    Hello !

Claude B. reacted to shanekeller in What are the Affinity Photo Extensions Features in the final build?
    Hi Lee,

Pretty much the number 1 reason why I purchased Affinity Photo (Licensed) and downloaded the Beta is that I wanted to be able to water mark my photos inside of Mac Photo App.

Also, I really liked the prospect of how Affinity turns Photos into a better photo editor.

The ability to drag in a Logo PNG file or type words over-top a photo completed the workflow I needed for Photos. I have been using Photoshop, Aperture, and Photos to manage my collections but going back and forth is a pain in the butt.

Since Aperture is discontinued I wanted to use Photos for managing the entire workflow of my personal and not-so-important photos but also use for some professional and blogging editorial uses.

I am testing Lightroom but I love the workflow created between Photos, the five MacPhun Extensions, and the possibility of a full featured Affinity extension. It kind of forms the dream team of easy photo management and sharing with powerful tools.

The biggest things missing from Photos are:

    1. Powerful Sharp & Noise tools that work
    2. Dodge & Burn tools
    3. Watermarking
    4. Skin smoothing
    5. Teeth whitening
    6. A vignette that doesn't suck
    7. And focus tools.

*There are more minor ones but the MacPhun extensions cover some of those. Affinity covers the rest and offers fantastic tools too but I wanted to access them within Photos as an extension as a fully contained workflow.

    Hope my feedback makes sense.

    Have a great day,
    Shane

I see, thanks for reply. For me, more than half of book price for delivery fee is somewhat too much for me. Delivery fee on Amazon DE to Poland for books is about 5 EUR, not 20 EUR...

I seem to be having problems getting the freebie stuff.

Problem is I receive updates via the Mac App Store but receive newsletters and have signed up to these forums using another email addie.

Tried both entering info from my Mac App Store login and forum login for the downloads, no go.

I then tried to reset my password but have yet to receive an email back on how to go about it. So, unless you guys are swamped in resetting passwords requests, I am wondering, do I have to create yet another Affinity account with a different password, entirely different from my Mac App Store, and Affinity forum ones?

    Confused, I am...

    Hi marsofearth,
Usually applications that tend to do all at once never manage to do anything particularly well. Affinity Photo and Designer serve very different goals. This should become more evident as we move forward. Neither of them are feature complete yet. There will be more Personas / new features / tools, not to mention a third application for desktop publishing. If all this were included in a single app it would become much more complex and heavy, harder to test and maintain and also harder to learn. Keeping them separate allow us to broaden the scope of each one in their particular area while still offering great flexibility since all Affinity apps share the same file format. This allows you to switch from one to another seamlessly without any type of conversions. We believe this is the best compromise between having a limited all-in-on app or a suite of powerful but disconnected/unrelated apps.

    Hi MacGueurle,
In the Plug-ins Search Folders you must enter the path where you have chosen to instal the plug-ins (the folder where the .plugin files are located - NOT the plugin support files/apps which by default are installed in a folder named Nik Collection inside the Applications folder).

Then click the Authorise Global button, then Authorise from the dialog that will appear. Finally tick Allow "Unknown" plugins to be used and restart Affinity.

Agreed. I especially love the "...several of our users" bit. Unfortunately, I think it confirms that we are in for a long wait from Nik.

I'm just hoping that the Affinity team can make some headway on the remaining components given that some have already been ported.

Update: I received the following back this morning from Nik:

"I appreciate you taking the time to send in your feedback. We have received a compatibility request for Affinity Photo from several of our users. As we do value the feedback we receive from our photographers, I will be sure to provide it to the appropriate team for their review and consideration for future compatibility updates."

Aperture was my main software program along with NIK plugins.  I never deleted iPhotos so basically I download to iPhoto and transferred to Aperture to correct.  I love Affinity however don't want to give up Aperture or Nik.  Particularly need Aperture for storage and cataloguing.  Have been warned by others not to use Photos for different reasons.  Am thinking what difference does it make if I download to Photos or iPhoto. Question--when using Affinity on Raw it works fine.  If I transfer a previously edited photo say 24MB after Aperture and perhaps NIK it is reduced to 200-400 kb after editing in Affinity.  This is my reading if I send the photo back to Aperture or out in an email.  Am I doing something wrong in my initial setup.  I drag and drop.  Set to photo, custom, pixels, RGB Adobe.  Occasionally when there is no cropping I will set to 18x12.  I work with a Nikon 7100.

