  2. Darn. Well, I tried this which seems to work for now. I'll be testing the precision and tweaking as I progress. Downloaded a sine image Drew a straight line the length of the image Divided the line into segments for peaks & valleys Selected and moved alternating points to form a 'zigzag' line Smoothed the curves by selecting the nodes and using the Convert: Convert to Smooth Comparing this with the image by overlaying them, this is a fair starting point. I'll be checking against my engravings for which this will be used. Thanks everyone!!!
  3. RE wikipedia I did not find a SVG format or was able to Save As svg. But Thanks, I'll otherwise search for an SVG using Google. But thanks.
  4. RE discrete versus continuous functions - I understand. I rather need reasonably smooth approximations to a level of precision that fits the scale of my needs. I am modelling at the .01 mm scale. Better, non-tedious methods to approximate to allow this scale - or rather replicate to this level of precision. Thanks everyone - Dennis
  5. Yup - Sorry . I'm on a Windows laptop system. And I can do a graphical approximation but need a continuously scalable object. I'm hoping to exploit the built-in math functions of Affinity Designer.
  6. I have a need to create/modify vector objects using the advanced math expressions as outlined in the help manual. It is unclear how to apply then. For example sin(a) - if applying to a vertical Move, assuming units of degrees, not radians, would I use something like: [sin(45)] to get something like at attached?
  7. My problem is that this does not work for dynamic or recursive application - as the move/duplicate does allow for some functions.
  8. I agree with the original post. I have the ongoing need to have a pure sine curve. (...and nice to have, other function curves.) Manual approximation will not work for my need. (Modeling complex Guilloche patterns for a 1920's engraving rose engine.) I've tried manual approximations using the sine function and tracing images of sine and other functions manually. None of the above examples meet my needs.
  9. When doing detail work I need to zoom in for recurring edits. Resizing using the Zoom tool, the outer selection borders are often outside the view. Scrolling to the (e.g.) bottom of the election to scale then brings my working detail outside my view. Without using the Transform functionality, Is there some other selection or scaling option folks suggest? The Move / Duplicate won't work as I need to scale x and y separately. One suggested Designer option is to have separate x and y scaling in the wonderful, improved Move / Duplicate dialogue. By the way - I could also use this function in better modeling my Guilloche engraving work using a 1920's rose engine. Should I suggest x/y scaling as a new feature?
  10. First let me say that the new Affinity Designer 2.4 is fantastic. Thanks for they upgrades/added features. Suggestions for Assets Panel. 1 - When I'm using the assets panel and have scrolled down, when I ant to add a new asset from my drawing, I have to scroll all the way to the top of the assets panel to select the sub-menu/hamburger to access "Add from Selection". (See screenshot) 2 - RE Visibility. There is the option to use a dark or light asset background, but this applies to all assets. Many assets are mixed and some are better with light and some better for dark. A nice to have would be the ability to select BG options by panel or (unlikely) each asset. 3 - RE Visibility. Agree with some others' comments. Large icons / option would be nice. Thanks again Affinity!!!
  11. This is a must have as far as my work goes. I've been doing hacks to get around it - but at a cost of many hours, literally. I vote +1
  12. In addition, my strong need is that the fill is proportionally distorted as the object shape is manipulated. Wishlist for my ongoing project commitments.
  13. I didn't find that this worked. Editing in Photo then either copy/pasting to Designer or File>Edit in Designer - gave no change.
  14. I too was excited when I saw warp - especially when the HELP function showed the pattern/fill warped. (See below.) Sadly these examples are misleading as the fill is never warped - this distorting of the fill is what I was waiting for. I'm hoping and praying it will be in an update to 2.0 as a major project very much needs this.
  15. In hind sight I should have, but am wishing/ 'Tried this before and it's cumbersome - for me. Also - Unfortunately, this won't work for my work or customers. I need a real object pattern fill - especially one that I can distort with mesh/shaping. I'm hoping that with the new redesign release with the gee whizz items (Quite good ones, mind you!) that they can catch up with the basics that appear to be driving away some customers.
