple instead supports the evolution of XQuartz and refers to this external project (see also on Github). Though there are also some plain Quartz ports of Inkscape for Macs, which then don't need XQuartz at all.
However there are also some other tracing tools (free and commercial) beside Inkscape, which then use OSX Quartz natively. Personally on Macs I sometimes use SV, DragPotrace, but mostly some own programmed (also potrace based, but internal) app ...

... I mostly use my own tools here since I've build AppKit and iOS versions out of that stuff, so that I can use it on the iPad too for bitmap to vector tracing. I've also gave it recently some batch processing capability (only rudimentory for the OSX version so far), since I needed that for converting several icons and was to lazy to trace single ones step for step.

At this stage of the game the issue has been occurring for at least 4 months, it might be necessary to leave a review on the AppStore for this app.  They claim the app to be a high quality precision vector application but they can’t even get a basic fundamental editing feature to work correctly.  Maybe a review might wake up Serif to this issue, but I’m not holding my breath.

Please, please, please address this, QA or developers! Zooming in is not a solution, it is a work around. Let me have another button under the Selection tool which just hides these knobs and completely prevents resizing. Why not? - People move objects at the very least as much as they resize, if not more; so having resize be prioritized just baffles my mind.

Sorry, but this is just ridiculous. It‘s impossible to do serious work like that, since I keep resizing all the time, being required to do workarounds, slowing me drastically down. This issue hasn’t been fixed since months, nobody even cares to comment on this topic, yet it is such an obvious thing to implement. I really loved what Affinity did on the Mac, but their iPad app is just a mess. No nudge controls, entering manual values works half the time, duplication comes with a 1 sec delay, and and and...

I hope so much for a solution to the existing problems. I have also read the other tickets with the selection tool problems. It is for me one of the most important tools and should definitely work.
If basic problems in the existing apps designer and photo are not fixed the users lose confidence in these apps.
I have tried in this post to give the support everything to reproduce the problem on the basis of my AD file and to make the error description as clear as possible, so I hope for a quick solution .... please AD developer team

I have a 10.5 iPad Pro and my last update on Affinity Designer was Oct 20th. This issue seems to only get worse for me? It's counter intuitive to how I work and I swear I spend half of my time trying to select and move items only to accidentally resize and transform them just to hit undo and repeat over and over until it finally works. I REALLY need an option to JUST move an object when I want to move one, and a separate option to transform... or at least a way to disable transforming an object in the sub-menu for the move tool. This is driving me crazy and I've gone from thrilled to finally have Designer on my iPad to disappointed that it's still way faster to work on my computer with a Wacom tablet I really don't want to use anymore!

The "Create Guides" function in InDesign is one of my favourite and most-used features in that app. I create a lot of column/row based basic grids, sub-grids, and after installing Publisher and running it one of the very first few things I expected to find was a similar guide column builder, but to my astonishment it wasn't there.
However, Publisher falls utterly flat on its face due to how the handling of guides is integrated. The reason why InDesign's guides work so wonderfully well is very simple, yet effective: guides are treated just like any other object, and are attached to the selected layer you happen to be working in. This effectively means an entire system of grids and sub-grids and helper guides may be built, organized, and maintained through multiple layers. And the colours of individual guides can be changed as well allowing for very intricate and useful nested layout grids to be built.
Publisher's guides are treated like "special" things that do not "live" on any particular layer, but instead are always put in an invisible guides layer over which the user has little or no control. All guides are on or off, and cannot have individual colours, or be managed in groups/layers at all.
In short, nigh on absolutely useless for more complex layout grids. Having access to only one hidden guides layer is SO ill-conceived that I wonder if the developers actually discussed basic layout techniques and workflows with magazine and book designers and creators.
Only allowing for one singular fixed guides "layer" is a fundamental short-coming of many layout apps. Not offering a good column/row generator either is a second unforgivable mistake from the perspective of anyone laying out semi-complex layouts on a daily basis.
The combination of these two missing options in a new young DTP contender on the market is very, very unfortunate, automatically ruling it out for me or anyone even remotely interested in elaborate grid-based layouting. And even if Publisher received the best grid builder in the world, the lack of layer-based guides in this version would make it rather of limited use anyway. The two go together hand in hand.
Seeing how the guides are implemented on a rather low level in the apps architecture, I don't expect the Affinity developers to re-code this any time soon. At least, I really, REALLY want to be proved wrong here.
If these fundamental shortcomings aren't taken care of at some point, Publisher will remain of quite limited attraction to myself and fellow complex layout grid "layouters". What a shame this would be.

PS InDesign's Create Guides function is quite nice, but there are much better ones as well:
    https://www.designersbookshop.com/grid-calculator-pro-edition.html
Also, guides ought to have an option to be formulaic: for example, the guides builder in PhotoLine not only allows for guides to be built on the basis of a layer's object size and on selections, but also includes the option to create formula-based guides which automatically update if the scale of the document is changed. For example: (2 * (h)) / 5 - 0.5 cm where h is height. Now, that IS handy, I can tell you.

It *is* absolutely necessary for professional designers. A page grid, as shown by 3joern is so fundamental that it's hard to understand how this was not recognized and "baked in".

Phil K. reacted to drkanukie in Bug: "Force pixel alignment" does not always work
I spent 2 hours trying to get 9 artboards and all their background layers all aligned so I could export to the right size rather than 1 pixel bigger than it should be with a transparent edge. This is not OK as a workflow. There are tools like Sketch that make pixel alignment very easy and there is a button where you can select a object and say snap to pixels and bam no sub-pixels.
In Affinity even though the property panel looks like it's on the pixel boundary 780  it isn't because if you turn on 3 significant places on the pixels display (trick I found in forum on this issue) it's actual 780.029. I don't want to have to wrangle to 3 significant places to get my art aligned for export! Nor do I want to have to be worrying about 100ths of a pixel cluttering my property display.  If the force pixel alignment is ON then it should never allow a layer to be off the pixel grid when creating or moving it and ALL X/Y should be integral.
I have to admit I was a big fan and advocate to other UX designers of this product until now, but it's such a ridiculous thing to implement as it is that I have lost a lot of faith in it.
Stop adding new features and fix the fundamentals you are being told about by professional designers. Or stop claiming this is a professional tool because it clearly isn't. Because for all it's excellent parts it let down by flawed thinking in the fundamentals. I'm not the only voice here there are many threads here on the same topic from professional designers.
