Not at all, I am asking for a setting to override the system default DPI, that proves to be unwieldy in practice ! if the default does not work well, it's either 1.change one program or 2.change every program but one
I understand this so well, and this is frustrating because you could be doing something, but instead you choose to settle with "it's not my fault", which is and never will be a fitting answer for anyone. This reminds me of when Torvalds shut a developer down because they had made a similar decision : "the problem is on their end, let them fix it" (paraphrasing). But the kernel was shipping and there has to be something done about it, so they ifdef'd that particular fix on their side, because it had to work, right ? you may have heard of this story. The point being, when you interface with an OS/other programs and something is wrong that's obviously the other party's fault, fixing it on your end doesn't make it your fault -All that matters is that users are able work with your solution as swiftly as possible, and you are bound to be praised for acknowledging that, at least by me.
This was particularly exerting to write out, English not being my language, so I'll leave it at that for the moment. I am glad you are staying to discuss this though, over your initial relunctant...ness (?). Anyway cheers !

Thanks for the tip ! however that sounds an awful lot like "user having to go in and configure some UI scale that is specific to each application".
All because AP does not let me scale its interface. It looks like ideology may be a hindrance here ? should we really be forced into reconfiguring our entire systems just because an editor makes the choice of not providing a simple solution for their users, based on the belief that "all should be consistent" ? Let's not be Apple, please... anyway I made my point in the previous post -I hope you guys will be able to hear it. Thank you for your attention,

I agree that would be ideal, but "ideal" is the enemy of "good" : many programs simply don't take Windows' GUI scale into account, and Windows scales them forcefully into a double pixel size. Some others do take it into account, but imperfectly : texts are truncated, UI elements overlap one another, etc (GTK2 based programs namely have a lot of problems). And finally, I would like to be allowed to scale a particular program's GUI differently than I do another, because the work that happens there is different, and so are the needs, can you see what I mean ? Blender does it, Houdini does it, Krita does it, the few "desktop" programs that I use do it at least to some extent (Foobar, Notepad++, etc) In essence it's really a binary choice : either you make you entire userbase wait for most existing programs to correctly implement Windows' GUI scale (potentially years), or you provide a handy way to circumvent that so that people can work in the meantime (bold for emphasis).

I also am an idealist, but sometimes we have to be pragmatic : several users have expressed the need for such an "GUI scale override" over the years -they're not throwing a fit, they have valid reasons. Ultimately stuff has to work -and when it doesn't, the end user does *not* care whether it's some application's fault or some other's. Please give me the choice to scale that GUI, Mark... I am not about to go nag a hundred contributors in fifteen different FOSS and proprietary projects to ask them to respect Windows' GUI scale parameter, hoping that everything will be fixed within the next decade. This is called a workaround, and it's filthy, but sometimes we have to get our hands and our pencils dirty.
    Thank you for your attention,

    Hello,
that's the thing : I don't scale my Windows interface because it makes other programs render incorrectly, so I am also stuck with a super small AP GUI. This thing should be handled at the program level, because users have different needs in different programs, it's really that simple. Hopefully since the interface scaling tech is there already, you can provide your users with a way to override the system setting.
    Thank you,
    Hadrien

These issues has been often reported, even by me ...UI and fonts too small and with bad contrast.
They probably can't solve it or they just don't want to!

As being old programmer, the first thing to consider is to make programs UI flexible and sizable. It's not even difficult.

Yes, I understand, thank you for the details. I don't claim that I could fix it in a day. It is just frustrating for me (and a few others here, and probably a few more who don't niggle about it) that I would like to but cannot use Affinity because of this. And what still surprises me is how everyone else has apparently been able to do it. Can't be an issue with the skills of the developers, otherwise they could not have developed such apps in the first place.
Anyway, I am not really here to annoy. If it's just me, feel free to ignore. Just thought it would be good for Affinity to know where users have problems.

… and a three year old statement emerges to the surface again! At this time the UI was much worse to use than after the actual revisions. But obviously there is still some work to be done!

As a workaround you only can reduce your screen/monitor resolution. That way every item appears larger, page or artboard size included.
Agree. Especially with a dark user interface, the selected items of the user interface (buttons) are hard to detect: their black background is too close to the dark gray around it. If you lighten the gray a little, it the black would be easier to see.
Unfortunately, changing the UI gamma does not improve the image, but only shifts the brightness of the entire UI, the UI black of the selected included. Instead, it would make sense to influence the contrast.

