In this maner I found the "cmd +" and the "cmd -" for zooming very good, but it should zoom the selection or if nothing is selected the mouse-cursor should be center for zoom.

Thank you for taking care of it. Since it worked in the old version and if Serif fixed a problem with the links, I will probably wait for the beta version. The chances seem to be good that it will solve the problem.

Thanks for reporting this. It is triggered by having Allow advanced features ticked, and by the bitmap fill on the stroke. That stroke doesn't make much difference to the result, so you can probably delete it. It's the lowest object in the embedded documents with the hearts. We'll fix the bug for 1.6.

Markus Dierolf got a reaction from A_B_C in Colourprofile, filesize, embedding
Thanks Lee, but as Fixx reportet, for Europe "U.S. Web" is no common standard, but only Serif knows where the most customers are living ... ;)

Beside this the colour profile for in Germany commonly used profiles like "ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc" adds about 1.7mb to the file, and almost all official eci-profiles have this size. But again what was the point:
Mac: I create a new AD file with a genereic profile and save it. No profile will be saved within this file.
Win: I create A new AD file and have to select any profile, but there ist no "Generic CMYK" to select. So if I select any profile, it will be embedded automatically.

So I think the Generic Profile-problem musst be solved for this on my Win machine, maybe as R C-R noted with the Mac one. I'll give that a try if I find the time this weekend. It is not a really fatal, it is just a little "different". Ok, I could work still on my Mac, aber nowadays my Win10 machine is much more flexible, has more power and is cheaper :( so most of the work will be done there.

Our developers are aware of this issue and i'm sure they will improve this limitation in the future :) It's only possible to define a Spot Colour when creating a Global Colour at the moment.

    Hello Markus,

The "mixed language" thing is a known issue - translation lags behind development at the moment, so it will be weird for a while but complete translations will be available in a build in a few weeks time.

The profile thing is a bug - I will raise it with the relevant people..

Thanks for your help so far with the testing :)

Markus Dierolf reacted to MEB in How Do I Create A Lighter Weight Font?
    Hi andonbray,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
The best/correct way to solve this would be to use a lighter weight of the font. If that's not possible a quick n'dirty way to do it is to subtract an expanded stroke from the letters.
Here's a small clip showing how to do it (no sound).

Markus Dierolf reacted to MEB in AP transparency scanned text
    Hi Markus,
I don't know what type of scanned text you're dealing with (script, block of text from a book) but here's some suggestions:
    - Have you tried selecting the scanned text layer and change the Source Layer Ranges in the Blend Options dialog to get rid of the white?
Click the cog icon on the top right of the Layers panel to access it. You can still change the layer Blend mode of the scanned text layer to Multiply to improve the result. Sample file attached (click the cog icon and change the mid point in the graph to adjust).

    - The Erase White Paper filter (menu Filters ▸ Colours ▸ Erase White Paper) may also work if you previously create a rough selection to protect the text from becoming partially transparent thus affecting only the boundaries.

Yes, this is definitely needed. I have recently decided to take the plunge and forced myself to work exclusively with Designer and Photo. Until that point I thought that both apps offered pretty good functionality. But since I started using them exclusively I find myself wanting to switch back to Adobe CS because there are so many basic features missing from Affinity apps.

I believe in this suite of apps and so I will continue using it as I believe that many of these features are close by. I really do hope that the company will prioritise implementing what many consider essentials over the new and merely interesting. At the same time I appreciate that this suit is being developed as a blank slate trying not to imitate or rely on old techniques. I'm just a little impatient ;-)

    cheers,

Just wondering ... all hate the Adobe Apps - certainly for the subscription modell - and want instantly a fully featured suite of tools that cost a fraction, has no subscription and is (at least nearly) as good as the Adobe Apps today - ideally with the same shortcuts and 100% interoperability. But PageMaker, Photoshop, XPress, CorelDraw, ... have taken a long time to evolute to be there were they are. Sure, I also want the Publisher as soon as possible for my prepress and design demands, all Apps bugfree with a lot of features, but sometimes we must be patient. It needs time to get a stable, feature rich, affordable software suite for publishing, illustration and photos. The staff of Serif Affinity listen to their users here and we all can help together to get a better product. And we are lucky that they are developing a mac style intuitiv software - and not only port the Serif counterparts for Windows (PagePlus, DrawPlus, ..). to Mac which are usefull, but not as half as intuitiv as the Affinitys Apps :)

    Hi Diller,
I see your points and it's true (and expected i believe) that Publisher will go trough a development process as Photo and Designer. That's how software matures and grows.
Until a year and half away (a little more actually) there was no alternatives at all. Nobody was even discussing this. Affinity is a new line of software, started from scratch so naturally it won't be able to "replace" a 25 years old suite from one day to the next. Specially one that's dominating the market for so long and that a lot of people are used to work with.

I don't think it's fair to look at Affinity at this point for what it lacks compared to the competition. Instead i would hope people will look at it for what it already offers and for the possibilities it opens in the future with continuous development.

Markus Dierolf reacted to R C-R in Modify a Star Shape?
There are three different star tools in AD: star, double star, & square star. The first has 3 red control handles, the second just 2, & the third just one. The values they set (plus the number of points) also appear on the context toolbar & may be set from there as well as by dragging the control handles.

Converting to curves removes all the control handles & turns the shape into a curve with individual editable nodes.

One single thing: Why is “Artboard” spelled “ArtBoard” in the German help files and in the app itself? That makes my eyes stumble … I could rather live with the cumbersome “Zeichenfäche” …

Purpose: Features / Improvements / Fixes
    Status: Release Candidate
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it. Please note that if you use features which are only present in the Beta version then save your document, it will no longer open in the Mac App Store version.

This is a Release Candidate build. It is our intention to submit this for review to Apple in the first week of December. Any help you could offer to stabilise and refine the product at this stage will be very gratefully received :)  We won't be implementing any new features now for this version and we will be focusing on stabilising the product for the immediate future. We will obviously start adding more features again as soon as this update goes live.

Features / Improvements / Fixes   - Implemented font-fallback logic. This means that users typing characters which are not in the current font should see the character represented by a fallback font automatically - Artboards can now be dragged around by their labels
    - Artboards now show guides and grids clipped to the current artboard. Margins update correctly during resizing artboards - Artboards maintain their own snapping grid and show them correctly, clipped to the current artboard - Ruler origin and Transform panel translation is aware of artboards now and correctly reflects the artboard origin. - Artboards now automatically appear in the Export Persona - Added ‘New Layer’ menu item (we already had ‘New Pixel Layer’ but had interestingly forgotten to add ‘New Layer’!) - Recently used fonts section of the font dropdown now also includes all fonts in the current document - Fix for crash when closing documents - Miscellaneous translation improvements - PSD export now handles Registration colour and tint. Miscellaneous import improvements for compatibility with other PSD originators - Fix for rotation and shear not working reliably from the Transform panel - Fix for redraw issues while transforming objects with wide strokes - Fix for groups of horizontal or vertical lines causing stability issues in some cases - Export Slice stability improvements - Improved snapping for the Fill Tool - TIFF export now correctly supports alpha in all colour formats - Fix for importing very large TIFF images - Many PDF export improvements - Print panel now restores itself correctly to the last used settings

    Candace, Markus
I'm on a Swedish keyboard and the keys [ ] is hard to use. I always (in both AFD and AFP) use alt+ctrl and then drag with the mouse (mouse button down) to adjust the brush size. Very handy!

    AFD: drag horizontally for size.
AFP: drag horizontally for size - drag vertically for hardness
