Frank Jonen got a reaction from ashf in Node-based editor
I don't recall who it was, but someone from the Affinity team once posted here that under the hood it's a node-based architecture that is exposed to the user as a layer stack.
A Compositing Persona would be amazing and is definitely possible but I don't really have high hopes for that. At least not near-term. It would be great to have it with the 3D texture map preview and a few more generative nodes to create surface details. Maybe that could be a step towards getting nodes.

My guess is that co-existing layer system and node system that's interchangeable might be difficult since they are different architecture.
Practical implementation would be that each layer has own nodes so layers and nodes can co-exist without changing current architecture.
Like Filter Forge plugin has its own node system.

369/5000 I don't know if this option is currently under development, but in my opinion it would be very useful to have a node-based editor as an option to the layer system (Have both options). Because I work with 32 bit exr files to be able to generate multipass compositing and it would be very useful to speed up the workflow without having to copy the same information to other layers. Thank you. -

YES! Could you add the Document Array?? Left side is A document,Right side is B document?Always we need to reference some picture ,this array is very useful..
And Could you add the fill short key backcolor(ALT+BACKSPACE) and forecolor (CTRL+BACKSPACE),It`s let Painter workflow be very quickly!!!Thank you!: )!

Frank Jonen got a reaction from Chris B in Stop enforcing Bilinear filtering
Here's a quick way in Photo to illustrate the problem in a very binary way.
The clean looking one is NN.
What you're looking at is a single pixel column selected on the artboard edge. When that pixel column is filled, it automatically blurs and bleeds into adjacent colours. Yes, feathering and anti-aliasing are off.
This is not a vector shape but a pure pixel marquee.
The bug is only in Photo. In Designer the setting sticks until I reboot the system. In Photo it's until I restart the app.

Frank Jonen got a reaction from Chris B in Stop enforcing Bilinear filtering
You keep bringing that "feature" back for some reason. Bilinear just means I get inaccurate rendering towards object edges and have no idea what the alignments are based on as they constantly change.
I now have to turn it off for each session. I'm not allowed to have it set permanently.

So you can scale it without rendering quality issues. A motion graphics tool can use temporal anti-aliasing more efficiently when it can use paths to generate its own pixels the way it likes to process them. In Nuke for example you can get super sharp logos if you create a font with the base shapes and colour them in-app once compiled to match. In general, rastering to need vs pixel remapping is very different when it comes to render. Also most motion graphics apps will let you manipulate the vector shapes once imported.

They weren’t first. Adobe bought Aldus (85% of Adobe’s offering) and aqui-hired Thomas Knoll (Photoshop).

Frank Jonen got a reaction from Ronbo in How to rotate canvas in Affinity Photo on desctop PC
Yeah the canvas rotation bug doesn't ever seem to get fixed. It's highly annoying that on a normal working setup you're crippled with step-rotation. Why it doesn't have a key combo that you can hold while dragging to rotate is beyond me.

Frank Jonen got a reaction from mdriftmeyer in Period Leader Filled Tabs look like someone's losing at Tetris
Yeeeah… somewhat
Here's some inspiration from a working document I'm on at the moment. Note that I've adjusted the placements to skip the periods that would otherwise end up too close to the terminal characters (see 12.1 and 12.2 line). There's a tolerance of course, otherwise things like 12.1.2 would look stray. Leaders here are calculated from the logical outside in. That way it doesn't matter on which side I have them, they're always correct. In edge-cases you have to evaluate it more than once, but in this example it was a single pass.

Frank Jonen got a reaction from mdriftmeyer in Period Leader Filled Tabs look like someone's losing at Tetris
We read from left to right. In RTL language settings the leader would start at the right. In either case it always starts aligned with the logical outside. Otherwise it would look quite rubbish. That's why nobody does it from the inside out. You'd get this ragged edge on the logical outside instead of a clean line. Currently I typeset it in LaTeX where it is done correctly, render to outlines (since Affinity still can't import PDFs correctly) and place it where I need it.
As for the extra spacing: In LaTex my function adds either an x-width, a half-space or an en-space depending on whether the first glyph has an apex going into a vertex, a straight vertical line, an overhang arm or a vertex going down into a serif. That's in addition to the regular micro-typography settings. Something like that would be great to have in Affinity. It'd be rather simple (from a UI POV) to handle that in the Optical Alignment panel with a control character like [leader]. That way users could easily control the spacing in a familiar UI that can be stored in a Text Style.

