NathanC got a reaction from Caramel in Publisher - changing pages in embedded layer file doesn't change the viewed page in main project
Thanks for sending the file over, i'm also observing this page view render issue when changing the zoom level, unusually it doesn't happen when the file is linked, only as an embedded resource. I'll log this with the developers for further investigation.

    Hi @ecureuil,
Under Mac System Settings -> Extensions -> Sharing ensure 'Add to Photos' is enabled and then check the menu in Photo again.

NathanC got a reaction from Onett_AC in Can I stop the "fit to screen" feature when changing pages in publisher
    Welcome to the forums @Onett_AC,
Double clicking to select a page will automatically move the view to the selected page and fit the full page on your app window size on screen. As far as I'm aware there isn't a way to change it to retain your current zoom level or a pre-defined value when double clicking a page, you'd need to set this manually, for example using the CTRL + 1 shortcut to set the zoom level to 100% after selecting the page.

NathanC got a reaction from Hangman in Designer Persona in Publisher Shows Document Setup and Spread Setup
    Hi @Hangman,
Good spot, I've logged this with the developers for correction.
I think 'Spread Properties' is it's own separate dialog and should remain as such when accessed from the pages panel. It gives specific config settings for amending the properties of the spread, whereas Document setup contains tabs relevant to the entire document scope such as colour space, model etc. that are not necessarily relevant to the selected spread(s) I've chosen to amend.

NathanC reacted to GarryP in Editing only the background, not the subject
    Welcome to the forums @Nickmoore
Two basic ways, amongst many, to do what I think you want to do are to either:
    1. Select the background from the image and then create an Adjustment Layer while the selection is active.
    2. Select the foreground, then invert the selection, and then create an Adjustment Layer while the selection is active.
If you create an Adjustment Layer while there is an active pixel selection then the selection automatically acts as a Mask for the Adjustment. You can later paint directly onto the Adjustment Layer to refine what the Adjustment applies to.
I’ve attached a short video showing method 2 being used (quickly and crudely).
The best method (which might not be listed above) will probably depend on the image you have. If you can share that then you might get help that better suits your image.

NathanC got a reaction from pioneer in Hardware acceleration
    Hi @pioneer,
The setting essentially offloads certain tasks from the CPU onto the GPU, which normally results in a performance boost. It's primarily beneficial in raster based tasks and workflows, and I normally see the benefit when using Live filters. The help guide below gives a good general overview.
    https://affinity.help/photo2/English.lproj/pages/Extras/hardwareAcceleration.html
As far as I'm aware there isn't a need to make a specific program profile in the Nvidia 3D settings panel for the apps, let it just use the Global settings.

    There are multiple possible causes:
keyboard shortcuts like modifier keys can toggle this clicking on the selection mode switches (add, subtract etc) Inverting selection by menu or keyboard other apps may steal focus temporarily, disrupting the selection process. Come on. The recording is to document what user input triggers the observed issue, not to blame the user. If you find an issue, and you are the only person on earth who observe this specific issue, it is in your interest do provide all relevant details allowing others, specifically moderators and developers to reproduce the issue. Just run the screen recording always. If bug does not occur, just delete the recording to save space.

NathanC reacted to MikeTO in Latin Spellchecker problems...
I thought la_VA is what most people used but I didn't know that the region code was optional so we can actually name them la.dic and la.aff which avoids (Vatican City) appearing in the menu. Given that Affinity bundles the Latin hyphenation dictionary as hyph_la.dic I should probably change my naming recommendation to omit _VA.

NathanC got a reaction from David Battistella in Latin Spellchecker problems...
    Hey @David Battistella,
I'm assuming that you've sourced the Latin dictionary files extracted from the .OXT file provided by David in the thread below since you posted there?
I opted to rename the files to 'la_VA.dic' and 'la_VA.aff' based on the advice of MikeTO and then put them in them both in the root of the ~/Library/Spelling/ folder instead of putting them inside another subfolder.

Once I did this I restarted the app, checked back in the Language section of the character panel and I was able to change the spelling language to 'Latin (Vatican City)'. For me it was listed at the very bottom of the spelling dropdown list.

NathanC got a reaction from Mr. Doodlezz in Can't Set Distance with Key Object in Latest Version
    Hi @Mr. Doodlezz,
This missing functionality to turn off 'auto distribute' and set a user defined distance when considering a key object is currently logged internally so i've bumped it with your report. Also many thanks for the recording as i've added this on since you've clearly demonstrated it was possible in 2.3.1 so i've added this info onto the internal report. I can't really say why this was changed in 2.4.X but hopefully we'll see it added back in.

