nodeus reacted to Jhonatan S in Pencil Tool - still difficult to handle
    hi there,

I'd like to share my experience with the Pencil tool, and I think this is related to a bug topic,

first, I notice nice improvement when you convert shapes to curves. Very awesome, thanks to the team efforts 😊

But when I need to use Pencil tool. it still doesn't work as I'd like to use.
eg. trying to close the curves, they doesn't happen so well.

then I need to always activate the sculpt mode.
however doesn't work easily (as you can see on the video).

eg. When you draw a shape, the beginning and the end of each shape drawn, adds more points, making the curve not optimised, taken even more time to fix it.

as I use affinity everyday, I come only when I see a tool that I use all the time would need to have a bit more of attention.

for now I suggest to my students and followers to use the pen tool,
easy to close the shape and very well optimised.

    SUGGESTIONS (for this topic)
Pencil tool (quick draw mode) it draws the shape (example shown at the end of the video)

Clear Shape Option (Reduces the amount of nodes created, making the shape clear to adjust)

add Keyboard Shortcuts for the Close the Curve and shortcuts to the ToolBar buttons, would be awesome as well.

Please take in consideration this topic for the next upcoming improvements

While web browser's can display any SVG file, the BIMI standard (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) requires files to be saved as SVG tiny 1.2 format.
I had to go outside the Affinity family to export an SVG file in the SVG tiny 1.2 format.  I would love to be able to do it directly in Affinity Designer.

    Hi everyone,

I'm mostly a newbie to vector editing, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I've created a black and white vector graphic using Affinity Designer. The graphic will be incorporated into a printed book, and the printer needs it as a 600dpi 1-bit black and white file — I think a vector format is preferred.

My document resolution is already 600dpi, so that's covered, but I'm struggling to work out how to use Affinity's export options to save out my graphic as 1-bit. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Gabi

nodeus reacted to Samwise in XML import request
I make a LOT of use of InDesign's XML import capability. The granularity to which I can define character and paragraph styles that automatically get defined when importing has made my workflow faster than I ever thought possible (and I have XML records that can be scraped to build databases). If you could provide XML import in some fashion, I could fire Adobe and be perfectly happy with your product.
Barring an import capability, is there any information on the Affinity File Format that has been published, or is it all proprietary?
Thanks in advance for your replies

I too am interested in the ability to rename page references in the Pages Panel within Affinity Publisher.
Rather than 'Page 1', 'Page 2', etc. Julien Harant and others would like to replace those references in the Pages Panel with user definable text.
An example of the usefulness of this ability is to label 'Page 1' as 'Front' and 'Page 2' as 'Back' in a trifold layout. If a designer has several mochups of a trifold concept, or multiple trifolds for different purposes, a page labeled as 'Page 6' is far less useful than 'C-Front' (being the third mochup).
There are hundreds of uses for the ability to provide custom names for referencing pages within the Pages Panel. A page layout application is not only for creating books and multi-page brochures, but for creative layout designs. Organizing multiple samples within a document, and providing intuitive user-definable naming references is often useful. I realize artboards can be used to partially satisfy this need, though not all users are comfortable with artboards, and applications should be designed to elegantly meet the needs of its users. Regardless, artboards do not fully satisfy this need, and I believe Affinity Publisher will benefit from incorporating this capability. Referencing pages for printing, deleting, etc. can still be done using continuous page numbers, which would be displayed under page thumbnails (in the Pages Panel) adjacent to custom page names.
Affinity Team:  Please provide the ability for users to specify custom page names in the Pages Panel.

