Thanks for clarifying, Alex. I was misreading the online Help info for the default shortcuts (but it's better to specifically give the command, in any case, as shortcuts can mean different things ).
That feels wrong to me, and I can confirm that I also see that behavior on the iPad when doing Merge Selected, with pixel layers in a hidden group.

In all apps you can use the Option (macOS and iPad) or Alt (Windows) modifier on the expand chevron in the layers panel. If you hold the modifier that will now expand all groups, layers and other nested items within the parent, and going the other way will collapse them all. This provides a more convenient / accessible way to achieve the "Expand Selection" and "Collapse Selection" options which are available in the right click layers menu on desktop. For iPad this is the first time this function has been available at all (requires using the ⌥ modifier with command controller, or ⌥ key on a connected keyboard.

Keyboard shortcuts have now been added to change the blend mode of the current layer(s), or paint brush tool.
Holding Shift with + or - will go to the next or previous blend mode in the list. Additionally, you can use any of the shortcuts in the attached table to change immediately to a specific blend mode. These can also be customised (as well as assigning shortcuts to other blend modes where a default shortcut hasn't been given) within preferences.
This will change the blend mode of the currently selected layer(s) (in all apps, all platforms including iPad with keyboard attached), unless you are using the Paint Brush Tool (Pixel or Photo persona) in which case the shortcuts will change the blend mode of the current brush.
Please leave any feedback or notes of unexpected behaviour for this new functionality in this thread.

First of all the auto select drop down in move tool which was added to Affinity Photo in V2 has now been added to both Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher, as requested numerous times from customers. This now allows you to optionally disable the move tool auto selecting objects when you click on them. This can be particularly useful when moving and transforming objects which maybe within designs where you can accidentally select something else, or you are working at a zoom level where it's hard to get the hit zone to drag-move an object. Now if you have an object selected and have auto select turned off you can drag anywhere on your document to move it.
You will see this option as a check box (icon on iPad) to toggle auto-select on or off, followed by a dropdown menu:
The drop down gives you the following options
Default - This is default behaviour, clicking on any objects or groups will select them.
Objects / Layers - This will ignore any groups and automatically drill to select any child object you click on. This saves you needing to keep double clicking or cmd-clicking to drill into groups in complex designs.
Groups - This has limited use, but is another option you can choose if you want auto select to only select groups. i.e. if you click on an object which is not part of a group nothing will be selected, if you click on an object which is part of a group the group will be selected.
Under (iPad only) - this will toggle your selection through the z-order of the layer stack in the case of objects which are stacked on top of each other. This achieves the same as previously setting the selection target to under (or holding alt).
Note:
Now this drop down has been added the previous context toolbar option of "Allow selection to consider items inside of groups" has been removed. This is because that gave the same behaviour as what "Auto Select: Objects" now does from the new drop down.
On iPad the previous Selection Target menu has been removed from the move tool context menu as any functionality which was previously possible with those options can be achieved using this new feature.

I was working on a document when I decided to save my work. The save progress bar hanged at ~50% for about a minute and then I got this error message: "Save failed because access to the file was lost". See screenshot below. Of course, I lost all my work on this document. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I get this issue in the past month or two. This didn't happen with Affinity Photo version 1. It only started happening after I upgraded to V2. Kindly look into this major issue and fix it ASAP or I will be forced to move back to Adobe. I can't afford losing work, time and money due to this problem anymore.

Overall, it demonstrates that you have another skill set, have successfully attended a course and received the official accreditation, and more than likely if the company doesn't use Affinity software, that you'll be able to pick up whatever they do use, quickly.
Not everyone who uses Affinity or Adobe are professionals in the field of, say, graphic design, however knowing how to use the programs might just give you an edge over someone else as there maybe an element of it in the role.
At the end of the day, it's hardly a big issue is it? Merely something the company could arrange so that new learners have a course to use to learn how to use the program, and receive a certificate at the end of it. Just a small, positive thing.
In the same way that Adobe (pantomime boooooooooo) does their acredited certification for Photoshop/Illustrator etc, does Affinity have any plans in the future to do their own 'Affinity Certified' certificate? You could have a foundation, intermediate and advanced level. I would most definitely be interested!
No - the history feature has nothing to do with streamlining.
History is written in full every time we make a save, if you have the option turned on. The history forms part of the central document state. It's the pixel data that we can efficiently save as required. History will contain pixel data references - and we don't need to resave the pixel data every time - just the structural data required for the document.
Every time we do a save, we write all the changes to the end of the file. That way we don't have to form a complete new file every time we save. As old data is not removed, we track the amount of obsolete data in the file. Streamlining is a housekeeping process that defragments the file, and is performed after a save - it just removes the obsolete data.
You need to be more specific about your performance issues. Generally, any performance issues are not due to saving and loading your document, so we would need to investigate further.
Streamlining happens when 33% of the file is redundant (replaced or deleted) data. When that happens the file is restructured to remove all the dead bits.
Most of the data in a file will likely be raster/pixel data. In order to cause a streamline, you generally have to be overdrawing on existing pixel layers, or deleting pixel layers. Adding new layers will not generate redundant data, so a streamline is less likely.
To force a streamline you can do a Save-As to a new file. The new file will always be a streamlined version.
This is after opening a TIFF. I don't use Photo for raw processing, I just open developed TIFFs and always get a snapshot by default. The only time there's not one is when I stitch a pano or build a focus stack. I'm on Windows 11, if that matters.
So you're saying we currently need to Save As but at some point we thereafter won't?
Right now, it's very typical for a ~130MB TIFF to by default end up as a ~300MB afphoto file, with no edits -- Just open and save. Sometimes after deleting the snapshot an resaving it will drop to ~125MB, but by no means every time.
For what it is worth here on my Mac if I open a raw file there is no snapshot. If it is another format then when I open a PNG for instance there is a Snapshot of the Background layer. If I place a PNG in a new document there is no Snapshot.
I would do a Save As as that should trigger the streamlining we do on afphoto files (but not currently).
Unless I'm mistaken, this is already off, isn't automatic and any Snapshots that appear in the Snapshots panel would have been added by the user.
I'll raise this with the QA team, as has been pointed by @Old Bruceyou do get a Snapshot layer when opening an image file like a PNG/JPG and there isn't a way to disable that from what i know, other than deleting it manually.

Thanks for uploading the files.
If you view the Snapshot panel (Window>Snapshots) you'll see there is a snapshot, which will be where the bulk of the size is coming from. Deleting this and then using File>Save As should result in a much smaller file, however there is a bug we have logged where deleting the Snapshot layer doesn't reduce the file size. I will update that bug report and link back to this thread.
If you recreate that file, don't add a snapshot, you should find it stays much much smaller in size.