NathanC reacted to Marco Soijer in Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 MacOS hang/unable to select or edit text frames in existing file
    Dear Nathan,
Indeed: renaming the logo file lets me open and edit the template and the original documents that are based on it with no problem. I can also re-link the logo file, save the afdesign document, and open and work on it afterwards.
Thanks for suggesting this, as it may provide a work-around for cases that may come up in the future. It is not something I would ever have thought of, as the afdesign file exists, can be worked on, and the logo is displayed on the page on Publisher, even if the app hangs upon it.
In case it may help your development team to see whether the problem has something to do with the contents of the logo file, I just dropped the afdesign file into the same dropbox where I sent the problematic templates (by re-creating the original path, you may even be able to reproduce the problem). The re-name and re-link solution probably means that something was wrong with the link in the afdesign file, though.
    Thanks again,
    Marco

NathanC reacted to Udo B. in Affinity-Photo 2.4.1 - Performance problems under Sonoma 14.4.1 - possible malfunction of the metal interface
    Hello again,
after I took over my previous settings, the same problem occurs again - the performance is poor and the CPU utilisation is high!
But - the following steps will probably lead us to the solution of the problem
    1) Start Affinity Photo
    2) Opening my .aphoto file -> Performance is bad
    3) Switch to the 'Info' panel and then back to another panel of the same panel group, so that the 'Info' panel is in the background and no longer visible (except for the tab) -> Performance is good again
    4) Re-activate the panel 'Info' -> Performance is bad
    5) Activating another panel of the same panel group -> good performance again
    6) Quit Affinity Photo (with a non-active panel 'Info')
    7) Restart Affinity Photo
😎 The performance is bad, even though the "Info" panel is not in the foreground
    9) Only after switching to the 'Info' panel and back the performance is high again!
The steps described can also be seen in the attached video
A complete deactivation of the 'Info' panel via studio also leads to normal performance!
What is your opinion on this?
The behaviour is identical in AF 2.4.1 and 2.4.2!

NathanC got a reaction from Udo B. in Affinity-Photo 2.4.1 - Performance problems under Sonoma 14.4.1 - possible malfunction of the metal interface
Good to hear that it works on the new user, however unfortunately local user account issues can be quite difficult to identify, as there could be a problem with the mac user account itself if there's no difference in terms of the active and background programs running.
The Affinity apps store the app preferences and user settings in the local user library folder, so by creating a new user these files are re-created. You could try deleting these files + folder on your original user to reset the apps, but there's no guarantee this will work but it will eliminate the possibility of the problem relating to the local app files, you can get to these folders via spotlight search (CMD + Space)
~/Library/Group Containers/ delete or rename the '6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs’ folder.
~/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto2/Data/Library/Preferences/ delete or rename the com.seriflabs.affinityphoto2.plist file.
~/library/application support/ delete or rename the 'Affinity Photo 2' folder.

NathanC got a reaction from Bartek in Gradient map does not affect color
    Hi @Bartek,
To me this looks like a bug, particularly as setting the left node K100 only and the other to 4C black does show a colour gradient on the gradient map dialog, and there is a somewhat similar issue logged with the CMYK sliders failing to convert to RGB correctly. I'll log this with the developers for further investigation and confirmation.

NathanC got a reaction from Hangman in Exposure adjustment + luminosity range mask
Thanks @Hangman I had noticed that the adjustment had no value set, but I had overlooked preview being set in the mask dialog on OP's screenshot which you've pointed out.
Yes, as far as i'm aware that's the expected behaviour, 'Preview' shows a greyscale preview of what's being masked, and since the adjustment is having no effect on the image, the luminosity mask nested to the adjustment also has no effect and so the preview of what's being masked is empty.

NathanC got a reaction from PaulEC in Bug(s) with Perspective Tool
    Hi @PaulEC,
Thanks for reporting, it looks like the options for Flip Horizontal/Vertical are there, but the icons are missing (same in both dark mode and light mode UI). I found this by hovering my cursor to the right of the rotate anticlockwise icon, which prompted the Flip tooltips that then worked when clicked, i've now logged this.
I think this may be a mistake in the help documentation specifically for the Perspective Tool, as the perspective live filter does not list this as a default option so I'll let the docs team know and confirm.