    Hi,

Don't get me wrong but I don't have a high resolution screen to reduce the resolution just for the lack of Affinity.
I really wonder that the developers did not catch this point on an earlier step of the development process.
Especially on Macs we have very high resolutions since several years now.
A big player on the imaging software market should know this and provide an professional way to give the users a comfortable way to scale up the UI elements as they need.
This topic appears already several times in different threads on this Affinity forum and hopefully there will be a solution soon!
Again, I really recommend to take a look at Blender. I did not find any other software right now which makes it so easy to scale any UI element just by one simple value!

    Hello,

I am brandnew to Affinity tools and downloaded Affinity Photo Trial yesterday. Up to now I am very impressed!
But I have a problem. I use it on an iMac (from 2011) with 27 inch screen and El Capitan.
The UI symbols, icons, bars, buttons, etc. appear very small on my high resolution screen. The only thing I found is to set the 'Font UI size' to large.
This makes it a littlebit better but all toolbar buttons, slider buttons, nodes of curves etc. appear very small so it is not very comfortable to see and to use.
One has to be very precise to reach a certain button / icon etc. if it is only 2 mm on screen!
Also the guides (the blue lines you drag out of the ruler) have a width of only 1 pixel and it is very difficult to see.

Also the subwindows like e.g. curve, levels, etc. appear realtively small (around 8 cm in width on my screen).
This is very small in width if I should judge the curve, histogram values or whatever, I prefer to have bigger analyzing windows because then I can see more details.

Is there any way to increase the size of all UI elements?

    Thanks a lot!

I wonder if size could be made more configurable?  Many might want the interface to look like the mac interface but some of us want and need larger fonts

It's about the font size only in the layer panel. All other fonts used to operate the program are correct. The previous versions of beta and 1.6 have plain fonts, you have unnecessarily changed it in version 1.7.0 251 Beta.
By changing font size to 125% in windows 10 all the fonts in the program are enlarged, also by enlarging the panels, which causes the program to get clogged on the screen.

Maybe it's a correction software-wise, which I can appreciate. But a very bad decision regarding the UI.
Sure. Main monitor 2560 x 1080 @ 96 dpi, an auxiliary one 1366 x 768 @ 96 dpi. Windows is at 100%. Here's a screenshot. If anyone pays close attention it is easy to see how many different font sizes and variants you use in the Layers panel at the same time.

The smaller ones are pretty to read here (of course we are out of context), but a pain to use everyday. Let me also remind you that on an ultrawide monitor the layer panel may be quite far away from the work area.
I don't think forcing anyone to change the whole Windows UI for just one application is a good idea.

It might be better to implement the same text-size UI preference you have for Mac. Or, lacking that, to consider that perhaps the UI should be different in this area between Mac and Windows

You are probably not taking into account that most Macs use high dpi monitors while most monitors attached to Windows machines are low dpi like grafkom's and mine. Please revert this change ASAP, or provide an option. You already have lots of problems and bugs to solve, you don't need to create new ones.

Exactly, the font in the layer panel is now too small and unreadable compared to earlier versions of Beta and version 1.6.
Please go back to the previous size or add the option to change the size of the font in the layer panel as you can now change the size of the thumbnails.
Also, the thumbnails in the layer panel showing the text and text in the frame are now so small that for a moment I was wondering what it could be.
And one more thing. Layer coloration is possible only when choosing 7 colors (faded colors), why only so much and why you can not create your own colors?

Hmmmm... Better call it a change, I'm not sure it is an improvement over the previous versions. The font used is too small at 96 dpi (unless you are less than 40 -- not my case). The previous font is much clearer and easy to read. Ideally this should be a setting, I wouldn't mind going through zipped XML or JSON files to change display fonts. Thanks a lot for the other improvements, though.

I previously posted about this HERE.
Changing the display scaling to 125% on a desktop isn't a good solution as it makes everything too big.  The jump between 100% display scaling and 125% display scaling is too big and setting a custom display scaling between 100% and 125% isn't officially supported.
As there is no way to adjust the text size within the Affinity Software itself, I think it would be reasonable that Serif at least tries to accommodate for this Windows accessibility feature as best as possible.  It would be unreasonable to expect you to support any size font, however perhaps you could test up to maybe 125% text scaling?

I'd be happy with a 3/4 levels thumbnail (eg. small, medium, large... ).
The hover thing seems to me a bit redundant... But it is only my opinion...