    Thanks,  Daisy

PS  Does Affinity work better if Photos is the storage site.

Perhaps I imagined it. If anyone knows of such a video OR knows of a good process for doing this in Affinity Photo, please share. I know this is a feature on the road map, just need to know best way to do it now.
    Thanks!

I feel the same. I think Affinity is the best software i purchased since long and i do want to try and learn to work with this program.

But i am also a very beginner - have never worked with PS or some kind. And i get stuck a lot of times trying to follow the tutorials...  :o and i can't always figure out what i am missing out exactly.

So my tactic is to follow all the tutorials and try to reproduce them. What happens most of the time is that even if i follow the steps very closely, the magic happening in the tut vid's do not happen on my photo :( .

For instance, i am now trying to reproduce the Frequency Separation tutorial with a photo of my own. Around 1:50 in the video the healing brush is used, in the low frequency filter. The spots i see on the skin of the person on my photo just don't go away?! I even don't see anything happening. No spot is being removed, no change at all....

My question is: can i download the used photos in the tutorials to use those to try to reproduce the tutorials.
So i know the problem is not that i am using an inadequate photo?  :)

Any ideas to enhance my beginners tactic?

Thanks for the new outline showing the newer additions. And thank you for all the wonderful tutorials.  I've watched all the originals and they are really great.  I agree that a printed manual would soon be out of date, given Affinity's rate of fixes and request-fulfillment, but a downloadable PDF would be great to have as a desktop reference.

The table of contents for Affinity Photo that was posted in the thread’s start, is very, very helpful indeed! Thanks  :)

    @Affinity

I would strongly recommend to also put this table of contents (with the links) ON the very site with the video tutorials - that would help new or potential users a lot IMHO.   ;)

    Also:

please do add such a table of contents for Affinity DESIGNER too.

    ____

    regarding the videos:

    - some video tutorials could be a bit longer to my mind.

Of course that depends from person to person, but if a video was just 1-2 minutes longer, some things would become clearer more easily, I think.

    Thank you for listening  :)

I did not test the app further before release, purchased it and... NIK filters still are not possible to use (license is not recognized). So that is STILL the SAME problem. Makes app useless for me regarding photo.

I do not use many filters, only Filter Forge and NIK. but these are probably essential to many.
So what is holding Affinity back making it possible to use them?

Affinity software use the standard Mac App Store license, so you can install it in on two computers for commercial individual use or up to five computers in a home environment.

Frequently, the developers have to adapt the plug-ins to the software (in this case Photo). So if you want to see Photo supported, request it with the plug-in company.

    Hi Triniart,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums.
Affinity Photo supports Photoshop compatible plug-ins; however, some of them aren't still working correctly.
To check whether a specific plug-in is working take a look at this thread. We are continuously improving this, so keep an eye on it for news.

Before complaing about response time, I think you need to take into account that:

    1. Affinity/Serif are probably in a completely different timezone than you are,

    2. They are dealing with a HUGE amount of support calls and messages during the launch period of Affinity Photo.

I've only been on here for a week or so, but I have been VERY impressed at not only the speed with which somebody from Affinity or one of the Mods will respond, but also the fact that several of those who DO respond are the actual developer team. So you're talking directly to the programmers/coders.

For a $50 piece of software, that is as sophisticated and powerful as Affinity Photo is, and considering that this is the initial release, I am amazed at what the app will do.

Sure, there are some teething bugs to get sorted out - there always are. Things like tweaking the UI such as your concerns, or things like getting some of the Photoshop plugins to work in Affinity Photo - still to be fixed.

But given that the programmers are trying to divide their time between actually coding the tweaks, responding on here, and getting some sleep, I think you're being unnecessarily harsh and too quick to jump to criticism. I'd put money on you getting a response from Affinity within the next few hours. The initial post on this thread was still only 5 hoours ago - and you're accusing them of not responding?  Holy mackerel - this isn't a Skype call or a real-time chat...!

That is just not true. I've never seen a company more involved in a forum.

    Hi Cruizer1,

We're currently developing the help for Affinity Photo as I write. You should able to find what you need via the Help menu using the Search box, but the forums can obviously provide assistance if you can't find what you're looking for. Let me know what you think of the Help so far.

I'm confident that the content there should get Beta testers up and running.

We're updating topics as we go to track functionality changes and beta feedback like your own. Content will be fluid as we're hoping for an excellent learning resource on release.

    Thanks
