Raff reacted to GregTH9457 in Need lasso selection tool in Designer and Publisher
The major deficiency of the Affinity V2 Suite is the lack of a lasso selection tool in Designer and Publisher.  The rectangle selection tool does not provide enough control over the selection process to accurately select objects in a complex, closely spaced, vector drawing.  In addition, while the node tool provides for a lasso selection of already selected nodes, it does nothing to help select and move other objects, such as text.  My designs are often very complex with closely spaced objects that can't be selected with a rectangular section tool.
Both Illustrator and CorelDraw have lasso selection tools, because the free-form selection of objects is essential for manipulating critical vector drawings.  Although I have purchased v2 of the Affinity Suite, I will continue to use CorelDraw for all of my vector drawing needs because of this deficiency.
I hope to see a lasso selection tool in a upcoming v2 update, which will make the Affinity Designer more usable and competitive for creating vector graphics.
    Best,
    Greg

Aw, come on... This can't be the point! Subscription plans for software/apps are a rather new kind of annoyance; before that, almost every piece of software was sold on a one-time payment base and this has been working fine for decades – without ruining the respective software companies. And there's still some who do.
I – for myself – have meanwhile found an acceptable alternative for my Samsung tablet: PhotoPad from NCH software. Okay, it's far from being as great as Affinity Photo would be, but it's subscription-free, has a traditional user interface (rather than a smartphone-centric GUI), allows local corrections and even offers working with layers. And I'm confident that the little it leaves to desire will be addressed in the near future. So in the meantime, I can do without Affinity Photo; I still hope Serif might some day change their minds, but if they don't, I've got something to work with which suits my basic needs. Amen.

I agree, I think an Android version-especially of Affinity Photo, if not the whole suite--would be fabulous. It's a shame that you only offer software for Apple IOS when Andoid is considerably more popular worldwide. Although the design industry loves Mac and Apple products, many have opted for Windows and Android for economic reasons.

I know this stat is 2 years old but consider this:
    iOS sales 2018: 217.72 million
    Android sales 2018: 1.56 billion!
    Thanks for the consideration.

Yes, a simple vectorization would be a good start. But I suspect that Serif is secretly planning its leap into the broad field of AI. So, what would be more appropriate than to start this jump with an INNOVATIVE vectorization tool?

Windows lets you choose which drive an MSIX-based program will install to, in Settings. (Though some users have reported that it doesn't work for them, which sounds more like a Windows issue than a Serif issue).
In any case, you've had the option since January 27 to install using an MSI/EXE-based installer. So if you really don't like MSIX, just use that one.

    OH BOY .
This install IS A MESS. My opinion is very low with  SERIF right now.
We need  a regular installer for all the reasons others have mentioned above.  I am awaiting a fix before i activate.
Otherwise perhaps is back to the ADOBE scams. At least they let you CHOOSE how you run your software.

I've tried moving the Apps but they no longer run, the App icons are grey and do not execute. I am in the same situation as Matty above and I think this is a very poor show not to have alternate solutions for this. £90 is great value only when you can actually efficiently use the product. I've been a Serif user for decades and this is quite disappointing.

Raff reacted to Dan C in BUG in HSL adjustment
    Hi @Raff,
    Thanks for your report!
I can confirm there are 2 reasons for this happening - firstly the image you have selected is at 651DPI, whereas your document is at 300DPI.
When using the Merge command with different DPIs between the document and layer, the layer will be resampled to the documents DPI.
Equally, the layer isn't currently Pixel aligned, meaning anti-aliasing will occur, post merge.
To avoid this, please do the following:
Select the Pan Tool, then change the Units on the Context Toolbar to Pixels Select the Move Tool, then select your Layer and use the Transform Studio to ensure the X&Y values are full pixels (this can also be done by moving the Pixel layer with Snapping and 'Force Pixel Alignment' enabled)  Right-click on the Pixel layer and select Rasterise (this convert the image from 651DPI to 300DPI, to match the document Now, merge the HSL adjustment and you should find no blurring occurs 2022-07-23 13-47-01.mp4
    I hope this helps

I am in the same position. Photography user of Adobe and LR more or less everyday. Purchased all Affimity apps to support Serif.
I will leave Adobe as soon as I have a DAM (preferably within Affinity) that replace LR.
With over 100 K photos I need a DAM that can do what LR can. The fact that LR leave the orignal photo and save changes outside the original is cruical!
Sorry to say that I am not using Affinity very much but when (?) I can purchase a new DAM I will also stop useing LR and PS!

