Pierrick got a reaction from MoonaticDestiny in Swipe up or down on the Layers Studio icon to quickly reorder layers
A swipe up or down on the Layers Studio Icon to reorder the selected layer(s) would be incredibly useful.

Pierrick reacted to LionelD in WHAT IS THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM DOING?
I’m afraid I have to agree with the concerns posted above. There is, at the very least, the appearance of failure to communicate with Serif’s user base. I’ve learned that when I fail to communicate, I get results I don’t want.
Right now I have documented issues with Designer on both MacBook and iPad, and I can tell from forum posts I’m not the only one.
Please Serif, fix the bugs, and communicate some sort of priority ranking for those you do decide to fix.
Regards

Pierrick reacted to DM1 in WHAT IS THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM DOING?
I think it’s a fair question. What are the developers doing? Do they not have a team dedicated to the iOS apps?
We have many bugs being reported again and again. Often the same bug reported multiple times because there is no user accessible concise numbered list of reported bugs. Many reports are 'bumped' by Mods to try and get some action going with developers. Again no feedback to indicate bumping has actually resulted in the bug getting some attention.
There does not 'appear' to be a 'process' for prioritising action to fix reported bugs. I’m guessing that there must be some sort of process, but if so it lacks communication of progress to end users and, I suspect mods are just as in the dark as us when it comes to what is being fixed.
Updates and releases don’t provide a full list of fixes either. Worse still, some updates reintroduce previously 'fixed' bugs.
From a users perspective, many basic feature requests made over the past few years continue to be completely ignored.
I’d say 'all in all, development for iOS has always appeared to be a bit of a dogs breakfast', and yes, that might indeed be considered ranting 😂.

Pierrick got a reaction from Michael Bobarev in time-lapse making-of video's of directly in Affinity.
Agree. The unlimited history is fantastic for making offs.
Another way to do it:
1/ Quicktime > New Screen Recording
2/ Go to the beginning of your history
3/ Hold ⇧⌘Z all the way back.
Voilà! Direct to video.

Pierrick reacted to nwhit in very slow since update to 1.7.0
As per my other post on the newest beta speed improvements, with the new 1.7.2 betas, my speed is massively faster than 1.6.x or 1.7.1. And that's processing 24MP RAW 3-bracket HDR merging, tone mapping, plus other touch-up tools, then custom export.
High Sierra, iMac 2017 i5, Radeon Pro 580 8192 MB, Metal display and compute.
Cleared up the slowness with the 1.7.2 betas and made it significantly faster than 1.6.7. In fact, too fast for me to even get some coffee drinking done while I work! (I typically do several hundred of these RAW develop/merge/tone map/touch up/exports a day, so am very familiar with typical speeds.)

With enabled 'Metal Compute' I get the worst performance on my system. The whole software gets massive slowdowns. Terrible stutters in zooming and moving a picture and in rendering and set live-effects.
If I deactivate it, it makes no matter if I choose Metal or OpenGL, both runs relativly smooth, whitout stuttering and slowdowns.
I hoped that 1.7 gets a performance boost, but sadly not on my system.

NIce one.
I think you could get a better zoom-out animation, centered on your character, by going Z then ALT-click. Or even Z and drag-right.

Pierrick reacted to MattP in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.6 - Beta 12)
Status: Beta Release
Purpose: New features, fixes
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer
Mac App Store: Not Submitted
Download: Here
This beta version represents a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.
To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.
Fixes/Improvements:
Tweaked OpenGL to improve experience with artboard documents (still haven't added back the old OpenGL as an option yet, sorry) Fix for not being able to Command+Click into compound objects SVG CDATA import fix Fix for Text clipping incorrectly when used with a Live effect and output to PDF Small light-UI tweaks Fix for copy/paste of pixel areas accidentally appearing at the top-left of the original pixel data Fix for 'Direction' brush dynamic not working as expected Miscellaneous other fixes and tweaks -

Pierrick got a reaction from The Bearded Bird in Collages
Following up with some excerpts of my collage work.
It might be more abstract than the rest of this thread I'm afraid. Glad to share here.
This one is enroute to screenprinting.

Hi guys,
Illustration from a summer screenprint serie. Half Affinity Designer, half Photo.
The capture was made afterward, rolling the saved history backward (neat function!).
Best,

+1 to paste in place.
The most useful feature when it comes to UI design, where repetition is key.

Symbols and constraints are great, but now there's a new contender for my favorite 1.5 feature. :D Thanks so much for including this!

Pierrick reacted to HYR in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.5 - Beta 14)
Thanks Affinity Folks for all of your hard work. I'm looking forward to the new version. But, I'm still hoping for one feature in particular. I'd love it if that when you select a layer on the artboard/document that it would display the same layer in the layers panel. So that means scroll to the right position and expand any groups to show me the layer I selected.
Sketch does this very well and it's such a time saver. Having to go and find a layer I'm working on slows work down. And if you don't want it to be the default behavior, perhaps adding it as a preference to make it the default? Any chance of this making into the 1.5 release? Thanks.
Note: the functionality exists in the context menu "Find in Layers Panel"... I just want it as the default behavior (or a way to make it the default behavior).

Pierrick reacted to jeff in Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.5 - Beta 12)
Yes, this would be most helpful. I mentioned a similar request here. But it was right at the end of the previous beta and might be too late for consideration. Again the benefit is substantial and I'm surprised others aren't clamoring for it.
Please consider adding this as a feature.
Thanks.

One have to dig into the layers panel to find the selected one, or right-click 'Reveal in layers panel' to make it show up. Why not automatizing it! Manipulations in the layers panel can be frequent. It would be a huge time saver.