Frank Jonen reacted to Chris B in ETA on fixing the snapping issues in Export Persona?
Hi Frank,
We do not provide an ETA for bug fixes or improvements. All we can do until the fix makes it into a release is bump the issue and update the report with any new info. Sorry.

Frank Jonen reacted to IPv6 in Incorrect rasterization
no, thank you, i need normal rasterization to work normaly.
In my case fill layers are usually hidden deep in nested groups with several effects. So rasterizing such group gives partially broken image because of this bug - some effects in groups with fills completely lost over missed part of the document

Frank Jonen reacted to redline.wolfgang in DXF or DWG file import in Affinity Designer
First, Affinity Designer is beautiful and extremely efficient tool. I like it!
I am doing design and artwork for front panels / operating panels of electric devices and machines. The drawings are available in DXF and / or DWG from Autocad (trademark). What would really speed up my workflow is the option to *import* DXF or DWG files.
Considering that these files can carry very complex information it would be sufficient to be able import only a single layer file or a single layer of such a file. This contains all mechanical data so I can be sure that the artwork will match the target device.
Adobe Illustrator has this feature.
Export of DXF / DWG files is actually not required for this kind of work.

Frank Jonen reacted to Michael McGinnis in DXF or DWG file import in Affinity Designer
Hello,
I purchased Affinity Designer for two specific purposes: one, to work with DXF files produced in ANSYS SpaceClaim, which can then be sent to all manner of cutters (laser, waterjet, CNC routers); and two, to repair DXF files needed for copyright and patent applications. My old version of illustrator did this, though poorly, which is why I do not wish to use it any longer. Unfortunately, Designer doesn't do this at all. I am posting here just to reinforce others' requests that DXF support be added to Affinity Designer.

Frank Jonen reacted to MikeW in PDF-Export is broken
I really wish you would insist on private communication and/or private links when asking for fonts, commercial design assets, etc.
What is happening all too often is illegal public transfer of commercial goods. I don't think y'all would appreciate someone posting links to cracked Affinity software.

Frank Jonen got a reaction from Sean P in Print problems
Look at Rango it says Documento completo. What you want is to select each artboard separately and print that one at a time.
To expedite the process, export to PDF and Print from Preview.app. There you can just print all pages. When you select the whole document it tries to fit all artboards into one view, which makes zero sense but that's the way it works.

You can't change the spacing between the periods, and still have the periods in different entries line up. The first period needs to be in a fixed position, and all the following ones. And then you need to adjust the spacing betwen the last period and the word.

Frank Jonen reacted to CartoonMike in Is there a Resource Manager in Designer 1.7?
The fact that the files are Embedded and not linked, forces me to repeat the Place command for each page. for a 32 page comic, that's a bit of effort that is caused by the arbitrary elimination of Linking to files. Linking allows the source file to be changed (or replaced if the exact same file name is used) and that change is propagated to the doc that is linked to the file.
In essence, just embedding the file is costing me anywhere between 2-3 hours of work per 32pg comic. I didn't know the replace image was a trick, so I didn't mention it. To be fair, All affinity apps have had so many changes, my head is spinning and I don't know how to work around this embbeding thing. So this is me throwing up my hands and I'm just going to work through this and maybe by July, I'll have figured out how to use AD/APub for comics or just revert to using Comic Life (which is a good app), which can export a ePub, PDF and raster formats (JPG, PNG and/or TIFF).

Frank Jonen reacted to walt.farrell in Is there a Resource Manager in Designer 1.7?
At some point we'll have the Photo and Designer Personas active in Publisher. That should reduce the need for opening .afpub documents in Photo or Designer, as the Publisher Personas will provide some of the Photo/Designer capabilities. The only question at this point is which of the stand-alone application functions will be supported in the Personas.
Also, as discussed in other topics, there are issues right now with opening multi-page Publisher files in Photo or Designer anyway, as both applications lack any mechanism for selecting which page to work on. I'm hopeful that the Publisher Personas will also help deal with that, when they're available. Note: A page selector is available if one Places a multi-page Publisher file into a Designer or Photo document; it's only Opening them that is a problem at the moment.