nodeus reacted to sfriedberg in Feature request: command to split text flows
Questions that involve splitting a text flow have come up a couple of times, and I'm now motivated to make a feature request.
First, let me clarify what I am not requesting, in the hope that discussion will stay focused on topic. This is not a request to insert a text frame into the middle of an existing sequence of linked text frames. This is not a request to insert frame/column/page breaks into a text flow.  This is not a request which is covered by the existing commands to link or unlink two successive text frames, when both frames contain different existing flows.
Given an existing text flow, present in a sequence of one or more linked text frames, it would occasionally be convenient to split the text flow into two distinct flows at the cursor.  Call flow 1 the part of the original text flow before the cursor, and the part of the original text flow after the cursor would become flow 2.  The text frame in which the cursor was placed would be divided into two adjacent text frames.  (See commnent next paragraph.)  The frames containing flow 1 would retain their existing links.  The frames containing flow 2 would retain their existing links.  There would be no link between the linked frames containing flow1 and the linked frames containing flow 2.  Obviously, there some reflow of flow 2 would be required.
Basically, I am looking for the functional inverse of the existing behavior when you link two text frames, each containing distinct flows.  Affinity Publisher merges the two flows.  The start of flow 2 immediately follows the end of flow 1, even if the end of flow 1 was not visible in its sequence of linked frames due to overflow.  Splitting an existing text frame (equivalently, creating a new one) is necessary in at least some cases. If there was a linked frame following the frame containing the cursor, you could unlink those two frames and let the following frame become the head frame for flow 2. That would be a pure inverse of the existing merge-flows behavior.  However, if there is no text frame linked after the frame containing the cursor, a new text frame would have to be created to contain flow 2.  I suggested simply splitting the frame containing the cursor, so together the last frame of flow 1 and the first frame of flow 2 occupy the space of the original text frame.  But this is not the only way to create and position a new text frame for this command.
If and when we get the additional functionality of linking text flows to external documents, things will become a bit more complicated.  (This is true even if splitting text flows is not added, as we already have merging.)  Presumably each text flow is optionally linked to an external document.  When flows are split or merged, if external linkage is involved, a varying number of external documents would have to be created, destroyed or modified by the splitting and merging process.

nodeus reacted to Ali in Publisher Feature Request: Impose Pages in Export to PDF
In PagePlus I used the Impose Pages tick box when exporting to PDF a lot and it was really useful. I've just discovered that this option doesn't exist in Publisher, so I'll be reverting to PagePlus for my booklets. This was the very first document I set up in Publisher, so to hit a stumbling block like this was a bit of a disappointment, although I knew that some of the features I would need might not be available.
Are there plans to add this functionality in future versions? Maybe version 2.0? 🤞

    Hi all,
I'm considering buying Designer but one thing that I can't find is if there is a way to fill an object using vector or patterns. I only find gradients and bitmap.
I know we can duplicate an object to create hand made pattern but I can't then edit the repetitions like if is a bitmap fill.
    Cheers,

I already wrote about this problem once. The interface was translated, but the sizes of the text areas were left as for the English language. As a result, users of the program who use it in another language do not see the entire text. There are two windows on the screen where this problem occurs, but in fact it is the same throughout the program. When I start to show someone that they say AP is a replacement for PS. And in response I get, "What's this? Well, if there are such childish mistakes in the program, even in the interface ... Don't waste my time, this is a child's handicraft." The level of trust in the program among new users at the initial stage tends to zero. Such problems that the user faces immediately, when starting the program ... It is painful to look at it. I really like Affinity programs and I try to tell as many people as possible about them, but the simple problems that you face immediately after launching the program and that have not been fixed for years are scary. ☹️

    Hey!! Anyone hearing?
This is still an issue on Windows after a lot of updates already.
A simple option would be to assign [ctrl+shift+click on a curve] either for deleting it or to add a node on it and leave [ctrl+click on a curve] for the other operation.
Come on, I don't think it's so difficult to get such a behaviour. Please!

I VERY STRONGLY SUPPORT ADDING THIS AS A DIRECT FEATURE - not a complicated workaround.
I need custom vector fills and swatches for draweings/images MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY DAY and having to create fill assets, create object containers and subordinate the fill asset to the container layer is absolutely not practical. The complicated work-around above is not practical for every day, repeat needs.  I have hundreds of drawings to apply this to.   As well, the images copied do not accurately reflect the fill as needed.
PLEASE, PLEASE fix / add this.  I am currently looking for another app that has this ability.  (other than going backto Serif Draw 8 legacy which does this pretty well.)

I just bought Affinity Photo and was happy. Just now I realized that the Photoshop funktion making patterns and fill any object with it is missing. At first I thoght I just didn't find it, but there really is non. It is hard to believe that such a every day task can't be done with Affinity Photo. All other Photoshop stuff is copied nicely and at some edges even better. Affinity: Please add this bread and butter feature, or I have to switch back to Photo Shop.

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Publisher).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Publisher 1.10 - I was editing Master Pages and kept having the same problem and kept having to start over.
I then saved after every tweak and discovered that it happened after I copied and then pasted frames (Text / Image).
After I made the same layout by hand (without copy/paste), I had no problem saving.
Working on Windows 10. Have plenty of space and ram. Save / Save as - neither would work after copying and pasting frames.