If you look at it from a workflow perspective, the DAM missing is the next most important element to give customers full autonomy from Adobe.
Professional or engaged amateurs alike produce way more footage than they „need“ or can process. So the first step is always to get this flood under management and do some initial steps to organize and balance this as a resource. This is what Lightroom does, and it is pretty good at it.
Once you start using Lightroom, you are dedicated to the rest of CC.
The current alternative solutions all lack the full integration of the following workflow, that is set to create satisfaction and/or money from the „stars“ selected before. Without a fully integrated DAM, the Affinity Suite is like an impressive building set on a weak foundation.

    I completely agree!
    I have the same problem.
It would be enough if they grouped the saving options (different formats) in the "save as" command, as almost all other software do.
Using a double "save" and "export" command only creates complications.

There I was with Affinity 1.10... Hoping...
From within my own little organised folder structures. I open a simple jpg in affinity...
..."save as" and "export" completely ignores the source path for that simple little jpg - as if it is completely unimportant.
If Affinity made a car, it would be a fantastic drive, efficient.... economic...
....but you'd have to clamber in and out through the boot every time.

I just joined the Affinity, bought everything they make in order to switch from Adobe. Checked ton of things beforehand, and then BUM, back to Stone Ages on fundamental feature. Discussing with designers if this is necessary is borderline stupid. It is more functional and that is it. Being silent and not acting for years on this topic is just plain mean.
Affinity, what is wrong with you people, this is not even a feature this is a bug. Who and for what reason is preventing this mistake to be corrected? Answer this to the community of your users.

First: Affinit Designer is really great - thanks to the Affinity team! (Former-time Corel user, then Inkscape, now switched to Affinity due to CMYK and better color management)

    My request:
I often use Save-As to generate numbered versions of files (as backups, and so that when I discuss them with a client, we can refer to which version we are talking about). In the Save As dialog, it appears that AD defaults to the folder where I last saved anything. This is very tricky when working on files that lie in different folders. To me, the current behaviour is somehow unexpected, and I often accidentially store files in the wrong project's folder.

The same happens when exporting, to PDF for instance.

I can imagine that people might want to always export all PDFs to a certain folder no matter where the curent file is, so maybe we should also consider this use-case.

    My suggestion is:
1.) Save As: Default to the folder where the current file lies.
2.) Export (pdf etc, but also for palettes): Default to the folder where I last exported the respective file type when the current document was open.

(Maybe its not a good idea to store file paths in documents (like the export paths necessary for 2.). For me, it would be ok if this only works for the last, say, 30 files I worked on, so it could be stored somewhere in the application options storage, not in the document files.)

    Would this cover all use-cases?

    Best,
    Philipp

Hi guys, I spent some time communicating with them on this subject and what I found out is very disappointing, but not surprising at all. Just look how old is this post. When I asked support to talk with somebody that can influence change then I got explanation that this is not their policy. Very long story short, they are not consumer oriented business but self serving company. They operate in such manner that business and programming are separated "undisturbed" by users stupid requests, comments, etc.
If they have a designers in the company, they are worst of the kind or have no word in any decision making, either way as non existent.
But, this is just one issue, there are other issues in essential user experience which unfortunately confirms how bad, arrogant and self-centred this organisation is.
I would forgot about Affinity as a valid business solution. Potential is there, but if you are serious about business you are running, there is no financial validation to compromise your organisation with this pure Trump style circus.
I will try to use them for my personal projects where I don't have to depend on their sadistic user treatment and unfortunately pay Adobe when things are serious and I don't want my or my team members heads to explode on elementary human centricity.
How long I will last.... not sure.

+1 for this feature. All of my music software does this. My video editing software. Pretty much everything. Affinity is fantastic, but why not get even better? Would love to have it default to the folder I originally saved it in and then choose a new folder later on if need be since I easily do 2-3 different projects at a time in Designer or Publisher and much more often save in project folders than I do in some new folder I navigate to.

I waste a lot of time looking for save as files and exported files because they don't go into the same folder as where the source file was opened from. If my other apps can save as or export to the same location as the source file opened, I really don't understand why Affinity can't do the same. I've been on Macs since 1990 and this is the first instance that I'm seeing this sort of behavior. It's baffling why an enhancement request that been opened since 2016, that's FIVE YEARS can't be accomodated.

    Situation:
I often open files via the "open with" function in Windows (e.g. in Explorer or a thumbnail viewer I navigate to a folder, right click a file, select open with Affinity App of choice).
If I then like to save the file or export it, the Affinity Apps defaults to the "last used folder" but not the one from where the "open with" file came from.
I would like the Apps to use the location where the opened file is located.

It works in Pen mode and the other 2 mult-segment modes.
But Line mode is defined as being for single-segment lines. Possibly that is incompatible with the idea of adding on to the original curve, since that would create a multi-segment curve?
Pen mode should be fine for what you're doing, if you remember to hit Esc before starting the next segment.
