I'm just realizing the even the current brush preview that is less than optimal only shows when I use the mouse, if I use my stylus the brush preview disappears instantly, so that means the devs made the app to be very optimized for ipad, however this left any desktop user (or an user that needs precision in the ipad) without options and even the current options don't work, ill check every one once in a while to see if this gets implemented one day, I have a feel this will not happen this year, nor the next, I dare Serif to prove me wrong, I'm saddened that I cant use the app with all the speed improvements it has because of this.

Okay of all the places, I found a perfectly-working Voronoi Diagram Generator that was built into Inkscape. Open source software never ceases to amaze me.

This is exactly the result I was looking for. Thanks for all the input everyone!

Finally someone hit the nail on the head. I agree with you. I also fell into this trap, when moving from Adobe to Affinity I was under the assumption it was advertised as purchase once and use and get updated forever. If Affinity knew for a fact, which they would of that UPGRADES are not classified as UPDATES, then it should have been made very clear of this fact at the time of purchase. It is misleading and fails to give CLARITY.
Tactics like these will only lead to a bad reputation for the company the way I see it. I am not saying I do not want to pay for the upgrade, I probabaly will, but not without a bad taste in my mouth I never had before.
    Just saying...

I would also very much like to know when/if this will happen. I've wanted this feature since I bought my iPad.

I just signed up to say that this basic feature needs to be implemented. Retouching photos is hell without the cursor. I just bought Affinity and it is kinda useless for me without this feature.

Absolutely agree on every point. For me, all Affinity need do is clone CSP's brush dialogue and we would be there so everyone is happy, but even after years we are still no closer. I genuinely do not know how anyone approaches painting/sketching in AD/AP with such fundamental issues (the brush 'resize and unhighlight the brush you are using' is another corker) and it is incredibly frustrating, as is the basic silence from Affinity. This, apparently, is their modus operandi and to some extent understandable - no developer has the time to comment on every feature request/bug report - but after all these years it starts to feel a lot like arrogance.
Of course, over time CSP have ramped up their own vector tools and you feel they could make serious inroads into this market if they had a mind, just as they have started to mop up on PS's space for illustration now. I can't imagine Procreate aren't looking at the vector space too.
Anyway, all very interesting - I don't use an iPad and your comments have answered some questions I've had there. The most galling thing around Affinity is their focus on everything else but this, from focus on Publisher to their 600k object layers... effectively absolutely anything rather than address very legitimate feature requests going back to 2016 or so.

Are you referring to the iPad version, Renderluz? Sadly (within Windows at any rate) the accursed 'outline' is very much a permanent issue, as the (many) comments above attest, going back years and years. Just a sad joke now.

+1 to this topic please. The ability to have a brush preview would be invaluable. I appreciate some might want it so a function to toggle it on and off would be superb. Having read the comments above it is clear that once upon a time this was implemented, so it should be a relatively small thing to re-implement assuming good source code control has been used ;o)

    Hello there,
I think it would be great if the cursor and/or brush imprint could have options to be toggled off and both be set to the size at maximum pressure and work with barrel rotation.

In the attached video (photoshop cs 6 on right and affinity photo 1.9.2.1035 on left) you can see the brush imprint works fine with pen rotation but the cursor outline doesn't rotate and constantly pops back to a circle shape.  This is distracting.

I think when using the brush tool, you just need to know what the shape of the brush tip is and its exact size at full pressure.

I think the cursor outline is more useful (ala photoshop on the right) as you can see through it better than the dark shape of the brush tip.

Hope this can be considered, Thank you!

This functionality would most likely be a toggle, so if you don’t want it, you don’t have to use it. Many, many others do want this.

Renderluz reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Designer for Windows - 1.8.5
We are pleased to announce an update for the Windows release of Affinity Designer, version 1.8.5
    Changes in this Build
The changes in Affinity Designer for Windows 1.8.5 (over the last release Affinity Designer for Windows 1.8.4) are as follows:
    Fixes & Improvements:
Fixed many tablet input problems (by reverting the default input method to be Low Precision mode, the same as in 1.8.3).  Added tablet input preference (in Tools section) to opt-in to High Precision mode, or Windows Ink mode
(NOTE: previous command line options --legacy-wintab and --disable-wintab are now ignored). Fixed cursor disappearing following keyboard shortcuts that display dialogs, while using a brush tool. Earlier changes and fixes in 1.8 since 1.7 (including the new 1.8 features) are listed in some detail in the 1.8.0 , 1.8.2 and 1.8.3 update announcements.

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Designer).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Designer for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

Nobody ever needed something similar? Lately I've been creating some animations (exporting up to hundred files, I'm actually limited as after that it become a pain to get around with the different layout) and I really had a hard time when I wanted to add a new artboard in the middle and keep continuity in the order of my exported files. I had three solutions:
    - create a new "artboard 97" and then transfer the content of each board to the next one such as artboard(n) to artboard(n+1) in order to add me new content in "artboard 53"
    - at the end of the project selecting and grouping all the contents on by one and then creat slices from these groups which will be numbered on the order of their position.
    - otherwise, rename my artboard one by one with numbers
In any case, any of this solution is very laborious and that is why I would really like the be able the rename artboard or object by batch. Or at least when renaming an object, being able to rename the following one by pressing tab would already be amazing (as it works in windows explorer, sorry, not familiar with the finder of MAC OS). I put it in bold cause this simple thing would really save me time on all my project as I always spend so much time renaming objects.

    Hi everyone,
I'm just new to Affinity Designer and I am wondering if there is an ability to create macros (or actions as Adobe calls them)? I rely on these heavily in Photoshop and Ilustrator to speed up my workflow so not having them in Designer will really slow me down.
Surely I can't be the only person to use these, but from looking around the forums and the web it seems Designer doesn't have them?
Wanted to double check I hadn't missed something before adding this to the feature request.
    Thanks heaps!

Only Affinity Photo has Macros at the moment, and they are not as powerful as Illustrators or Photoshops actions. I hope they will add them in the future.

I'm just new to Affinity Designer and so far loving it, but I was really surprised today to discover there is no capability for setting up macros to speed up the processes I use. It's a feature I rely heavily on in Adobe.
Would love to see this in a future update as I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses macros to speed up workflow.

    Hello,
I would like like to suggest a feature, if i may?
I am a Production Graphic Artist. I purchased your software to save money and be able to still design. The only issue is, a good portion of designers aren't just illustration / concept artists. Some of us work in Graphic Production redrawing existing artwork and have turn around times within 24/48 hours industry wide. This is where Macros cut down on designing to meet that turn around time.
Will Affinity Designer have this feature just as Affinity Photo does?

Is there anyway to record/ write macros for Affinity Designer? I am creating a trading card game and it would be great if I could write a script to change the values on the card instantly, instead of the slow manual process.

I was hoping I could write something where I input; name, damage value, life value, etc. then run the macro and the text updates.

    Does anything like this exist?

    thank you!
